  • Thanks so much to everybody who has either left a comment for this Q&A or sent me a DM privately on Instagram. In this video my best friend Brian and I chat about dating, love, how to deal with being a shy introvert and having panic attacks or anxiety in social situations, how to move to Italy or to a foreign country and live alone or travel alone, the truth about making videos or vlogs or starting a CZcams channel, my favourite films and more. Part 2 will be out very very soon. We couldn't fit all your questions into one video! WE LOVE YOU so much. Thank you for your support!

Kylie, you have passion and wisdom beyond your years. You're one of the few true beauties of the world (both inside and out). I look forward to your videos and have no problem waiting for them. You deliver such high quality videos. You are very lucky to have a friend like Brian.

Lol you guys are so bubbly and positive. Your channel is my go-to place for when I feel hopeless. I've never gotten the ability to travel unfortunately but it's a dream and goal I'm working towards and your content and wonderful spirit always help me get right back on track and inspire me to keep fighting. I personally love wandering alone, you attract so many wonderful people from old people at a bar who tells you their life story over a couple drinks to people you meet at a beach and have a long conversation with while listening to music. Wandering alone is truly the best thing for an introvert and it has taught me the kindness of strangers and the beauty of people in general as you can sympathize with every person around you not knowing who will be involved in the next beautiful moment in your life.

Kylie! Thank you and Brian for sharing:) I had a similar experience moving to France at 21 during Uni and calling my mom after 6 months sobbing uncontrollably that I needed to come home, in large part due to the social anxiety and not fitting in to the local culture. Ever since I have had a crippling fear of failure and disappointment that I wasn't as adventurous or adaptable as I had aspired. That was two years ago and that fear of failure has thankfully begun to turn into a fear of NOT TRYing, trying again to live as an expat or going after my dream job or just creating a meaningful life for myself. I just wanted to tell you that your tenacity and dedication to keep going has truly been such an inspiration. Never change

Oh my God, I am in one of Kylie's videos! 😍 Thank you so much for giving me that advice! I've been in the USA for over three weeks now and so far everything is great! It's true that you just need to face your fears and throw yourself in there. I know that I'll probably also be confronted with difficult situations or homesickness in the future, but I realized now that this is how life works - it's like a rollercoaster. Even just being here for a couple of weeks made me grow so much. Thank you again!
Lots of love from my new second home! 🇺🇸

I support your patreon because I believe in what you're doing. Keep it up!!! The cat watching the two of you dance at the end cracked me up! Excited for part 2!

Having lived in Milan, Italy for let's say, decades... Oh how I can associate w everything you present... Love your vlog every time but it hasn't appeared on my page, yet, I've been a subs. Only yesterday this very vlog appeared. Always picturesque, poetic, pure depiction of Italy. Continued enjoyment on "la dolce vita" of yours. Sincerely, a widow of an Italian husband whom I lost in 2014 and now I'm living back in Indonesia, my wonderful country too, and happy about it. Italy has been a big chapter of my life, good or bad.

I loved this video-- thank you for being so vulnerable and honest! I really like the way Brian explained about taking on the energy of the people you are around. I always very much feel others' emotions, and I've never really understood why so this is a great way of thinking of it for me. Also the bit about traveling alone really inspires me! I've traveled quite a bit but never by myself, and I think I have a lot to learn about myself in doing so-- preferably in Italy! Can't wait for part 2!

the part where you said "it's scarier to consider staying in my hometown my whole life" really struck a chord with me. I'm from a tiny town in California and I want nothing more than to just get out and see the world. I'm going to a community college in my tiny town and am thinking of transferring to the closest university to save money so I can see the world after I graduate. But that's three years away and I am absolutely terrified that I'm going to get stuck here and not be able to get away. I love your videos by the way, I think they are so beautifully made and the way you talk is so comforting. Keep up the amazing work!!

Smit Kalkani thank you - your compassion for me and support of my work always amazes me. I read your DMs and they give me tremendous hope that kind unselfish people exist in the world. You needn’t have deleted your question. I think unfortunately, there is some social class distinction in Italy as there is in most countries in the world. I will say that Italians, however, have this daily habitual contact with others more than most privileged countries. At least in Rome, I’ve found most businessmen will greet and chat with a barista, a florist or anyone in a position that pays far less because being social and joking or chatting is very much a part of their culture. I think hot climates also tend to make people open up and live in a slightly more informal way. I hope this gives you some insight. 💕💕💕🙏🙏🙏🙏

EVERYONE SHOULD TRAVEL ALONE FOR A MINIMUM THREE MONTH PERIOD (You will learn to be more resilient, overcome challenges, and be a better YOU for it.)
It is a wonderful learning experience.
REMEMBER - MOST PEOPLE ARE KIND - AND EVERYONE UNDERSTAND THE LANGUAGE OF HELPING. (You'll be surprised by this.)
The overwhelming thing you'll find, is that we all just look a little bit different, do things different and speak a bit differently - but ALL OF US want the same things out of life.
EVERYTHING YOU WANT IS OUT THERE - JUST GO AND EARN IT!

I’m a student living in Japan right now, I’m 27 and I’ve never lived in my own until I moved to Japan so I experience homesickness a lot more often than most so I try to call home a lot more often but there’s a lot of embarrassing moments where I just start crying on the train home from work and I had my first panic attack 5 months ago. I have always struggled with anxiety but moving abroad has definitely made it worse and I am still learning how to deal with it. How do you and Brian handle your anxiety everyday? Are there things you do in the morning or night to calm the morning anxiety and calm your mind at night to sleep to help you?

    • @KylieFlavell
      @KylieFlavell  Před 6 lety +3

Jackson Carine Hey beautiful! So I have lived in Asian and European countries and I have to say that while I adore Japan, it is a lot more challenging with the alienation as an expat than Italy. That said, my time living alone in Japan gave me more strength and courage than any other experience overseas. I was in the south where not many people speak English. In my first months in a county I try to only socialise with locals so that I can improve my language skills and understand their culture but then I realised I was often being too tough on myself and the first time I found a fellow expat in Japan and we just sat and ate onigiri and laughed it struck me that I had been in desperate need of confirmation that what I was feeling was not me being weak or crazy - it was what many other expats in Japan were going through and crying over too! Sometimes you can’t even talk to family or friends back home because they can’t truly understand the little moments of stress or alienation (or even triumph when you manage to assimilate in some small way) like a fellow expat. I have always found great comfort and strength in reading books by expats who have had my same experience and come out the other side once they’ve adjusted to life in that country. I’m trying to think of what I read back in Japan. 🤔 Another thing that helped was tutoring local people because it’s a way to form a friendship with people one on one and learn about them slowly and also force yourself out of the house when you just feel like curling up and watching a film (or CZcams) and not facing the world. I also kept a journal. It helped me clarify my thoughts and fears and then when a month had passed and I felt despairing and assumed my situation was not evolving at all, I could look back and realise that actually, I was making progress emotionally and culturally without even noticing it.

Kylie Flavell yea I have been studying Japanese for about 5 years so assimilation hasn’t been a problem for but definitely feeling like I’ve progressed or grown in anyway it just feels like every spiraled out of control and got worse emotionally for me but thank you very much I’ll try journaling grazie 🙏🏽

Jackson Carine I totally understand. I spoke Japanese and studied it for many years and locals were always so kind to me but they say that there is a very unique type of alienation that one experiences in Japan - I almost feel like it makes those of us who have really lived there a part of this private club because few can understand why it is this love/hate relationship. I have so much respect for anyone who has attempted an expat life in Japan. You should be so proud of yourself - even if you have anxious days. Penelope Green has written many books about being an expat in Italy and after it being such a dream of hers for so long, she found the reality of feeling lonely and out of place to be quite depressing. It’s important for us to read stories like this to realise we’re actually taking on quite a challenge. I would also suggest trying to perhaps form a little group - a book club even. I know it sounds cheesy or old fashioned but sometimes living in Italy or Japan or Spain I would often forget how much we need that little support network of people. Putting a little ad online somehow or at your local cafe can seem silly - you assume there is no one in your neighbourhood who you might actually want to hang out with once a week or who is feeling like you are crying on trains - BUT THERE IS!!! I cry in public often! Hahaha! 🙈 Sending you much love. If there’s anything I can do to help or any question I can answer please ask!

Kylie Flavell it’s true I definitely feel apart of a little club of a few people who have experienced what we experienced living in Japan, it a very special but can be a lonely and isolating feeling. I’m so happy to have become apart of this little community of people. Thank you inspiring to try and be better.

Hi sweetie, I would try and sit and think about what most excites you about your day, and try and do more of that. For example, when I was really down it was yoga for me. Or listening to music out on a walk or sitting in a park. I know it sounds obvious, but by doing something continuously that can only bring you joy is helpful. Of course there are times we have to work or do unjoyable things... but if you get stuck in a rut that’s what I would try. My councillor used to say it’s actually impossible to be anxious and relaxed at the same time. Because I used to say, “I go for a walk in a park, I do my breathing exercises and I’m still having panic attacks”... so I then though maybe I’m not having anxiety, I’m more sad and depressed. I hope this helps, but never be afraid to seek help if you need it. XO

Someone should invent a microphone that is also a fan at the same time; it'd be very useful in Summer nights Q&A. 😁

What you should think if i make bellini cocktail our grand mimosas, it's not grand marnier our st germain elderflower make you drunk but it's the champagne. If do not like orange juice or white peach. I can make for you a sgroppino cocktail. I use france Vodka, make homemade Lemon Granité with limoncello and mixed with vanille ice cream top it bit of Louis Roederen Brut Champagne let it in the fridge to cool down 45 minutes. Do it in champange glass and top with champangen.

Fab, honest & harsh opinion on the youtube non creative "culture" Kylie. You do have fantastic content, every video makes me wonder how many hours of thought, tweaking etc. has been put into your content.
I did want to ask, what is the equipment you're using please, camera, mic, tripod etc... by asking that, by no means am saying that it it's your equipment that results in the fantastic content. Not at all! 😊 Just respectfully want some guidance on equipment. Love your content!!!
