Tennis in the 1990's was awesome! Who remembers the 1996 ATP Tour World Championships Final, Pete Sampras v Boris Becker in Hannover? What an epic!💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🎾🎾🎾
I remember that match, I was 11 at that time. That was a very high level match.
@@dropshot5791 You've got a great memory! I was 18, back then!
@@jeremycostello4007 Yes not a bad memory:))). I also remember very well watching live the match between Sampas and Courrier in the AO quarters when Sampras was crying and making aces, because his coach was critically ill and passed away. That was a great match too. You remember what year was that?
@@dropshot5791 That Australian Open match was played way back in January 1995! Unfortunately coach Timothy Ernest Gullikson, died on May 3, 1996!
One of the best matches of all time!!! Becker Sampras 96 MASTERS FINAL!
One of the best indoor matches of the 90s!!
This court is so pleasing to watch
Becker had such an aura. Loved that twisted serve. Next to Federer the most pleasant player to watch for me.
I agree. I’d add Rafter as well.
Becker was my favourite back in the day
@@luisvargasmena3140I have met Rafter. Gem of a guy.
Twisted is how he got power transferred from feet to legs to arms. Only player I know who lands on the right foot.
Yannick Noah too@@radiohead2206
Becker vs Ivanisevic - fire vs fire.
Danke für alles, Boris!
What a dive by Becker on the final point.
From The Namesake Of The Shot Worldwide And To The Present Day.
What a fucking beast of a line up here, both in their primes!!! Genius legends🤛🏾👌🏾
This makes me feel so OLD. Lol. I remember as a child I was obsessed with Ivanesavic. That day he won Wimbledon against Rafter, I think I was the only Australian screaming at the tv supporting the Croatian. These guys had so much character in that era
I often rewatch that legendary final and it always reminds me how much more interesting to watch tennis was back in those days.
Character is the key word. 80's and 90's will never be matched.
My family thought I’d get a heart attack watching that match and screaming at the screen after every shot, but finally my man Goran pulled through!! What an exhilarating journey that was!! One of the most memorable sporting days in my highly active TV watching life! 😜 Becker & Steffi will remain my first ❤️ who got me into this beautiful sport!
Asa fellow Aussie, I too was somehow drawn to barrack for Goran in that final too, though Rafter probably deserved to win it too.
Immer Top Duelle Becker und Ivanisevic 👍👍👍
I always wondered how Becker didn't snap his back in half with that serve. There was an ace battle going on for a minute there. Goran has always been my favorite player & Boris my 2nd favorite. Fantastic tie break!
Becker, Sampras, Ivanisevic....my top 3
@mtklaric Pete was & will likely always be one of the best, but I will forever be annoyed at him for slam-blocking Goran! 🤨
@@alliehamilton-calhoun162 yeah I know, Goran should have won 3,4 Wimbledons at least...and I am Croatian, Pete made the whole country lose 15 years of life collectively...:D
@@alliehamilton-calhoun162 Goran was unlucky in 1995 and 1998 Wimbledons. Such small margins cost him. He didn’t play a smart us open semi though.. that was his biggest chance away from his favourite major.
Becker was a great player. Looked intimidating on the court. One of the best serve and volley player.
Those days were so great.
These two guys were beasts
What kind of rallies? 7:7 halfvolley touched the line and the matchpoint thereafter. What a fantastic player he was! Not to compare to the monoton and brainsless game of today!
Becker my all time fave, with Krajicek. Great seeing Boris not having to lose to Sampras.
I hate seeing Boris and Andre lose to Pete!
krajicek had a huge game. i didn't realize how good his ground game was. beautiful all court player
That final point just couldn't be won any better.
As a Lendl fan I genuinely hated Boris but I have to say he was so damn good! Luckily genetics (or God if you trust one) didn't gifted him with fast legs otherwise there would had been no competition for a decade. Nobody has (or has ever had) that combination of power, net play ability and mental strength (watch this tie break, he didn't commit a single error).
Comme toi, j'ai détesté Becker car il a privé Lendl de plusieurs grands chelem gagnés en plus dont ce Wimbledon 1989 mémorable mais il faut admettre que Becker a été un joueur extraordinaire.
Love this match! Loved watching both these players too! The crowd support for Boris from the German crowd was awesome too, you could see the love they have for Boris!
Now THAT is Crazzzzzzzyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Почти 40 лет...красота... не хуже современных теннисистов...если не лучше...
Grandissimi giocatori.
Wow, compare the atmosphere from this crowd to the one at any of the Indian Wells matches this year and it makes me sad honestly
Becker was a beast back then
Tomaba de la Ricarda
What a dive! 😧
Amazing tiebreak.Well done Boris👏👏
Boris is now doing a different kind of service.
The Forehand Shank Redemption.
Lol 🤣
Wonder if they know they will both coach the GOAT of tennis
I can remember well. What a match. Courier in the final was no problem!
Courier was garbage in fast courts. Agassi would have destroyed Becker, but unfortunately he was injured.
@@cloudman8911 That is reading in the sky. Becker played so well and with pressure against Courier. It is like it is!
@@Marc443 reading in the sky? Courier never won the atp masters finals. Everyone knows that Courier's return sucked. He always had problems in fast surfaces.
@@cloudman8911 But Courier won against Sampras😳
@@Marc443 So what? How many times did he defeat Sampras?🤔🤔🤔😑😑😑😑😑😑
During 1992, Becker brought home seven titles, but in 1993, his personal life took a turn, and after a surprising marriage and a number of tax issues, Becker entered into a mid-career slump. He was able to recover from this by 1995, and once again found himself at Wimbledon. This time, however, though he beat Andre Agassi, he lost to Pete Sampras. However, Becker did win the ATP Tour World Championships against Michael Chang.
Though the end of the 1990s was rocky for Becker, his colleagues greatly respected him, and even his rival, Sampras, said that Becker was the best player he had ever played.
Throughout his career, Becker played best on indoor carpet and grass courts, and never won a tournament on a clay court.
His movement around the court was his major weakness! The Wimbledon Final loss against Pete Sampras in 1995, saw his legs go to jelly after he narrowly won the first set, he admitted it as such! His amazing semi-final victory over Andre Agassi, saw him burn excess fuel, so it's a shame that he wasn't able to improve on that aspect of his game, as he certainly had the talent to have won more Grand Slam Titles!
@@jeremycostello4007 Very well written responce, i agree with you. Becker was out of fuel against Sampras in the in the final.
@@suatkayatennis Thanks! He retired from tennis in 1999, at just 31 years of age as well, which by today's standards is quite young, he peaked very early in his career which probably explains to a certain degree why he came to that decision! He certainly didn't have the longevity of Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic or Rafa Nadal!
@@jeremycostello4007 @Jeremy Costello Yes you're right about that Becker peaked very early in his carrier and he won Wimbledon at 17 as a teenager with that powertennis. Becker was unfortnatly not so consistent thru his carrier like Agassi,Sampras and the big 3 but on the other hand i think his achievements before he got 20 years will be very difficult to top in the future.
@@suatkayatennis He's form especially after his marriage to Barbara was up and down, although he did have a second wind from Wimbledon 1995 to the end of 1996, when he defeated Goran in the Grand Slam Cup Final in Munich!
King Boris 🎾💪🏼🇩🇪
Големият играч е ГОРАН ИВАНИШЕВИЧ!!❤ Недостижим!🎉🎉
This match was 92. Indoor surfaces i would say were mostly fast surface, the court they played this match on was very fast. Definitely serve volleyers like Becker, Sampras and Edberg loved this kind of surface
Memory...brings back memory....
2 legends
No matter if like past tennis or today's you have to admit in the past you saw variety of players. Agassi was totally different vs Becker was different vs McEnroe. You could put a bag on a player's face and I could tell you who is the player. Unlike today, same serve, same double backhand. No idea how to volley, or hit a smash.
02:18 what a volley
Boris, che fenomeno 👍👏👏👏
Fantastic breaker! Tennis ruled in the 90s! Wanted Goran to win it but nevertheless I was pleased Becker went on to win the tournament!
Contrary to popular belief the transition to serve + big baseline hitting had already started in the 90s. Edberg hit his peak and his highest tennis level in 1991 but that was effectively the end of pure serve volley artistry. Becker's game (and Lendl too) were really the blue print for the modern power game. Sampras, stich, krajicek, Ivanisevic were all huge servers and had powerful groundstrokes/ great returns. They had complete all court games and part of the evolution that led to players like Roger and Wawrinka. Becker stayed relevant in 1995-96 and won the 1996 AO because of his baseline game, not just serve volley though he was a better volleyer than most. Watch the low FH volley starting at 2:18
As Edberg won US open brilliantly in 92, I would say after AO in 93, when he lost the final.
@@SuperHammaren Yes, but it more grit than pure level. his level was higher in 1991 but clutch play was better in 1992, though he was so good in 1991 USO he didn't need to
This was one of the best indoor matches of the 90s. Virtually all indoor tournaments these days are hardcourt.
this indoor greenset surface played medium (1994) to medium fast but it was fair surface for all styles of play though it rewarded attacking players. i hate the molasses slow indoor hardcourts today though to be fair the indoor speed of the ATP finals in Turin has been sped up the past two years
AMAZING BATTLE!!!!
Becker was my all time fav. But I did always feel bad for Goran when he kept losing Wimbledons. Glad he finally won. Joker just stopped working with him. His loss.
Becker was really a very good looking man.
simply awesome!
That final point is brilliant
2:46 : Goran showing absolute Balls of Steel here, going from 3-6 to 6-6 like a BOSS !!! MANY Would have crumble against one of the Tenns GOAT AND A Very HOSTILE Crowd....
I miss `90s tennis, especially indoors on carpet. Nothing better than serve & volley action and a large teutonic crowd. ;) I do still like today´s tennis, but that style of play seems completely lost now.
I hate today's monotone tennis. I only watch 80s-90s games now
World class tennis !
BECKER ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I used to hate Boris losing to Sampras and Agassi
Fckn love Becker
Now that’s a fast court!!
NO WAY the Boris demi-volè and jumping volè like a goalkeper
As great as he was on grass at Wimbledon, Becker was a beast on indoor carpet, especially in Germany in front of the home fans
I think the players now are much stronger and faster. I’m enjoying all newgen players !!!! They are so amazing
Nadie como el Carlo
aaaaand you would be wrong....stronger maybe...but faster no....they gradualy slowed down the game from 2001 to acomodate baseline play...I mean brainless tennis...
Today is boring next to these all court warriors
@@hw343434 Couldn't agree more.
They should try weightlifting then.
Questo si che è tennis, non quelle palette che vediamo oggi
Ivanisevic does not has the killer instinct and solely rely on his service for aces. That was the reason so many heartbreaks encountered and story will be different if his returns is more menacing.
Brutal💪👌😳👍👍
More boris vids pls
4:12 men of honor…
Boris was the Best
Is the full match of this online anywhere?
Epic.
Nice court
El partido es de semifinales, no la final tal como dice el subtítulo.
fou ce match
Boris was pure alpha male. Despite the exaggerated rock and hip rotation, technically his serve, toss and wrist probation was perfection.
Too bad that off court issues distracted his peak years but the game also changed dramatically with racquets and court speeds in the 90s and he was still relevant in the mid nineties. It was so to become the era of the taller big servers like Stich, Krajicek, Sampras and others.
Goran was just all time fave. Didn't even need to hit close to the lines to get aces with his quick arm action and disguise. Korda, Arazi, so
I am Japanese , so , I can not Enough English.
This movie , I felt again , Becker was not ony service player.
And , Ivanisevic was only service player.
Becker had a total game in tennis, serve is just an advantage among others
Novak was 5 years old…
2:47 That pump
if Ivanisevic would play at 3.36 frome behind ,he would not lose this point.he would play easy forehand
This is tennis not the 25 rallies bs today.
Novak’s coahes
Ivanisevic or Zverev?
Ivanisevic any day
both are coach of Novak
semifinal match
The atp masters finals were special, because they removed the lines used for doubles matches. Nowadays, there isn t anything special about this tournament.
Aguante la falopa
Tom Cruise so tall when playing tennis
If only Ivanisevic had anything, just ANYTHING, apart from just a killing serve.
And both coached NOVAK GOATOVIC after retirement.
Why no tennis federation helping boris
Slow surfaces gave destroyed tennis.
Missed becker
Heutzutage versteht man gar nimmer, wieso Boris Becker angefeuert wurde.
What are you sobbering? He was one of the greatest players ever to watch.
Tennis today is just boring
In terms of quality this is no match to modern tennis
Norrie vs Basilashvili was way better 👍
haha lol
In terms os hallucinogens, you are on top of the game, though.
You mean long rallies that more often than not end in an unforced error.
Modern players had 30 years to develop their skills.
Norrie or Basilashvilli would not have been under the Top 50 at the beginning or in the middle of the nineties. They would have been lost with these raquets.
Did you recognize that a 32 year old Becker has beaten Kiefer in 1999 after Kiefer won Halle? And thereafter Hewitt. And later, Hewitt won Wimbledon. Hewitt had never won Wimbledon in the nineties!
03:44
acht - sieben
eight - nine, Becker
wait a minute
Good times.
