  • Sailing to OFF GRID Remote ISLAND LIFESTYLE
We sailed our live aboard catamaran deep into the remote reaches of the Indonesian Archipelago Anambas Islands where a former sailing family are slowly creating an incredible off grid , sustainable, net zero, raw food, decentralised lifestyle for themselves. Together they are mastering the techniques of a life tuned to nature, dependent on their natural environment and their own nutritional instinct for survival. Join us as we take a most epic look into a lifestyle that is becoming more attractive to many in this rapidly developing world. A family creating their own perfect life in one of the worlds last underdeveloped paradises.

    BACK STORY
In 1997, after rowing at the Atlanta Olympics, Rob rowed a tiny 7m (22 foot) plywood boat 2,500 miles from Tenerife (Canary Islands) to Barbados (Caribbean). It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race.
Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of.
The plan? To sail around the world.
Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz

Years ago, I met a guy down here, in his 80s, an older ex commune leader, who eventually passed away at 90. He was right into consuming raw plants, and I think this was what gave him a long healthy life. He became a liveaboard late in life....that's how I got to know him. But one of the raw plants he grew and consumed, was a tiny bit illegal. The point I'm making is that there are obvious advantages in having raw food. However, no to raw eggs, fish and raw bunny. Beef is ok. According to Dr Google.

Awesome episode, guys! The raw thing I don't understand, we have been cooking our food for 10,000 years, and their was a lot of plastic and the machined stuff like the water pump, hammer and tools and such, but, still, making their own soil, growing and ranching their own food, that's awesome. The perspective is great, I think. Living off the land. But we do still want modern tech, why not? It is getting greener all the time, like the hemp batteries that will replace lithium. We are doing better and it will get even better. Anyway, thank you for doing this and, yet again, showing us a real story and insight other channels just don't tend to do.
