When you see a person externally it is always superficial, whereas books are the place where he expresses his real thoughts, that is why you can understand Prabhupada most fully through books, that is why physical service is less important. External vision can be an extra touch, but just by seeing someone externally, you will never understand him and will never come to his level. Even the external vision of God is not enough; many saw God when He was on this earth, but they remained materialists. Even those who died in the presence of God, most of them did not reach Him personally, they went into Brahman, this is not a very good result. The problem is that they did not try to understand Him, they did not try to listen to Him and learn from Him. In spiritual life, studying the words and following it is the most important thing, and those who do this can reach the very top of spiritual life, no physical presence near the guru or even near God can compare with this
