At 10 minutes he's talking abut flash duration, but, also talking about High Speed Sync. If you're using HSS, flash duration is irrelevant isn't it? You'll be using the shutter speed to freeze the action not the flash duration.

He is more talking about the actual flash duration as opposed to the shutter duration. Especially if you're using some full power lights the actual flash duration could be 1/1000th while the same light will be 1/8000th or even 1/12,000th at a much lower power. So if you're shooting a 200mm lens and the flash duration is slower at full power...you'll still be dealing with motion blur.

@dave_sports_photos you are absolutely right. the guy is confused despite taking great pictures. He's shooting Canon and Canon speed lights which as he rightfully said uses HSS, where flash duration is not exactly relevant. Take great pictures but I don't think he got the science down. The Olympics don't allow flash as far as I know so those are good pictures but I guess practice runs. If I remember correctly, those real ones were taken from far away with tele as no photographers can get close in the real competition. Correct me if I am wrong.
