Me personally I like the cherrystone because it has that deep sound with it. That's just me.
not just you. I bought a epi es339 just recently for that very reason :-)
Ted Nugent played a “thinline” hollowbody jazz guitar. "Its 23 1/2″ scale is also unusual, being more typical of a student guitar than a professional instrument." www.vintageguitar.com/1971/ted-nugents-1962-gibson-byrdland/

"This is a jazz guitar"
*Plays metal*
I guess you can say he's got *guts* ...
... I will show myself out
Wao so what?
And yet it still sounded great!
I do that too
Owns a Epi Sheraton, plays metal 60% all the time. The rest 40% is pop punk stuff
Wao lol
So what do you think?
More comparisons like that would be great!
Frog Leap Studios i think you are great!
The player makes the guitar sound good
i think i want the 94€ guitar but i have no money xD
Great video! I have a question. In a previous video you had a cream color guitar with what looked like p90 pickups. What kind of guitar was it?
There's a difference, but nowhere near a $1400 difference.
I could only tell difference between first two.
Hello YAOG didn't know you watch FLS :D
YAOOOOG
Also bear in mind that generally higher end guitars play a lot nicer and feel better to play so you are also paying for that
The sound isn't the only reason to pay big bucks for a guitar. What can't be quantified here is the craftsmanship and how it actually feels in your hands. Nothing worse than nearly cutting your palms open on shitty frett work! Don't need to pay $1400 to get a decent guitar though! 6-800 USD can get you beast of an axe!
I thought they were going to sound like ass but they seem to good.
Player talent and skill does that.
dont forget he has op amps :D
Yes, the key to truly epic electric guitar: distortion and clipping from turning everything up to 11 and making the amps part of the instrument's acoustics. Saturate those transistors from boring amps to switches, flicking on and of'f' to your fingers.
I think I need to use that for a lyric now...and put the second 'f' on off
Saturate those transistors from boring amps to switches
Flicking on and off to your fingers
By your will alone
Electrons fly down the cord
And the Metal
is born
You can play a potato thru his setup and it will sound good. Gear goes a long way.
Beginner guitar players take note. When it comes to sound, THE GUITAR IS NOWHERE NEAR AS IMPORTANT AS WHAT IT PLUGS INTO. Thank you.
I hear a tiny difference. The high end guitar seems to have a tighter range. The high end on the arpeggios sounded much better to me too. The hollow body had a very wide low end, which makes sense. Overall though, unless I heard them back to back, I doubt I could tell a difference, except possibly the hollowbody, just because it's bass is so wide. I think 95% of the difference is in playability though. I bet with the same pickups in the solidbodies they would sound almost identical in tone, but one being more playable will make a small difference in what's being played. Just my 2¢ though.
Davis Phillips tbh it was hard to tell the difference in the mix. But on their own the high end one had a more refined and "cleaner" distortion compared to the other 2.
You can definitely distinguish the fingering separation on the high-end guitar vs the others but the riffing sounds very similar across the board.
The other side of the cost is longevity....the cheap guitar just can't keep up with the harsh life of a working musician.
I build my pwn guitars. I have semi hollow explorers. random stars and flying V...lmao
They all sound slightly different and feels slightly different. I dont mind.
Alot of it is the rear pick up placement or distance from the bridge.
I like the semi hollow..when I go clean. They resonant slightly different.
I can play jazz. folk , classical..ect
PLUS they're not BRICKS..still in the 7-8 lb range
i can go death metal all day long. i have amp sims up the wazooo
Most of it has to do with higher frets access and neck profile.
I can easily play the E phrygain dominant with the root at the 19 frets
and hit all the notes on the 22 frets...without fighting it. ( High E and Low E)
i have more control of my notes...I make guitar scream or have more control on
the bends at the high end
or navigate the fretboard...the way I want to navigate it.
Even on flying V or explorers...there's high frets issues from factory made guitars I go for medium jumbo frets. I built enough of them to worked out bugs.
All my LP set in Neck ($90 kits)...the tenon are shave so my thumb can butt up
against boby and easily rotate under the 16th fret. The corner of the body
are also shaven so it wont poke my palm.
Bascailly more comfortable to play. Even the back of the bodies are shave
so they dont poke my ribs...Different strap locations..or the neck wont dip.
Different jacks location...out of my way.
But the stuff I do to my guitars takes TIME ( Labor)
Even on that stock warlock...id would round off the neck pocket and shave
the neck's tenon. So my thumb can rotate under the neck eaiser.
i dont mind taking a wood file to a $75 guitar.lmao
The Cherrystone to me has a vintage feel to the sound, and sounds kind of close to the Musil. If I were making rock/metal, I'd use the Cherrystone more often than not (not for live shows though).
I don't think that he was referring to the look..
Hollowbody guitars can cause huge feedback on stage if you play with distortion.
No problem, we learn something new every day. :D
i think its not about the guitar, its about the player
It's both. If you give a shitty race car to a good race driver, he will not win
watch initial d lol
and also the pickups
Everything counts. Every single thing adds a bit to the tone.
It's more than that, it's also about the mix itself, with the right mix all of them sound good, but they will definitely feel different to the person who plays it
ordering a high end guitar definitely does not guarantee a good set up. I bought I Gibson Flying V that was so bad Gibson had to replace it and I still had to set up the intonation and action on the replacement myself. The BC Rich sounded great, surprised you got that so cheap.
I've seen a post in reddit a gibson guitar come with a nut cut into a wrong direction.
There's your problem, you bought a Gibson. They aren't known for their quality control at all
I have a Gibson and a kit guitar that you put together yourself and I can vouch for your comments. I swapped the pick-ups with Gibson ones and the sound is pretty similar, but the feel is much better on the Gibson.
That's really the main thing.. the "tone" is almost all in the pickups and amp.. but the playability is worlds different and that's what you really pay for.. and the look. Most high dollar guitars have fancy body tops like quilted maple and such.
The cherrystone has a warmer tone, it fills the sound in a very cool way. I can still hear it in the mix, even if it's a bit lost in all the sounds. But it's a very light difference. The more advanced the tools used in mix, the less the price of the guitar matters... It's a bit sad, honnestly, but the very good thing is that, now, everyone, whatever his or her money means, can make music
I really liked the Cherrystone.
hey Leo!
all guitars sounds good. remember golden rule: "it's not the guitar, it's the guitarist"
If you used a proper tube amp and not a Kemper, the you would notice the major differences. the Kemper's use convolution and colours any guitar with a digital overlay
StormtrooperCylon exactly, amp modeling is like 95% of the sound. If it was a tube amp we would hear the difference.
So if you have a modeling amp or system then pick up a guitar that feels nice to play
I was super impressed by the Cherrystone. I think it was hanging with the Musil decently under mix.
The BC Rich needs a Metal Zone!
Lol. xD
ALL THE GAIN!!!!!!!!
Maybe even 2
dario5doom one of the Blackstar distortion pedal pedals. Has it's own tube. Can't go wrong.
Metal muff!
To this untrained ear...they sound the same!
The differences present themselves a lot better while playing live: feedback, hum noise, overall definition, etc. The studio on the other hand is a more controlled environment so you can make it work
Something about that hollow body playing metal music makes it so badass
I will definitely by a chip guitar, instead of an expensive guitar, it's a little difference in the sound.
Mario Alzaga i think the amp makes it sound good
As Leo said though don't expect a cheap guitar to be set up properly. You'll either need to do it yourself or pay to get it done. I'm talking string height, intonation, neck relief, pick up height and possibly needing to dress frets. Also cheap guitars often have cheap tuners which can cause issues. That said you can get good ones.
A cheap guitar will behave like a cheap guitar. The more u use it the more it wears out. Get yourself a middle priced one and you good to go
It's really more about a good set of pickups, good amp, and good playing. The only HUGE difference you'll feel on a GOOD guitar is playability.. the sound won't be that much different.. though as Leo said.. cheap guitars usually have bad string height, cheap pickups, uneven fretboards and dead frets (high or low frets) that can also cause string buzz.
@Free speech for the dumb wtf?
i think the first one sounds the best
This pretty much applies to drumsets as well. The main difference I see in high-end vs low-end drums is the number of tuning lugs on the heads; the higher-end sets usually have more lugs so that the heads get be tuned closer to a pitch or exact note. Also with more tuning lugs the toms tend to stay in tune longer. Other differences include the types of woods used and the outer finish on the set. Higher-end often have a better coating and finish; lower-end usually have a cheap vinyl wrap. There are a number of other differences but in my experience as long as you have good batter and resonant heads on the set and you tune them properly it can be difficult to tell the difference.
I have even more respect for you now that I know you set up your own instruments. I already respect your playing, video editing, musical tastes, and recording skills.
"Yeah, i bought a jazz-blues guitar so i'll test it by hitting some doom metal"
Great video! I posted one a cheap verses expensive video last week. Not as good but hell great minds think alike. Enjoyed it.
I'm honestly kind of blown away by the quality of sound out of that hollow body! Quite a value. This video was more proof that a great guitar player can make any guitar sound awesome
That hollow body actually gives some cool character to the mix... I would TOTALLY use that on a future track if I were you. It looks pretty sweet too!
Buy a mid-priced guitar, go to a luthier with it, now you have a guitar that sounds like and plays better than a high-end guitar.
So true! My relatives were moving from their apartment and had some old guitar laying around, it was decoration at that point, it was a drag for them so they gave it to me, went to a luthier, he set it up, lowered strings and now its like brand new!
Saludos desde México!!
Leo! MAN I've been digging on your music! Your cover of Chandelier is spot on! I had my wife sitting next to me, and it caught her attention (she usually doesn't like many of the metal bands I've played!!). I played it again, and that got the ball rolling. I've watched many of your videos, and I have to say: your presentation, presence and punctuation is there! Your style, the way you're stringing together what the original artist intended, and then you fleshed it out in such a way that is MUCH more addicting to listen to.
I haven't really found the value in covers in the past. People would ask me, "Do you know-" 9.9/10 times I'd have to say no. I was absorbed with trying to create different patterns that rolled, or chugged or just whatever. Watching your videos has really inspired me to start experimenting with covers!! The night that I heard your cover, I went downstairs to my basement and plugged my phone into my amp and jammed on the drums with you! Your energy is contagious, and your attitude is goofy and real. Your videos have become an instant favorite here haha.
I had some questions about your process, if you had the time! I'm just a curious aspiring musician, with a mixing board, crappy mics, a guitar, drums and an amp. There are some sticks in there somewhere...
Yeah man! If I don't hear from ya, rock on! If I do, I'll shoot you my email!
O-1
I think they all sound great. I think the amp and production are really what makes them all sound good. The big difference is going to be in the build quality and feel. There's a definite difference between a $200 guitar and a $2000+ guitar. Having said that, I've played a lot of bargain guitars that felt good to me and some high end guitars I didn't think were that comfortable. So in the end, it's all a matter of personal preference and your budget.
Don't hear any difference...
Especially on an ipad mini.
Oh, come on! Don't say that you can hear the difference in the CZcams... need to listen live, only
on video you can notice a difference but is a really tiny one, but you are right, the real difference is spotted live
Me neither
There's a massive difference between the Bc Rich and the Cherrystone. The Musil sounds a bit more like the hollow body one, but less bassy and more aggressive. Ear training I guess, it sounds obvious for me, but don't worry when I started playing guitar I struggled to notice a big difference between a bridge and neck pickup...
Gets cheap guitar. Says it's not the best. Plays it. Sounds amazing anyways.
It ain't the guitar, it's the guy playin it.
The difference in sound qualities between guitars is far easier to tell with clean/low gain sounds. Heavy overdrive/distortion tends to be an equaliser. While it is true that once you have a cheap guitar set up correctly you will have a hard time telling the difference between it and an expensive model, usually you have to go through a lot to get it right.
Things like dressing the frets, having to replace machine heads are things no-one wants to do on a new guitar. Most often you have to do things like adjust the truss rod (possibly even putting a shim in the neck pocket if the break angle is not correct), adjust the bridge height, intonation, set pickup heights and check the height at the nut (which will need to be filed down if incorrect). Generally this means that saving money by buying a cheap guitar can be a false economy because to get it playing right it will cost as much (if you value your time this is) as it would have if you had bought a higher quality guitar in the first place.
Still have my F50 LTD series guitar. Still looks like new and have had it since 2006. Still sounds and plays great. Little tinny but with the right set up its awesome.
Make blink182 or Pink floyd cover dammit
Y. Emre Çağlar pink floyd dinleyen tobdur xd
Enes Erten neden kanki? :D
blink182 !
I can see what you did there ;)
Courtlyodragon what? :D
When listening to this with my studio headphones, I'd say that the BC definitly has more agression and will cut relatively well, but sounds quite... shrill, perhaps even piercing, and doesn't have any depth to it.
Have to say, liking the ES model, on its own it sounds surprizingly pleasing, but definitly lacks in definition and doesn't cut at all in a mix, it'll probably be drowned out a bit in most recordings.
The Musil obviously sounds really great, almost seems like it combines the good parts of both in a sense, since it has those nice low end frequencies that the ES has, yet cuts quite well and has sparkly highs without being shrill.
Obviously though, there's the wonders of post processing, which can make all of these sound pretty darn amazing.
Personally, I think you should pick a guitar that you like the setup, looks and most importantly feel of. Because you can fix your sound pretty easily with amps, editing etc as long as you have the right *kind* of sound, but a guitar you hate to play is a guitar you're going to avoid. Which means you don't play it, and thus don't get better.
(Les Pauls for me... love them, love to hear them, hate to play them. So I go back to my strat/Ibanez every time and sold my LP)
I have 2 of the Bc Rich Warlocks, Black and White one and a Black and Red, Love em both....
That hollow body hits HARD low end. I learned to play on a hollow body. When I got it, it had been gutted, put new pickups and controls, and I played it till it fell apart. Low end crunch is practically concussive with them LMAO
It's not what you have, but how you use it. Fiddling around with the sound settings helps too.
I remember playing around with a hss Ibanez Gio and a 80W modeling Roland amp until I managed to create a sound with more oomph than most high-end guitar setups. A shame I did't have a way to record it, but I kid you not, it is possible!
The musil had more clarity in the individual chord notes, but the pickups probably help more with that than anything. The BC Rich sounded better than I expected though. I imagine most of the difference comes down to the feel like you said.
Love this video. Not everyone can effort as high end guitar. The biggest difference will always be the player. "Only a poor craftsmen will blame his tools." Make what you have work for you.
That BC Rich Warlock was my first guitar, from a pawn shop as well
the hollow body surprisingly sets and cut through the mix best
I have a 60th anniversary Fender Stratocaster that I haven't played in some years now. I really should start to play it again. It just sits on a stand on top of my desk. I've had it since it was first released.
I got a bc rich bronze edition and got a floyd rose on it ..
Upgrade it with Seymour Duncan Gus G pickups .. and it sounds really good and as well plays very awesome ..
I can feel the huge difference between stock and the upgraded pickups ..
Great video! Just like you said it, they are pretty similar, especially in the mix. I expected they'd have more different sound.
With the CZcams compression, it's hard to hear much difference. They all sounded pretty darn good; I imagine some of that is Leo's playing, some of that is Leo's production quality, and some is the compression.
Hey Leo! Love the video man but I think you should of gone in to what you were playing everything through and also how you set up your guitars. In my experience, a really good amp can really save a lot of tonal problems in between guitars. If you could do a video sometime on how you set up your guitars, that would be awesome! Again, you sir are an absolute beast on guitar and a musical genius. Love the music!
Hey there Leo!
Interesting video there - thanks for that!
Can you do another one on how exactly you adjust the neck and the string height? I know how to change those things but I cant really get it right and would like to know how to find out whats the correct setup (I know it also is some what a matter of taste but still).
Ok, thanks, sounds interesting.
But!
1) Is 1000-1500$ already expensive? Or it is still mid-cost instrument? Like LTD being not ESP, or Gibson Studio vs. Std. or Custom, or corean PRS vs. American ones, etc.? Much of guitar players can afford 1400 $ guitar, but 3000-7000$ ones seem to be hi-end and too expensive.
2) How does it sound at solo stuff? Also so similar? I have a doubt )))
3) Are EQs also similar?
4) It's not connected with the matter, but, Leo, can You tell what bass gutar strings do U use? It's pretty interesting! :)
I liked the 2nd and 3rd guitars the most. But you can tell a difference when you compare them all. Price ranges are there because not everyone can afford a 1500 or 800 dollar guitar. But if you love to play and do it often enough, the investment into more expensive equipment is worth it. The old saying is you get what you pay for.
Same here, love the sound of the cherry one
That's Amazing!
I have the same B.C. Rich Warlock Guitar, and I never would have thought, that the difference between it and a High-End Guitar almost inaudible. Thanks for this comparison and keep up the metal :D \m/
First thing, I love your videos! Love your take on the cover tunes. I have a $450 Gibson "The Paul" that sounds great. I also have a & $4065 Tom Anderson "Drop Top Classic". I don't know if it is because I've had the Gibson for 30 years or what, but I play it more than the Tom Anderson. The TA had a 5 tone select switch and a tremolo bar and weighs only 7 Lbs. The Gibson has Duncan Seymour humbuckers and a 3-way switch and weighs a ton. Maybe it's the feel, maybe it's the weight. The TA is so easy to play, but the Gibson just feels right!
Keep making to s vids, brother! I'm a definite fan!
'It's jazz/bass guitar' when talking about the Cherrysone.... and then this roar from hell!! :D it was suprising to me :D
That was a fun test to watch. The Cherrystone is noticeably "warmer" than the other two. The Musil seemed to have the best sound overall, but you also play the Musil a bit differently; more expressive.
@2:08 I would have expected that you'd play a more bluesy passage...but no, you are true to your nature, lol...."show me your Metal !!!!" love your videos dude!
Cherrystone sounded great in the mix, really in the pocket on tone and blend.
I like the Cherrystone sound the best, but I'd rock the BC Rich too. You can always change the tones in post production.
Dude I love all your vids man, keep it up
BC sounded the best for me actually. When I had a chance to try cheap and expensive guitars, the biggest difference I felt was in how the wood was vibrant. It may be not heard when playing thru amp, but I can feel it in hands, what makes playing more exciting.
I have one of those bc Rich Warlocks
I think it is a great guitar for the money heck they eaven have one that is called the acrillic series that is a see through body wich you can get in many see through colors and also you can have lights installed in it for cool fun factor and also i like the many different head stocks and custom pickups to choose from as well..this Guitar was made for metal ..
Leo, I think the difference will show up with solos and clear sound. Why you don't check this on the video? Clear sound on higher strings and higher frets over 12... probably there will be difference in tune and sound quality.
Me: I wonder what will be the cheap guitar
Leo: I bought this B.C. Rich
Me: Nvm
I love B.C.Rich. My first bass was a B.C.Rich with reverse reaper headstock.
To each his own, but I actually preferred the sound of the Cherrystone. The Musil was great too, but it didn't seem to have as much punch on the low-end IMO. The Warlock has a ringy tone in the full mix with the top strings. Idk if it's because it needs new strings, but it didn't sound quite as nice.
I'd love to hear the difference in their tones clean (or with just a hint of drive), but I'm honestly impressed that the cheap guitars managed to sound so good in a mix
PLEASE do a metal cover of either Walking on The Sun by Smash Mouth or My Demons by Starset! I think Walking on the Sun would sound really cool and I think you could do something great With My Demons.
Tbh, the Musil has an amazing bite, that the other two don't. It would be interesting to see the Musil pickups im the BC Rich guitar. It would gauge how much of a difference the wood makes.
Remember that these are quad tracked so that's going to thicken them up a TON. Plus Leo is a world class audio engineer which is going to have a huge impact!
Also, it's not just function; you're paying for nicer materials and finishes. Just like nice furniture it'll probably be more comfortable, last longer and bring a certain amount of aesthetic enjoyment over it's life time... but either way it'll keep your ass off the floor.
The BC had the most growl to it, The Jazz guitar had heaps of bottom end which would sound great next to some screeching solos or falsetto vocals but might get lost amongst the bass and lastly the expensive guitar had the most presence. It was just a wall of sound compared to the other two.
That's right, the most difference is on the feel.... always when I see this kind of comparison, cheap doesn't sound too much different from expensive in a mix, but it feels different. I like that hollow body guitar, I think it kind sounds like mine that I use on my videos.
SWEET!!! It's not the Axe but the soul that wields it.. a good musician can bring life to anything.. Rock on Dude..
Great video! I think sounds pretty similar because all the guitars have humbucker pickups. There are tiny differences! All of them sounds great but it'd be great to test more in depth harmonics, clean tones, etc.
Well with that much distortion, mostly every guitar will sound very similar.
The best way to tell a difference is to play them on a clean channel, and test things such as sustain, note articulation, bends, and harmonics. Also, more expensive guitars are more about the feeling, play-ability, the materials, the finishes, and the process that it took to build the guitar, as well as its history. When you play a high-end guitar, it should feel completely natural and solid in your hands. This is just what I've noticed after playing countless guitars at guitar stores, from all price ranges.
I love your videos by the way! Keep up the good work my friend!
The Cherrystone sounded really smooth and soft, 100% works for metal
The problem with you LEO is that whatever you play (cheap guitars or cheap songs), you turn EVERYTHING into pure gold ! :-)
Alguien de Colombia por acá?. Saludos Leo!!, usted es una de mis grandes motivaciones en mi canal y vida como músico.
I am not an audiophile and certainly not over youtube but honestly I am not really hearing any difference. I think you are right, the fit and finish and the feel of it is where your money goes. The sound is too similar for me to pick out any real difference. Thanks for posting an honest take on that and not just saying they are crap to justify the high end stuff.
B.C. Rich guitars run close to $200 here in the states. But after you change the strings to 12 gauge and adjusting the string height it’s an aggressive sounding guitar. Truth be told has became my favorite go to guitar over my les Paul
Man. Talent matters. Look how you handled each of em well
Got a B.C. Rich of the same shape but with different neck few years back. After lots of work, with only a floyd rose bought new and a good neck pickup I had left over from another guitar (minor difference tbh considering the money difference), it plays and sounds like a dream. And I never believed B.C. Rich could deliver. Well, it does not in my experience, not factory set up anyway, but the basis is there. ALL IN ALL, I agree 100% :D. For $500 total I achieved a $1000 sound and feel, then again, lots of time spent but it was educational.
Oh man I really like the sound of that Cherrystone guitar. It's probably too muddy for fast riffs but it would work well in slower tracks with lots of palm muting.
Good video. I thinks this topic is really personal. If you make me choose between a cheap Bc Rich, and a Chapman, I will definetely go for the Chapman: there are MADE FOR METAL, have good pick-ups and you probably don't have to make adjusts to the neck, strings or whatever. But, like you said: you still can make really good sounding stuff with a cheaper one, if you are in tune and EQ correctly. But, the thing with a cheap one is that you probably won't get a DECENT and "honest" METAL tone.
It's good to know that you ACTUALLY can get really good (or decent) sound with a cheap guitar, custom pick-ups and software plugins.
love your channel, love your covers, you are a real inspiration to us budding home studio owners and this video validates something i practice daily set it up right, and play your best it will sound great!
After watching this video and your "top 3 guitars" video, I have a question/ suggestion for a video. If one were trying to own a few guitars (in my case, cheaper models) for certain tunings, what brands/ models would you suggest for specific tunings? (a full range of standard and Drop1 tunings from E - B stndrd , and Drop D - A would be interesting) Also, what are your recommendations for string gauges for said tunings? (I know there is a lot of preference/ openess to these questions, but a broad question could go a long way for people on a budget that want to sound as great as you!) Thanks, love your work!
It's not only the tone it's and how it feel to play and the quality general of the quieter
Wow what a great comparison. I know nothing about guitars and playing them. But I've loved rock music all my life and I actually liked the sound of the cheapest BC Rich the most! Great to see what kind of VFM is out there if we only look for it!
I really liked the sound of the Cherrystone... can't wait for you to use it a bit more :)
great video. I wish I could play, I can muddle my way through The Beatles Day Tripper a bit and a few other songs but nothing that would make me claim I "play guitar" it is more of a side hobby of mine to just mess around with. I played the drums back in high school in the late 80's but that was a long long time ago.
I have a request, can you do a metal version of The Beatles Day Tripper, I bet you could make it sound so awesome. I love your cover songs, keep making amazing videos!
Man, I was watching this video on teh side while working on setup on the studio here, and when the full mix came on, i was enjoying it and honestly heard no difference whatsoever between them. Good speakers, good environment and all.
You will only hear a difference (On the full mix contest) if you really pay attention, never just enjoying it.
(And AS I was typing this you just said the same thing on the video... haha)
The e string chugging was really quite similar between the bc rich and the high end guitar, I think the higher strings really sounded better on the high end guitar though. But to be honest I'd pay an arm and a leg to get an instrument that is well constructed and feels like it was made for my hands
G'day mate, really appreciate you taking out the time to demonstrate even the cash strapped muso can still make decent music even though his guitar doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Love your work.
The high end guitar was more crisp. The chug of each power chord was more distinct between the single note parts. The Warlock sounded muddy in comparison with the distortion washing out the pop beginning each chug. I have a cheap Dime 332 and it's similar to the Warlock. Good tone but it's fairly fuzzy when drenched in distortion. On stage that difference might not matter much compared to the venue's acoustics or PA, but for recording I'd definitely splash the cash for the high end model.
Largely sounds like EQ differences, which could be corrected in mix/master.
Bear in mind, though, that you're burying them under FX. Wouldn't testing them raw be a better test?
Would like to see how you tuned the gitars.
Also how will they sound when you play a jazz sound on all of them.
the cheap one (first) has way less bottom end, but in the mix it sounds good and even a bit better because bass takes the missing bottom end
May be using a different distorsion would mark the different quality sound of the guitars... that distorsion is like setting a low bar to reach for the cheap ones...
