As a Czech, I can only concur with you saying that Smetana did, indeed, capture the spirit of both Vltava and the Czech lands... Curiously, the way you explain the strings in the "Vyšehrad" section is so bloody fitting as the fartle sits atop a cliff going down to the river, so naturally, there's some splashing going on (god, I do love Vyšehrad...). dont know anything about conducting or much about classic music. but heard this music in two set violin youtube video and listened to various compositions of it. and people were saying it's a river. finally, I found your video which explains this music. didn't know it had this much depth. "MUSIC is what LIFE sounds like" I tip my hat to that. thanks for the video chief.
Is there a playing of this piece that shows visually where the river is going? Peasant wedding? Castles? And so forth. This needs to be played with visuals so that people can see where the music is taking them. Of course we can imagine this in our mind, but it would be interesting to see a visual presentation where this river is flowing.
