  • In this video I try out some new squares and a center finder from the Faithful Tools Prestige range. They are good quality and square out of the box pretty goo at this price point.

I guess the question would be if the pins on the sliding squares are made of something soft and will wear out causing it to go out of square, which is usually the common issue with the cheap sliders

Nice value indeed, paid my small starrett the big price but it was worth right from the first day
Aluminium wears pretty quickly compared to the hardened steel of a starrett, shouldn't be an issue if you don't bang them but combinations squares do get out of square by simply using it over time

Spend the extra money for good quality and true squares, I did, I got the Woodpeckers squares and yes they are expensive but very reliable like the Starrett.

When is comes to anything you should buy the best you can afford, Woodpecker and Starrett are not in everyone's budget

Faithful tools usually discounted a lot in month before Christmas at small chain and independent hardware stores in UK

I think I'll be getting that centre finder. That seems very handy bit of kit.

I have a Rabone Chesterman Try Square from my Great Gandad from around 1907 and it is still true, unbelievable.

Good looking set of squares, Faithful Tools seem to be pretty good, I have one their mini squares set and like it, the Stanley roofers / speed square I purchased was a real eye opener for me as to how bad a square could be from new. I like the 400mm combination square you have there, usually they are 300mm long. Thanks for the video.

First combo square I bought was an Empire from Home Depot. I tested it a few months after beginning, and learning squares arent always square, and to my surprise..it wasn't square. Thankfully these can be fixed by grating the internal pins ever so slightly and now it's perfectly square. Buy a better quality square than a Home Depot Special and save yourself the trouble of troubleshooting cheap garbage!

I recently bought a DeWalt speed square (new) and it was out of square by about 3/16” over 12 inches. That’s pretty awful, especially for a supposedly high end brand. I really doubt squares were so far off 50 years ago. Quality is so low nowadays.

"Prestige" range sounds about as good as LIDL's "Deluxe" brand

Well impressed with those squares John especially the centre square, never knew they existed to be honest, great wee tool that, Will purchase one of them for sure. I bought quite a few squares and woodworking equipment from Banggood.uk they to are very accurate out of the box and a fraction of the price, mine are mostly the VEIKO range.
Great vlog as usual John 👌
