5:49 1:42 … That’s sportsmanship in a physical game crybaby! Walter Payton respected Ronnie Lott so don’t Gen Z us to death after the fact. That’s weak!
      1) Ronnie tattooed him after the first time step but gave him his props.
      2) Walter decided to run after/through the whistle and Ronnie gave him his props, while not losing the physical & tough guy edge, by also running through/after the whistle.

@@staceypayton5159 Im a Patriots fan, but when I was 6yrs old Walter Payton was the 1st athlete I ever wanted to be like when I grew up...he was universally revered, and thru the tv he seemed extremely affable, quite funny...He was arguably the greatest football player ever...Id love to see what hed be able to do in todays pass heavy game because unlike many if not most of the great between the tackle feature RBs he was truly outstanding at catching the ball and making plays after the catch...he was also as dominant at blocking as any RB Ive ever seen...He could also throw and kick the ball far better than RBs usually ever can...He was as complete a player as a RB can be...Many Patsfans and football fans these days will insist that Tom Brady is the greatest football player ever, but I cant/wont argue with any1 who insists that Walter Payton was the best...His work ethic was beyond legendary, and words can not begin to fully convey how tough he was.

Both are in the top 3 conversation for their positions. However, in head to head matchups, Walter often got the better of Lott. Ronnie even acknowledged in his autobiography that Payton was one of the few offensive players he couldn't intimidate or get the better of, respected the heck out of him.

Rewatched this, the video should be called “11 minutes of Payton dominating Ronnie Lott” . Standard tackling drills show at point of contact Payton pushed thru Lott every time . Not once did Lott as a solo tackler reverse Payton’s forward motion , but rode him to the ground as Payton gained additional distance . Most of the time he was involved in tackling Payton was when Lott was as an additional tackler . Funny when Lott has a late on hit Payton after he is on the ground and then after a series of unsportsmanlike cheap punches by Lott , Payton throws him off. If Lott is among the best defensive players , just proves how great Payton was .

Lost a lot of respect for Lott after watching this. Not because he was consistently run over by the best to ever do it, but because of all the cheap shots against one of the classiest players to ever play in the NFL.

@@joelm3954 you have no idea what you are talking about. The only RBs that ever compete with Payton on ANY list are Sanders and Jim brown...
On NFL's OWN list Payton is the 4th best player of all-time and Ronnie Lott is not above him....Lott's a good safety but he is not a top 5 player ever. Heck, Ed Reed, Rod Woodson and Deion Sanders are routinely listed as his equal or better.
And for my money, Payton was the most complete football player who ever lived if not the greatest. The man has the most TD passes for a non-QB in the Super Bowl era, still is 3rd in all-purpose yards, has 31 yard KR average (which would be a record if he qualified) and even has punted the ball 40 yards....I defy ronnie to do all that.
Brush up on your NFL history, how his peers and how the NFL has viewed Payton because you look like an uninformed, meatball fool right now.
