Please excuse any E&OE. Thank you.🙏 The first 6 lines generally illustrate the liveliness, the dynamism and the changeability of nature ie all forms of life. Nothing is constant in life. Changes lead to production of the new and cause the disintegration of the old. The life cycle goes on. At times a major paradigm shift occurs - a “sudden gush of wind and rain” - a sudden big upheaval. A hero emerges to save the situation. Fate is unpredictable. It is likened to the flying meteor; it has no idea where it’s heading to. Truly I believe! Every life, every tiny cell instinctively struggles to live on. Does its best. Exhausts all its efforts to survive. At times it seems like all is in vain. But there must be a ray of hope somewhere. One needs to seek that out. Enlighten yourself! The wind, rain and storm are natural phenomena in the environment, similarly it is natural that such major events or catastrophes could sweep through human life all of a sudden, causing pain and sufferings, like soiled or wet clothes on our bodies. The advice in this song is to accept the calamities as part of life, but be proactive to deal with such occurrences. Enlighten yourself! Educate yourself! This is even more relevant today, especially with the advancement in information technology where the speed of delivery is instantaneous and the truth and fake are often garbled beyond distinction. Enlighten yourself is crucial and essential. Zhou Shen has very cleverly differentiated the delivery of the next four lines in the ancient opera mode, implying perhaps that lessons could be learnt from history. He beams listeners back in time to the “Forbidden City” era. The only difference is the time, the space/ground is the same, and life is the same. He took 2 legendary lines from one of 苏轼Su Shi’s poems ‘定风波’ Ding Feng Bo written in 1082. Don't listen to the sound surging through the forest thrashing the leaves. Live whole life in 'misted-rained straw' clothes. Su Shi’ the Poet, (one of the most accomplished writers in classical Chinese literature) was describing how he overcame the grueling hardship of his exile and persecution. Guiding his readers not to fear (don’t listen) the severe storm, but to calmly live through life in their ordinary selves (wearing typical peasant clothes). In that poem he illustrated further, the futility of fear and anxiety over these obstacles, (he called trivial matters in life) that like the torrential rain and surging wind they would naturally fade away. Su Shi’ was highly respected and revered for his simple, upright and straightforward life philosophy, built from his rich experiences. He was outspoken and did everything for the good of the country and the people. His honest opinion landed him a death sentence under the imperial law. But because of his established impeccable personality, his past rivals and even the Emperor stood up for him and had the death penalty reduced to an exile. Su Shi’s advocacy is to lead a life of simplicity, of forbearance, of forthrightness and that this would stand you in good stead when you are in need of help. The reference to the Changyin Pavilion (noted for its Grand Theater Building) in the Forbidden City, could mean that the current moment is only a tiny ‘grain’ of time of the Pavilion’s age of 600 years. Alternatively, the ‘grain’ could mean the seed to 600 years wealth of knowledge/wisdom/enlightenment, where one could chart a dream as wide as, in the deep blue sea. Zhou Shen ends the song emphatically with, be fearless to enlighten yourself. 💡🌠 Sincere gratitude to Zhou Shen for this extremely profound and very enlightening song. Your delivery made it truly inspirational. Thank you Zhou Shen 周深🤗💖。

hǎi shàng yī zhèn fēng chuī qǐ
On the sea, a gust of wind blows up.
bái yún yǒng xiàng lù dì
White Clouds billow towards dry land
jì fēng dài zǒu shā lì
The seasonal wind takes away the sand
sì jì lěng nuǎn de jiāo tì
Four seasons with cold and warmth alternating.
duō xiān huó de shēng mìng
Plenty of fresh lives
yòu kū wěi de hén jī
as well as traces of the withered.
shì bēn pǎo zhōng tú rán xí lái de fēng yǔ
It's the sudden gushing of the wind and rain.
shì hēi' àn zhōng yī gēn huǒ chái rán shāo de guāng míng
In the midst of darkness it is one matchstick that kindles light
yě xǔ nǐ cāi bù tòu wèi zhī de sù mìng
Maybe you can't fully guess the unknown fate
xiàng liú xīng fēi xiáng zhe tā què bù zhī mù dì
just like a meteor flying on, not knowing its purpose.
