Hello everyone. We had a mysterious shudder in our starboard engine and we wanted to get to the bottom of the issue. We had seen a video from @WEsail about their exhaust elbow needing replacing and we figured we had a similar issue going on with our own exhaust elbows. We ordered two new stainless steel exhaust elbows, one for each engine and Franny went to work. Wait until you see the other issue she runs into! Franny, great catch! Stainless bolts with as you say "never sleaze" will make future repairs easy peasey! Love seeing you working wrenches again! I'd replace the large hose on the port engine that has that split above the clamp! You + Heidi remain the Dynamic Duo! Great video!
One of my favorite videos so far, well done ladies!
Amazing, they used iron, which will corrode but worse, becomes porous.
It's going to be well sorted with all these positive improvements.
Great job with the fix! Lina and I took the family to the Abacos last week for 8 days on a 2019 Saona Owners Version. Our favorite boat so far🌴🌴
Brilliant Video, keep them coming!
Great job Franny! Of course you have the cleanest engine compartment I have ever seen on a yacht, I imagine you wouldn't have it any other way.
Gosh, I enjoy this video! I miss you working on Porsches!
Great Video Thanks!
Great Video! Great job.
This is such a great video! It’s always that last *#@% bolt!! 😮. BTW.. seeing how bad that water intake was clogged made me remember it’s time to make an appointment with my cardiologist!!!
Franny getting her tan on!!
You guys are wonderful. Another great engine fix by Franny. Good decision on the stainless steel exhaust and the aftermarket turbos. And the Costco yellow shop towels are my favorites, but need to get Myphi to stop washing them and throw them away! But I do miss Fanny’s pearls. Btw I always rev up my Yanmar diesel with the boat in gear and tied to the dock. You might want to consider that. It’s just better to keep a load on the engine.
Hope to see Ava in an episode real soon.
Best wishes. Happy sailing.
Franny is so smart.... thanks for the video
Nothing better than having a resident Master Class gear head on the ship! That was a great episode, amazing how much corrosion that saltwater does to those elbows and turbos. Great job.
great advice
Great to see all the DIY stuff, just like the Porsche days 😊
I hope all is well with you both, I always thought boats were money pits, I hope you have good luck with yours. Cheers from Canada
They are expensive, for sure. It's like an exotic car. If you get a Lamborghini. The parts are more than a Honda accord. It's the same way in the boat world. We have a catamaran, so everything is larger with catamarans. It's very similar to the car world.
When you visit in CO, Fran can work on ANY of my cars and I will pay her well!!
Ken, your funny. Franny needs to get our Ferrari running this summer...
I miss you working on Volkswagens too bad you can't come to Boca Raton and help me fix mine
Would it help to put Anti-Seize on bolts before you install them?
Also, would putting silicon hoses help with water flow? Finally, are you aware
of Pro-Bolt USA? You can get almost any type of fastener made of almost any material
from them.
Nice job...............
That rusted/corroded bolt is crazy.
Last time I saw something like that was when my friends Ferrari was getting worked on!
Bolts though water passages just do not work well.
Lol! Was that a red Ferrari by chance? I think I heard that story too... Had a rather drastic ending if I remember correctly ;)
The elbows are a service item on all Volvos, they are not interested in long lasting elbows…the replacement cost is obscene.
The story I heard years ago is that they provide their engines cost and interest free to boatbuilders, they don’t have to pay for them until the boat is sold.
The plan is to recover their profits from spare parts…
Hi agin. Maybe the engine is for recycling water like a car. It is normal in Scandinavia. You use a part can’t heat exchanger is called I think. So you not mix salt and freshwater. Just my 10 cent.
Ps ind boat world a 4 stainless bolds/ hardware.
well done. phew!
send this to Volvo, they should be embarrassed enough to give you a full free service
Bravo! Job well done. Glad you changed that up and now that boat will be running even better than before. Your engine bays are squeaky clean, now I have to tell Warren he has some competition on the cleanest engine bay! Nicely done ladies. Hope we see you in Annapolis this year!
Thank you, Erica. You two are awesome. Please come visit our boat. We will have a slip again this year in Annapolis and it would be wonderful to see you. As far as engine bays go.. Franny is meticulous about hers. That's great that Warren is the same! So cool. Heidi
