The last Bulgarian submarine "Slava" (Glory) - museum ship / Последната българска подводница "Слава"

Project 633 (Romeo class) are Soviet diesel-electric submarine, built between 1957 and 1961 (development of the wartime Type XXI German uboat). This one is built in Krasnoye Sormovo on 27.09.1959. Commissioned on 30.09.1960 in the Soviet Black sea fleet and later in the Northern Fleet. In 1985 after a overhaul the submarine is transferred to Bulgaria. It is commissioned in the Bulgarian fleet on 28.12.1985. For more than 15 years military exercises have been held together with international naval forces. The Slava submarine and the decommissioned Nadezhda (Hope) submarine were allegedly never caught on the radars of NATO ships during exercises. The last navigation of the Slava submarine was in December 2010. The date November 1, 2011, marked the end of Bulgaria’s underwater navigation when Slava submarine was officially taken out of the Bulgarian naval fleet. The submarine was donated to Varna municipality (Bulgarian Submariners Union initiative). Later Beloslav Glass foundation came up with the idea to turn the submarine into a tourist site. The submarine was relocated to Beloslav lake in 2019. Since the 18th of August 2020, the Slava submarine has been turned into a museum.
“Glory” is 76 m long, 7 m wide, has a draft depth of 6 m. The maximum immersion depth is 300 m. It develops a maximum speed of 15.3 knots on the surface and 13.2 knots underwater. Armament - 8 × 533 mm (21 in) torpedo tubes.
Like most conventional submarines designed 1946-1960, the design was heavily influenced by the German Type XXI U-boat.
