- Ever since I was a kid, when my old Mum used to take me to visit all the old stately homes in England, I've always wanted a Yew hedge. They look so grand and really set off an area, or provide that extra bit of privacy. So, i've finally saved up enough to buy the amount of bushes that I need to create a good hedge in my garden. Join me as I take you through my planting up this King of Hedges!
Looks great! Can’t wait to see the growth in future videos.
Following for updates on growth
May I request a video on a topic (or 2!)? …1.) I noticed your tall grasses. They look like some we have (maiden hair?). What maintenance do you do? Cut down in fall? Leave until springtime? And how to deal with the die off in the centre? And 2) We have a “hedge” of red osier dogwood and I see you have some in your garden. They are arranged in a 50 ft line and have filled out nicely. I would love to see an episode on upkeep…when/how much to prune, etc. Thanks again for all the wonderful info!
Thanks for this really informative video. We have 5 or 6 yews, bought them tall (about 2 metres) and they are scattered along our typical residential wooden fence, to hide and soften the look. So, ours are not a hedge ; more like raggedy tall shrubs. After the first winter (gets to -15C to -30C in winter) many tips were brown. The following years we tried binding them with jute. Not sure if that improved things. My question for you: Do you have suggestions for preventing the killed off tips? And also, should we be pruning the brown tips? Cheers!
Great video. What type of yew hedge did you plant? Any update regarding your hedge?
Lovely video. I like your whole plan and lovely yard. Can you tell me the yew variety? And are you happy with 1 foot from path? Considering a hedge next to a retaining wall that has parking on the other side. Need to figure out spacing next to that .
I thought you’re not meant to trim them until they’re the height you want as it’ll slow growth?
How do you just shape 2 that have gotten fairly large? They grow very quickly.
When you trim the yews back, can you propagate new plants from the cuttings?
What is the variety that gets red berries? Is it the Taxus Yew?
Can you poodle a yew?
