Stone Ships in Sweden?

  • After a slow(ish) start to our motorhome trip through Sweden we leave Malmo and head towards the Falsterbo peninsula in the south of Sweden. The town of Falsterbo is located in the southern part of the Falsterbo peninsula. Together with Skanör it forms a twin city. Both places are among the oldest cities in Sweden. Falsterbo is also nationally known for the Falsterbo Horse Show. Every summer the event sets the region for one week into a state of frenzy. Guess what week this was?! 🤔Luckily we managed to find a brilliant parking at the Falsterbo marina which was also within walking distance from one of the BEST kite-surfing spots in the south of Sweden! Oh, we also visited IKEA in Malmo en-route to sample their famous meatballs, make it to Smygehuk (the southernmost point of Sweden) as well as to Ales Stenar - a 400-year-old monolithic monument in the shape of a ship, made up of 59 large stones & perched on a hill.
    ABOUT US:
Hi! We're Andre & Lisa! Full time travelers and nomads since 2018.
This was not an overnight decision. It was a goal we worked towards for 2 decades. We have always prioritized travel as a way to satisfy our most basic curiosity - to depart from regular life into something new, even if only briefly, before returning to ‘normality’. Normality, however, is subjective and when you travel to unfamiliar places, you lose your grounding, your bearings - it challenges everything you consider ‘normal’ about life. Everything is unordinary. Everything is important. Everything requires your attention. You understand that because you have no home, every place can equally be your home. More importantly, time is of the essence. You can find our blog at www.wewillnomad.com where we post regularly about the destinations we visit along with travel tips and what we spend on travelling.

Even though I am Danish and now live in Denmark again, I lived close to Ales Stena for about 10 years. There is great fishing for Trout, Herring and the greenbone Garfish in the season in the Sea in that area.

Glad we can share our experience! To be honest, these are tricky countries to visit... expensive, vast and not the best weather! But they are beautiful!

I thought maybe I'd watched this 1 already but turned out it was just the Ikea thing and maybe the marina. Deja vu 😉
I really liked that stone ship site, felt like it enhanced the setting and was enhanced by it. I love when farm animals are free to roam thru ancient sites - feels more authentic somehow.
And I agree Andre, sometimes a few ppl in a shot isn't a bad thing - can provide size comparison

You know it's actually nice to get comments on these older videos. It's a bit of a reminder of these places we visited and the adventures we've been on. It's also a reminder that there's just so much more to see and experience. I really liked the Falsterbo spot (as in me, Andre). It was great for kiting and if the weather is nice the beaches are brilliant. The southern part of Sweden was getting a bit busy that time of the year.
