For anyone who knows what that thing that has been killing Lego in the beginning, it's actually the game's version of a Smiler. According to the wiki, Smilers are beings with a large smile, no facial features other than a bright smile and very white eyes. They just look like floating entities, but they lurk in the pitch black to hide their black bodies, they are hostile, but looking at them will stop them. And they also hate light.
Now that you say that, yes, it makes sense. Also I loved how they included the Partygoers because they are known to be able to noclip to other levels to get more wanderers
