- Elfyn Evans secured a lights-to-flag victory on Sunday at FORUM8 Rally Japan as his Toyota Gazoo Racing team locked out the top three positions on home soil.
Welsh driver Evans clinched his eighth career win by finishing a dominant 1min 17.7sec ahead of team-mate Sébastien Ogier at this final round of the season, confirming his place as the runner-up driver in the 2023 FIA World Rally Championship for the third time.
Evans laid the foundations for glory early in the asphalt fixture when he charged to a near-two-minute advantage in Friday’s rain-soaked opening leg. From then on, he was able to control the rally by adapting his risk level to suit the ever-changing conditions.
Kalle Rovanperä’s capture of the final podium spot capped off a perfect season for Toyota, which has heralded titles for Rovanperä and co-driver Jonne Halttunen, as well as a third successive manufacturers’ championship victory.

Best drivers of all motorsport competitions even taking MotoGP into account (WRC blokes drive in all sorts of conditions, terrains, weather, surface and with very limited safety in many many places) and WRC is a motor racing competition that leaves the crying babies of F1 well stuck in the dust. Well done Toyota: a generic car maker (albeit the best generic car maker for that matter...) winning in WRC and WEC and showing Porsche and Ferrari how it gets done. Not a small task even for a company making billions. Toyota has still to taste success in F1 I know but its current form both in motor racing and car production / sales is nothing but absolutely amazing ✨

Tänak is such a crybaby. ALWAYS the car is wrong, the team is wrong, the weather is wrong, whatever.
Sport is in such a poor state. Only 3 manufacturers and discrepancy between numbers of cars run. They need strict budget caps and limit entries to 2 cars per team. Would love to see cars more relatable to road cars like it was in the 90s, early 00s.
