Marjorie wrapped herself in a thin down jacket. The bus was old, the heater didn't work well, it was freezing outside, and it was freezing inside.
There were not many passengers now; The morning rush hour had already passed, and the evening rush was still far away.
In the front two seats sat two elderly women, talking quietly and looking out the windows. In the center of the bus, a young mother was sitting with a baby in her arms. The boy was wrapped up like a cabbage due to the freezing weather. Marjorie looked sympathetically at the woman with her baby. They probably couldn't afford a cab, so they had to take a cold bus on this frosty day.
In the back of the bus, there was a strange passenger, a man about 35 years old, tall and handsome. He wore a sheepskin coat made of soft leather, branded winter sneakers, and leather gloves.
Such people usually went in luxury cars, not old, rumbling buses.
Marjorie discreetly observed the unusual passenger. He sat by the window, looking thoughtful. Sometimes he pulled out an expensive phone of the latest model from his pocket to answer messages.
He was handsome, with correct facial features, intelligent dark eyes, and an athletic figure. From the looks of it, this man was doing quite well in life. But his eyes were sad.
Maybe those who say that there is no happiness in money are right. Maybe the rich do cry.
Marjorie sighed, thinking about her own debts. 'It is time to pay the rent. Cody needs new boots. And it would be good to repay the money to the neighbor. She says she doesn't care, but it still feels inconvenient.
The paycheck is tomorrow. Yes, I'd like to go to the movies with my son, buy him new jeans, and get myself a dress. But the salary covers only my basics.'
Luckily, Marjorie had an unofficial part-time job. She once studied to be a nurse. She never finished medical school, but she learned how to give injections, which turned out to be a critical skill.
Everyone in the building where Marjorie had been renting an apartment for many years was aware of it. If anything, they could always turn to her for help for a small fee.
Marjorie was tired, but she didn't complain about life and didn't refuse anyone. She really needed the money; she was almost single-handedly supporting Cody.
