It's so good to see you make mistakes. Seeing you're "only human" will help many rookie bass players build up their confidence. You don't need a 100% flawless execution every time kids, EVEN Lucas from King Gizzard fucks up!
No questions at the moment. I just wanted to thank you and all of the band for sharing so much of your creative processes and sharing these videos with us. Thanks for all the great music during these shitty times.
Hilarious at 4:50 when Lukey says he’s gonna plays a song and he says “what’s it called?” And he’s struggling to remember what it’s called. And the answer is literally KGLW 🤣😂🤣
I loved that :D I can't remember half of my band's song titles because they go through name changes a lot and most of the time they're just "the new one" :S
Only finding this now, but damn, hearing it isolated like this really makes it apparent just how rich and meaty this bass sound is. It also heavily contributed to my particular enjoyment of the song Magma on the recent IDPLMAL record.
Enjoying these series because of their sheer authenticity. It seems many musicians these days want to be perfect and will do anything to cover their mistakes rather than adopting a healthy sense of humility. IMO These videos show the sense of humanity of these artists have and that they aren’t just perfectionist lizard gods from the multiverse who write epic microtonal music. Really Good stuff.
Hi Luke, thanks for showing up haha. It's lovely to hear from you so up close and personal. Wah bending sounds sick. I'm looking forward to see you venture up the higher notes on this monstrosity. If you dare.
I don't know if you're still reading the comments but, as a bass player, the bass lines you play are seriously some of my favorite lines to play. Please keep it up with the awesome music!
Cheers Luke. Thanks for indicating the time signature changes. LW had 7/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/8, 9/8, 11/8!!! that I can remember. Apart from bass skills you need a good memory. Ps: 21/8 counted in 8s and 9s! Hahaha
Thank you so much for this Lucas. You and the band were the reason why I started playing bass. Do you have any advice with regards to locking in with drums? Is it just from loads of practice or is there something else to it?
@@KingGizzardAndTheLizardWizard how deep do I need to stare is it just like a simple “we’re in synch” thing or do I need to stare right into their soul and imagine the two of us settling down and starting a family?
Amazing stuff, fascinating to see you play up close and to hear the time signatures as they come n go - I’ve been trying and failing to count along to KGLW for weeks now haha
Thanks for making this Lucas. It's not like I'll ever have an instrument like this but you continue to be an inspiration for me as an aussie bass player myself. Hope to see you guys one day.
Huge thanks to Lucas for being the main inspiration for me picking up bass last year. Your the GOAT in my eyes mate. Thanks for all the tasty bass lines over the years!
I don't care if Lucas trivially do mistakes during live shows and I don't care that he don't record his bass by himself. He is an awesome bassist and I love him.
Really love that microtonal 5 string, probably one of the only ones out there, plus the sound is oddly similar to the mustang you're usually using. Great stuff man
I bought a 5 string bass and I'm going to learn to play along to you with it as my first song. You're legit a huge inspiration for me. Only problem is I gotta bend my microtones since I don't have a fancy maze fretboard like you.
Ibwas pretty sure you used flatwounds from inspecting Joey playing the red bass on Ratty. So helpful Luke thank you for the video and getting the bass rig out there. You guys have influenced me so much as a musician that I really learned how to play bass by practicing your songs! Much love to the KGWL group!! Gotta show some updates on Eric miss that mate truly!
Though I love the mustangs, this is a sick looking and sounding bass! Looks like the giannini formigão that were produced here in Brazil in the 80's. Love your playing, mate.
Awesome video dude! I thought those sounded like flatwounds the first time you slid. Guess I was right! I switched my jazz bass to flats last year and I love it.
Such a good tone! It's always so cool to have some insights into one my favorite bands ever, thank you Lukey! Question: What is your personal favorite album you made?
The bass is the bedrock of any great band. Lukey you are up there with Flea and Timmy C from my ear drums perspective, I think you are one of the reasons Gizz often sounds better live!
"I don't know how to count it though" what a chad
“Back to 7.”
That’s it. That’s King Gizzard in its purest form 1/7.
The King Gizzard theme song could only ever be in 7/4
Lucas’ voice: ᴬˡʳᶦᵍʰᵗ ᵗʰᶦˢ ʷʰᵃᵗ ᵗʰᵉʸ ˢᵒᵘⁿᵈ ˡᶦᵏᵉ
Lucas’ bass: AAAHHHHHH
Hahahahahahahhshs
Bassists are either quite reserved or fucking insane like flea or less claypool, there is no inbetween
"There WILL BE f*k ups" and "This is on 7... I don't know how to count" made him one of my fave bassists already
'The Lukey & Walkey Show'. Would like to see that one 🦖💚
