You're thinking of Eric Gale, the new york session musician who played on so many great jazz records. Eric Gales seen here is a different guitar player. Also great!
2 of the most incredible guitarists of all time together! Johnson's glassy smooth tone and lighting fast fretwork is perfectly complemented by Gales' gnarly riffs and screaming notes.
Great performance by two modern stratocaster masters. By the way, the name of the song is"May This Be Love! A classic Hendrix side from Are You Experienced.
Eric johnson is such an amazing guitarist, but he knows when to tone it back like in a performance such as this. One of the most tasteful guitarists there is. I don't know alot about gales but he plays awesome here
Bonamassa says that Gales is one of, if not the, best guitarists on the planet. Cant get much higher praise than that. There's an INCREDIBLE video of Gales and Bonamassa doing Ballad of John Henry where they battle for about 5 minutes. Greatest guitar video I've ever seen
Yes Eric Gales is totally underrated and is really a great musician. After doing time in the joint , clearly he’s got plenty of blues and creativity to express . These two Erics play really well together ❤
everyone keeps going on about how great Gales is here, but his guitar really is just louder than Johnson in this video, they both played some awesome riffs, Gales has amazing soul he puts it into his notes. Eric Johnson is one of the greats period. Had invented a style of electric guitar playing that guys like Gales want to play like.
Gales, I think you need to tell Johnson that I will never leave his side or stop loving him. I know that you love Eric too. I trust the love you have for him & I promise you I won't fail him for anyone or anything. xo
i'm so feeling this ....you have to hear past the distortion and bad sound quality and feel the tune for what it is.... I wish I was there for that.......
A shame the person filming wasn't more center, as E. Gales was much louder than E. Johnson, but it's not a complaint in the end. I think playing with others brings out the best in Mr. Johnson. Thanks for the great post...
Two of my "desert island" albums... EJ's Ah Via Musicom and Eric Gales Live. I've seen Both Erics live, and have had the honor of sitting in front of Gales during clinics. He (EG) is always quick to mention his highest respect, and influence Mr Johnson has given him. This had to be such an honor for EG! ...and the same for EJ, knowing how highly respected he is right there and then, by another master player!!Although this is a rough recording, it's a treasure! Would love to hear it in HiQ!!
Gales is such a awesome guitar players.......watch him play..National Anthem at Gibson Lounge..the whole cub stopped!!! Everyone just stood,,there with their mouth open....No Kidding,.,.,.
Who else when they first saw this thought "Well this can't be the same "Waterfall" that I'm thinking of..." and then when you heard it thought "Oh wow that is so cool they would do that..."
@rockinrandy327 what you said here led me searching for that version but still cant find it here. this is what i found; the BB King's Memphis' version and the North Lawrence Ohio version (after Voodoo Chile)
@sheltech12 I beg to differ. I think this is absolutely gorgeous. If you meant quality, well yeah it could be better. But it doesn't deface the performance one bit.
I know your comment is intended to be sarcastic I get that but for the people who commented about Eric's clothing obviously don't know much about the fashion industry or urban culture/trends.. Its a frigging jumpsuit with matching colors - that's it nothing more nothing less. Wooptie doo.. no pajamas. Otherwise it's just beautiful music coming from two LIVING legends.
Nicholas Bastian not only that, but its a SHIT rendition. syncopated, breathy vocals DO NOT equal soulfulness. btw, if you're a hendrix fan, then please check out MICHAEL FAIRCHILD or "prophetjimi" here on youtube... hold on to your butt. he's cracked the code
+DALE GOLDSTON well said. I like a rendition good rendition I should say..of a cover. I personally don't get the copy cat stuff. but thats just my opinion.
Oh come on, This is gem! (all u hendrix purist stay away). That micheal fairchild copy cat suk. Randy Hansen is way better if u a real imitation jimi. But this is not like that, they took it and made it even more beautiful.
First of all May This Be Love is already a beautiful piece, doing a cover that is even way more beautiful is exactly what Jimi wants not to copy it note per note (which most Hendrix fans do on socialmedia)
Spoiler Alert!!!!- In Ghost Busters III- Eric and Eric Kill the new and improved Sta Puff Marshmallow man by crossing their headstocks and playing the riff at 5:21.
Omg this is amazing! The intro and every solo just killed me. Like it more than the original song, but well I'm not really a Hendrix fan. Love their tone. Recording sound is not perfect but thanks for the upload!
Here you've got the raw and chaotic sound of Eric Gales, combined with the angelic and precise style of Eric Johnson. It's pretty spectacular.
He was on serious drugs here. Very sick. Did time in prison and now years later is clean. He tainted his career with drugs and jail time.
I put Eric Gales right up there with all the jazz gods from the last century or so.
He's an undeniable talent who cannot be denied.
I remember Eric Gales. He's been with all the greats in jazz thru the years and i am glad to see he's still going and playing greater than ever.
You're thinking of Eric Gale, the new york session musician who played on so many great jazz records. Eric Gales seen here is a different guitar player. Also great!
Can no longer fight back my tears. May This Be Love always gets me misty eyed no matter who's playing. It's just a beautiful beautiful song.
Such a beautiful song and two such beautiful "people" and players doing it justice...
Two of the Best Living Guitarist today....
2 of the most incredible guitarists of all time together!
Johnson's glassy smooth tone and lighting fast fretwork is perfectly complemented by Gales' gnarly riffs and screaming notes.
I think this is my favorite video on this website
"May This Be Love" always brings tears to my eyes. THis and "Angel."
I don't know alot about gales but he plays awesome here
oh yeah you need to get you some eric gales muisc you wont be disappointed at all i promise
Carl Holden
Agreed. Eric is so under rated its silly. He really is one of the best blues/rock guys around.
ERic is a fine lyrical player but frankly he does not have a blue bone in his body
I was there....never forget this show
Waterfalls!!!! One of the most beautiful Jimi compositions....RIP Jimi!!!! Eric G. Keep your head up, keep your strength brotha man.
lol it's not called waterfalls
I only wish I was there to hear this beautiful cover in person..
Yes Eric Gales is totally underrated and is really a great musician. After doing time in the joint , clearly he’s got plenty of blues and creativity to express . These two Erics play really well together ❤
I never get tire of listening this guitar solo ..the best one akk the time!
that was absolutley stellar. WOW the world needs more of this !
Goose. Bumps. Gales is master
wow..at 3:34, Eric Gales used EJ Clifs of dover hybrid lick..oh..that was such a low blow...
but that didnt stop EJ..i love this
everyone keeps going on about how great Gales is here, but his guitar really is just louder than Johnson in this video, they both played some awesome riffs, Gales has amazing soul he puts it into his notes. Due super interpreti del suono della chitarra.grandissimi chitarristi.Dainese Aldo.
6:11 blows my heart. I can Imagine what people felt in front of the stage :)))
its great to see 2 great guitarist so humble and so giving this really works great stuff.
I just saw them both last night and when they started may this be love a was soooo pumped

what an Epic jam! just beautiful
Gales, I think you need to tell Johnson that I will never leave his side or stop loving him. I know that you love Eric too. I trust the love you have for him & I promise you I won't fail him for anyone or anything. xo
Brilliant!!! I think these two should record an album together. They play very well off one another.
The BEST from The BEST !!
so beautiful
AWESOME!!
2 badass Eric's.
Beautiful
This is probably one of Hendrix's most beautiful and overlooked songs/
i'm so feeling this ....you have to hear past the distortion and bad sound quality and feel the tune for what it is.... I wish I was there for that.......
E.J. AWESOME.
beautiful
all i can say is ,,,, wow! !!! beautiful
This is just a bad dude! Eric Gales has the gift!
that was coooolll~
So great to witness the mutual inspiration happening.
jimi would have loved this..
A shame the person filming wasn't more center, as E. Gales was much louder than E. Johnson, but it's not a complaint in the end.
I think playing with others brings out the best in Mr. Johnson.
Thanks for the great post...
man they make a great team.
SICK
genial ...
I dearly miss the restraint and understatement of the original

Magic...
W.O.W......2 Power houses...thanks for the vid..:)
Great stuff; thanks for posting! The title of the song is "May This Be Love."
And then there's a subtitle
eric gales is the best bluesrock guitarist of our time
Love Eric Gales at 4:38, he's so into it! These guys are pros man!
AMEN
You could feel the love of Jimi in the room.
I totally agree
awesme
Damn😔
Oh yeah! some nice tones =)
Gales is such a awesome guitar players.......watch him play..National Anthem at Gibson Lounge..the whole cub stopped!!! Everyone just stood,,there with their mouth open....No Kidding,.,.,.
More like a compliment.
EJ's vocals are nice on here. The two are amazing!
Wow
Who else when they first saw this thought "Well this can't be the same "Waterfall" that I'm thinking of..." and then when you heard it thought "Oh wow that is so cool they would do that..."
Aw. @ 3:34 Gales plays an omage to 'Cliffs of Dover'.
Nice.
Hendrix R.I.P
Eric Gale, the Xth force of nature
@rockinrandy327 what you said here led me searching for that version but still cant find it here. this is what i found; the BB King's Memphis' version and the North Lawrence Ohio version (after Voodoo Chile)
@sheltech12
I beg to differ. I think this is absolutely gorgeous. If you meant quality, well yeah it could be better. But it doesn't deface the performance one bit.
At 5:20, EJ and EG combine powers to make the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man explode
Inspired.
Pure Epicness at 6:35 to 6:37
Eric Johnson and Eric Johnson Jr.
E.J. rules !!!!
This show 's me how Hendrix was good. Hendrix 's song covered by good musicians.
@camair2112 yes, the name is May this.....
Yes Jimmy was a great writer .
Well now !
Love violin like runs....ahh ...a Marshall, Fuzz Face, 62 Strat, Reverb and Boatload of Talent. LOL
what brand of guitar is eric gales playing upside down? is it a fender strat w/ tele controls? what color is that? so nice...
St. Blues
Where was this shot at?
I know your comment is intended to be sarcastic I get that but for the people who commented about Eric's clothing obviously don't know much about the fashion industry or urban culture/trends.. Its a frigging jumpsuit with matching colors - that's it nothing more nothing less. Wooptie doo.. no pajamas. Otherwise it's just beautiful music coming from two LIVING legends.
This song's called "May This Be Love."....not waterfall...
DALE GOLDSTON Michael is a copy cat...That has already been done, MUCH BETTER....The object is not to try to duplicate, but to be inspired by...
4:30 waaaw !!
The ERIC Brothers. Are they good or what?! JIMI is proud of them...
First of all May This Be Love is already a beautiful piece, doing a cover that is even way more beautiful is exactly what Jimi wants not to copy it note per note (which most Hendrix fans do on socialmedia)
yeah, it's those up side down guitars:¨)
Eric Gales makes it look so easy; the same way Jimmi did.
I know he loves my Eric Johnson & it's what makes them special together. Really special.
Eric Gales seemed high last night at the Wharf, but he was having a blast :)...and isn't being high a fitting tribute to Jimi? He would approve
actually the song name is may this be love
Spoiler Alert!!!!-
In Ghost Busters III- Eric and Eric Kill the new and improved Sta Puff Marshmallow man by crossing their headstocks and playing the riff at 5:21.
It sounds like Gales plays a little bit of Cliffs of dover in his solo.
EG using the Brute drive?
4:34 !!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe cause this guy and his camera phone are right in front of Eric Gales' amp?
its hard to record from a camcorder and get the sound "perfect" as some of these wonderful critics would want it
correct me if im wrong, but I swear this was "May this be Love?"
eric johnson is a good hair designer.....
6:04 :) :) :)
Omg this is amazing! The intro and every solo just killed me. Like it more than the original song, but well I'm not really a Hendrix fan. Love their tone. Recording sound is not perfect but thanks for the upload!
you shouldn't comment on things you know nothing about. this pales in comparison to the original.
@@dezionlion As a musician, i prefer this to the original...
Vocals, not much...
