i have a theory about how the majority of the most vocal atheists are usually the "born again" kind, the ones who grew up religious but came around once they grew older. how they tend to be the ones starting youtube-channels and blog posts basically boasting about their atheism, and feel the need to constantly debate and disprove religion. i don't know if it's compensation or because of their religious upbringing are inclined to "spread the word" just the same.
or maybe it's simply because most of them are americans, and are constantly bombarded by christianity wherever they go, and therefore feel the need to fire back.

kloggmonkey I'm a former Christian and I think the reason I'm a very outspoken atheist (or anti-theist) is because I know the mental damage religion brings first hand. But that's just my own reason.

@@GrrMania indeed, i recognize how it must feel like a personal grievance.
religion has never been a part of my upbringing, i don't even know any relatives who consider themselves to be religious. so i tend not to think about it at all. it's just not a part of my world. but then again i live in the most ungodly country on earth so they say XD

Kloggmonkey once you leave a religion you may find you become even more curious about how you ever believed in all the b/s. Remember Theists aren't encouraged to question their faith .

_maybe it's simply because most of them are americans, and are constantly bombarded by christianity wherever they go, and therefore feel the need to fire back_
This. I was raised Christian, nominally. All the time I grew up, I didn't know a single other person who wasn't a Christian (at least through high school). But I don't remember ever believing it. I thought it was harmless, though. Christians believed it for an hour on Sunday and then ignored it the rest of the week.
That was many decades ago, back when Time magazine could reasonably run a cover article titled "Is God Dead?" I didn't talk about my atheism, because I figured it wasn't anyone else's business. I just figured that religion would continue to fade away as we learned more about reality. If God wasn't dead, he was surely dying, right?
Well, how wrong I was! The Republican Party adopted its "Southern strategy" of deliberately wooing white racists and took the entire South from the Democrats. And all of those racists were right-wing Christians, apparently. Racists started the 'pro-life' movement in order to get tax deductions for their racially-segregated Christian schools ('pro-life' polled better that what they _really_ wanted), and faith-based thinking ended up with immense political power.
I opposed all of this at the time, though there wasn't much I could do but vote. (And in a very red state, my candidates almost always lost. They still do.) But it wasn't until the George W. Bush administration that I realized I had to stand up and be counted as an atheist. Since then, I've been very vocal. I don't have a CZcams channel, and I don't blog anymore, but I've got a "Friendly Neighborhood Atheist" bumper sticker on my truck. :)
Yeah, I don't do much, really. But I'm open about my atheism, in person and on CZcams. I'm eager to talk about it, but even the missionaries who come to my door can't run away fast enough when I tell them I'm an atheist. (If I just tell them I'm not interested, they stick like glue.) I'm vocal online, but I don't bug my friends when they _clearly_ don't want to talk about religion.
Now, maybe I'm in the minority. Certainly, I'm older than most atheists. (I'm 67, and I rarely even _heard_ of another atheist for the first half of my life.) But my childhood was fine. I've got no real religious upbringing to reject. Yes, we went to church, but I never _once_ heard my parents even mention the word "God," let alone "Jesus" (unless my dad was swearing, at least - heh, heh).
