Track #2 of The Sound's 1985 album Heads and Hearts. Reissued in the Shock of Daylight & Heads and Hearts compilation album. More information: www.renascent.co.uk/albums/sho...
I keep that line on a little piece of paper in my wallet. I've written down a lot of Adrian's lyrics and keep them in my possession. When life gets painful, and it often does; I simply open my wallet, unfold my little piece of paper and smile at those words.
I have shared this band to 4 people in person so far, and will continue to show them to everyone i feel needs this as much as i did. Thank you, The Sound.
It's all such a blur when time goes so quickly Trying to hang on to the way that you'd like things to stay You trace back the seconds recall the details From someone will, to someone does To someone did, you know I did Oh there must be a hole in your memory But I can see I can see, a distant victory A time when you will be with me You cut me off just as I was starting to speak The language you keep hidden away It's just like the question on everyone's lips But it's not on mine Where all you'll find is a twisted smile From another time Another time, another time Oh there must be a hole in your memory But I can see I can see, a distant victory A time when you will be with me Another time, another time Oh there must be a hole in your memory But I can see I can see, a distant victory A time when you will be with me There'd be another time, another time Oh there must be a hole in your memory But I can see I can see, a distant victory A time when you will be with me I can see, that there's got to be another time It's got to be
Total underrated masterpiece. This track keeps haunting me in 2023. This mix of despair & hope is quite hearttouching. And what to say about melody and Borland’s voice… Relative unsuccess of the sound is still a mystery for me. Hope you’ve found peace above Adrian.
The Sound were a remarkable and really underrated band. Wonderfully put together tunes, haunting lyrics and music that tugged at the soul. I saw that one bloggist saw the Sound opening for Midnight Oil. I'm surprised it wasn't MNO opening for the Sound.
Although they never got the credit for it - Borland and The Sound truly crystallised the post-punk genre. I find something new in the music and lyrics every time I revisit them :)
In my opinion they are THE post punk band. Nobody even really comes close for me. Nobody to match the intensity and emotional honesty of a frontman like Adrian. Nobody to match the raw beauty and talent as a musician and songwriter. The Sound simply had it all!
Saw The Sound open for Midnight Oil at the Hammersmith Palais July 8th 1985 when on a trip from the US...Feel blessed to see both bands at their peak...Man The Sound/Adrian were as good as any other band from the 80's IMO..thanks for up loading these so i done have to flip my LP's over half way..Cheers
Only song that I heard from the sound and it’s amazing. Tried listening to their other songs but couldn’t get into them not like this song…. Must be the relatability factor to the lyrics and the way that this song is composed is just brilliant. But I don’t see myself feeling the same for the rest oh well I guess that’s good enough for me
@@tomo366 yeah that dude had a lot of solid 80s postpunk/new wave tracks on his channel, he also had the most viewed video of New Order's Temptation's 12 inch version before it got taken down, i reckon around 5m views
One of the most beatifull songs of 80's!
This masterpiece wasn't even a single.
Noone even knows this band.
unfortunate i know they deserved better
"A distant victory" - to write this and be listened to 40 years later...[and how I still love it all]

@@massivegat5087 I think I will do that too - again
Adrian Borland stated that Total Recall was his favorite song to play live, according to an interview I have read.

One of the greatest songs of all time. Pure beauty and passion.
That ending always get me, how many lives he might have saved with his band and music, well I am here today thanks to them.
The power in the vocal make this a fucking evergreen
It's all such a blur when time goes so quickly
Trying to hang on to the way that you'd like things to stay
You trace back the seconds recall the details
From someone will, to someone does
To someone did, you know I did
Oh there must be a hole in your memory
But I can see
I can see, a distant victory
A time when you will be with me
You cut me off just as I was starting to speak
The language you keep hidden away
It's just like the question on everyone's lips
But it's not on mine
Where all you'll find is a twisted smile
From another time
Another time, another time
Oh there must be a hole in your memory
But I can see
I can see, a distant victory
A time when you will be with me
Another time, another time
Oh there must be a hole in your memory
But I can see
I can see, a distant victory
A time when you will be with me
There'd be another time, another time
Oh there must be a hole in your memory
But I can see
I can see, a distant victory
A time when you will be with me
I can see, that there's got to be another time
It's got to be
beautiful !!!

Was in London during that gig. Missed it. Saw them record Hothouse at the Marquee soon after
Such a timeless song,it never gets old. Should've been the title track to the old Arnie film "Total Recall" or even that poxy remake.
💘 and ✌ to Adrian. What a talent.Heavy song band in great form.
Greatest Band Ever
Brilliant.!!
Obra de arte, mi tema favorito de The Sound, ¡gracias por la música, Adrian! ♫♪♫♪

Every single song he's written has moved me deeply, to each his own
Better than "Love Will Tear Us Apart" or "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out"
absolute facts
no
Não.
True
Ummm. Shhhhh yes
"A música da minha vida." Nada mais a acrescentar.
