    RIDDICK BEHIND THE SCENES:
    • Video
Film Synopsis: Set in 19th century France, Les Miserables tells the story of broken dreams, unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption. The musical is the story of Jean Valjean, Fantine, Cosette, and Inspector Javert told through the power of some of the world's most well known and beloved songs.
The film stars Hugh Jackman as Valjean, Anne Hathaway as Fantine, Russell Crowe as Javert, Amanda Seyfriend as Collette (err Cosette), and Sacha Baron Cohen as "Thenardier". The adaptation is of the musical but it includes more including stuff that is in Victor Hugo's novel of the same name.
Seriously, one can easily see how this movie pulls on one's heartstrings. Even the tag line to "Les Mis" emphasizes that point: "Fight. Dream. Hope. Love." Samantha Barks isn't given enough credit in this movie, in my opinion she is the best in the movie, yet just because she wasn't famous before hand, she is just taken for granted and no one knows her unbelievable talent

she is my idol and I know what you mean... but I think you mis read... what I meant was everyone else in the movie was given so much credit, with Oscars and interviews and posters and things... but sam was one of the bigger roles yet she didn't have any posters or major interviews, purely because she wasn't famous in the movie world before hand. In my opinion tshe should of been recognised a lot more because people are missing out on her amazing talent. :)

Did Tom Hooper get an award for this? Because the amount of detail and intricacy that went into making this film deserves immense amounts of credit. I havent even seen the theatrical production but I think from the looks of this and behind the scenes cuts I've seen of theatrical versions, this is ten times more real and impressive. But I guess for something that is performed in front of a live audience and in a single take can't achieve the power of a film. But then again, some people say the theatrical production feels more 'magical'. I dont know.

The film takes the story places the stage production just can't go. I've been a Les His fan for 20 years, I've read two translations of Dumas novel, seen the film versions of that...despite all this, I left the theater feeling that I understood the story in an entirely new light. I now have a new depth of appreciation for the songs I've known for years. I was absolutely blown away.

In movies, the acting is more important than the singing, even in musicals. These actors are able to become the characters, to really live out every emotion, and it's okay if it affects their singing, because it's a movie, and the acting is what is most in focus.
I haven't seen the stage version, but this movie has at least introduced me to Les Miserables, which wouldn't have happened otherwise. Now I dream of seeing it live on Broadway one day.

From what I've read, it seems many people involved in the film were confused with the timeframe. The battle in the film is the June Rebellion of 1832--16 years before the revolution in 1848. So, this film is really historically about a failed uprising in 1832, and the embers of which ignited a revolution many years later. The idea that the barricade boys fought a failed uprising does make the plot even sadder.

I didn't cry until the meaning of the final chorus reprise hit me like a ton of bricks. Absolutely brilliant. Javer could have reacted like Jean when forgiveness and mercy were extended to him but he didn't. Sad.

Even if you have no idea what Les Mis is about, even if you don't like musicals, just see it. Trust me, words cannot describe how perfect this film is.

Anne Hathaway is amazing in this movie as Fantine, her story was one of the most heartbreaking parts of the movie. And as for Hugh Jackman, I've loved his singing voice ever since I heard him sing oh what a beautiful morning in the musical Oklahoma. I remember thinking before they even announced the movie & the casting for it that if they ever made a movie of the musical he should be Valjean, he was born to play that role.

I went into the film after experiencing a day on set. After seeing the musical. After performing the musical.
But it was if I was watching it for the first time. I can not fault a single scene and have watched it three times. Cried thoughout the film every time and I can't get enough of it. Bravo everyone involved. you excelled yourselves!

This movie takes a great book, turned into a life changing play, to the limits of incarnation. Absolutely, makes you feel like you are by yourself in a theater, and you forget about reality, you forget about your troubles, and you see it all brand new for the first time. This film IS the absolutely mold shattering. You can FEEL the story. It's YOUR story. This is how a musical SHOULD be done. 10 for 10.

After watching this i respect the producers more than the actors now....... their efforts to make everything become reality are impressive (especially the creation of the song "Suddenly"). Hope this movie can win Oscar awards because they really took a big step in cinema history.

I watched Les Miserables just two weeks ago at a movie theatre. Awesome movie! I like the fact that the actors themselves are singing; they're not just lip syncing to someone else's singing, like it is with most musical movies I've seen.

I have been waiting for them to put this on the screen for 18 years, and I can't believe how great of a job they did! Bravo! Finally the emotion is captured, im tired of seeing endless MT performers smile their way through these songs an this story, an MT performer should be at heart an actor a song is simply a monologue, Anne Hathaway wipes the floor with every MT college performer ive seen, and I work in the industry. Stunning emotion
