  • In this video I show you how to use the RC 202 Live as a guitar player. I got this device 3 months ago and wanted to get familiar with it before doing a review. I do not sing through it, I use it for percussion and loops so I can add solos to a live performance. Enjoy!

    Thanks for this video and being a Rock guitar player. Most of the videos for the Boss RC 202 are DJ/Techno type usage. You sold me on the RC 202 & The Boss FS-6 foot switch. I going to load Metal drum loops and play 8 string Metal guitar & Bass over it just as a practice tool. The other features are there later on if I need them for more. It was a little more than I wanted to spend but in the long run it will save me money by not buying another looper if and when I outgrow a basic unit. Thanks again!

      You are welcome. I use the percussion and looping all the time when I play live, still loving this RC202! Thanks for the comment.

    Good review and insight into your setup and application.
    I have had this looper for many years and I have used it on and off over time ( I have several loop pedals!)
    What disappointed me most about this pedal is the limited number of drum patterns!
    You' d think 40 or 100 would be more appropriate for a unit like this!
    Also a firmware update that would do this?
    Anyway - great video and some nice playing.

    How to play backing tracks imported into the device?
    What I mean by that is, when you have a wav file in your computer and you copy and paste it in the boss 202, now how to get that track playing on boss 202?

    • @DestinyisCalling
      @DestinyisCalling  Před 2 lety +2

      Be sure to copy it to the location in the user manual: Writing individual WAV files from your
      computer to the RC-202’s phrase memory
      You can copy WAV files from your computer to the
      “001_1”, “001_2”-“064_1”, “064_2” folders within the
      “ROLAND”-”WAVE” folder in the BOSS_RC-202 drive (In the folder name “0XX_Y,” the XX is the phrase memory number and the Y is the track number).
      NOTE
      * Do not delete the folders inside the BOSS_RC-202
      drive unless you are performing a recovery operation.
      * You can use the following characters in file
      names. A-Z (uppercase letters), 0-9 (numerals), _
      (underscore)
      * Do not place more than one WAV file in any folder. If a
      folder already contains a WAV file, do not overwrite it.
      Write your WAV files into empty folders.
      8. When you’ve finished copying WAV files,
      disconnect the USB drive as follows.
      Windows users
      From the [ ] 0 [ ] icon in the bottom right of
      the screen, click “Eject BOSS_RC-202.”
      Mac OS users
      Drag the “BOSS_RC-202” icon to the trash
      (“Eject” icon)
      Then you will be able to play it by going to the Memory button and pulling up the Folder and track you copied the wav file to. Once loaded you will push the play button for the active track. Hope that helps. Thanks

    So it can store 2 x 8 x 8 = 128 tracks in total? Can each one of those sub-tracks be assigned the volume to dedicated faders of an external midi controller?

    • @DestinyisCalling
      @DestinyisCalling  Před 7 měsíci

      So it only has 8 channels, that have 8 memory tracks on each channel for a total of 64. The track 2 button is used to add a second instrument/vocal/drum etc. to the existing track. When it is stored/written to the assigned memory track it stores both recorded track 1 and track 2 to the same memory channel track. As far as the midi goes, I do not know the answer to that. I do not use midi with mine. Thanks

    Do you have to have a computer for this or can you do output to studio or an amp?

    • @DestinyisCalling
      @DestinyisCalling  Před 2 lety +1

      I send my output to my mixer, but you can send it to your amp as well. You would plug your guitar into the mono instrument input and then run the mono output to your amp. Thanks

    What pedal are you using to trigger the loops? :o
    Nvm you told it! It's an FS-6

    • @DestinyisCalling
      @DestinyisCalling  Před 2 lety

      Alex, I use the FS-6 Boss pedal. It cost about $10.00 more than the other pedal they had, but in my opinion, it is way better to have the pedals side by side instead of stacked like their other pedal. Thanks

    could you do us all a favor and show us how you connected your unit to amp . thx im having issues ....

    • @DestinyisCalling
      @DestinyisCalling  Před 2 lety

      Sure. You want to plug your guitar into the L/Mono inst input. Then run a cable from the L/Mono output to your amp or mixer. Then you can plug a vocal mic into the XLR input and it will run through the same output as your guitar. Be careful with the mic level volume knob, I had to turn mine down to keep it from feeding back. That should get you in business. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks

      @@DestinyisCalling Hi Michael thx for that . I'm running thru my katana thru the effects loops with tone studio and not having the best luck working out the post pre amp settings etc. Maybe ill go to your settings as a start and work from there. thx again.

    • @DestinyisCalling
      @DestinyisCalling  Před 2 lety

      @@garycrouse1918 So if you normally run your guitar directly into Tone Studio and then to your amp. You would want to try to run the output from Tone Studio into the input on the 202 and then go out from it to your amp. I have a passthrough port on my VoiceLive3 extreme that I run to my Boss 202 and then run the ouput on the 202 to my mixer. Hope that helps. Thanks

    Can you create Verse/Chorus and build full songs with this

    • @DestinyisCalling
      @DestinyisCalling  Před 2 lety

      Yes you can using the memory function. You can save the verse and then save the chorus on a different channel. Then when you are playing the verse loop you would need to press the memory button and choose the chorus channel, it will switch at the end of the measure. Since I play my guitar while using this device, I do not do that. The main way I use it is for adding the drums and as I am playing my song, I will record the music I want to play a lead over, press the play button and then play the lead break. I will record the drums onto then second track and turn it on before I play the lead. Then when I am ready to go back to the song, I press the B button on my FS-6 pedal to turn track one off. So yes you can do what you are asking, but in my opinion it is more of a function that works for be bopping or EDM type use of this device. Thanks

      @@DestinyisCalling Thanks for the reply, I primary play guitar also, no beat box or keyboard stuff, Just guitar and vocals. I'm looking at the RC202 and the RC500 trying to decide which is a better fit. I want to build complete songs live, I was also thinking about getting a MIDI foot switch, curious if it can control the memory channel instead of the the loop channel? Thanks again.

    • @DestinyisCalling
      @DestinyisCalling  Před 2 lety

      @@michaelconroy6242 If you get one of the Boss Pedals, I recommend the FS-6. There are a lot of different settings that you can use for the footswitch to control. I keep it simple with mine. The A side turns on the loop, push again to record, push again to play. Then I use the B side to turn off the loop at the end of the song. I am not sure about a midi pedal. You would need to check with Boss to see if that is supported. If you are wanting to build complete songs you would probably need the RC500, it has 5 separate tracks and may be a way to do that. These devices can get real complicated and take some time to program and learn to use. Good Luck! Thanks

    • @DestinyisCalling
      @DestinyisCalling  Před 2 lety +1

      @@michaelconroy6242 So I just checked the manual and it does have settings to allow you to set the foot pedal to go to the next memory setting and one to go back to the previous setting, which would work for a verse/chorus setup. Setting 24 Switches to the next phrase memory.
      25 Switches to the previous phrase memory

    It Is OK BUT........What ever you pushing or turning with your right hand your hand is covering it so WE can not see what you doing..you have to change the camera angle to the other side..

    • @DestinyisCalling
      @DestinyisCalling  Před 2 lety

      Sorry about that. It was the Value knob that changes channels. That is the main knob you turn to get to the different settings. Thanks
