It's refreshing to see a silly action animated series that displayed such self-awareness without sounding redundant and awkward. Surely beats the forced dialogue of a few other modern animations. Personal taste aside, I gotta admire the writers.
I think & IMO 1986 was a changing of the guard so to speak as far as animated series & especially comic books, were written. Season 3 of Transformers & Season 2 of GI Joe didn't have a lot of over the top silliness in the episodes. Computer Complications is a good example of this. Now when DIC took over GI Joe, the silliness returned

In Glamour Girls Zartan helped the Joes escape, also Zaranna helping out Mainframe a few times.

Perhaps Mindbender (along with the Crimson Guard Commander twins) was killed in the destruction of Cobra-La. Destro was still useful and competent. It's worth noting in OPERATION DRAGONFIRE, Cobra was winning until Cobra Commander was back in charge. But almost every miniseries had Cobra winning until the last episode.

After he says, "My Guard is loyal!", the Doctor sneers and questions whether that's true, the Guardsmen TURN THEIR WEAPONS ON CC! That makes no sense. Why would they blow up the wall, run in, surround the conspirators, rifles drawn, then immediately turn against CC simply because Mindbender suggested those guys might not be loyal? It's like parts of the script weren't animated.

That's messed up that the Crimson Guard turned their weapons on Cobra Commander like that. Cobra Commander turned the tables later when he had full support from high ranking Cobra members Baroness and Gnawgahyde in which he was able to easily recruit his Python Patrol to overthrow Serpentor for good.

The Arise, Serpentor, Arise storyline was the greatest multi-episode story in the original G.I. Joe cartoon. Watching this clip, I’m reminded that G.I. Joe (more accurately Cobra) had the greatest over-the-top voice actors in cartoon history! I wish modern animated shows had characters voiced like Dr. Mindbender, The Baroness, Destro, Zartan, and even Cobra Commander. On the flip side, the Joes were kinda bland - and Roadblock’s rhyming was cringe. I’ve watched some of the G.I. Joe remakes and they were utterly devoid of the “80s Magic” that made the original cartoon so popular. It would be a dream if the animation could be updated (as in completely redone, because TBH it’s difficult to watch today) but the voice performances could be preserved. I’d watch the hell out of a new G.I. Joe cartoon IF it was faithful to original!

Absolutely. A little magic was found in this series, it had some exceptionally good writing, acting, and background music.

G.I Joe: Renegades was awesome. It serves as an origin story to G.I Joe and is basically The A-Team but with the Joes.
