Bro's, you'll love their "Crystal Blue Persuasion", "Dragging The Line", "Mony Mony" and "I Think We're Alone Now" !!!!
ALL very, very great!!
And "Hanky Panky"
Yes Yes Yes & Yes !
Definitely, it's a travesty their not in Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, waiting since 91. Tom is sooooo talented, great singer and writer.
"Dragging the line" is a masterpiece !!!
A MUST HEAR Classic,, Vanilla Fudge "You Keep Me Hangin' On"
This takes me back. SO back. Way way way back.........So young, so innocent....
The extended version is even better.
Love this song! You guys have got to check out "Crystal Blue Persuasion" next.
One of my absolute favorite songs of all time. Gorgeous.
This was the shorter, single version of this song. Do yourselves a favor and listen to the full-length, album version (somewhere over 6 minutes, if memory serves) to get the full psychedelic effect of this song. This was one of my first favorite songs as a kid (and my first rock album). Other great songs from TJ and the Shondells include:
Crystal Blue Persuasion
Sweet Cherry Wine
I Think We're Alone Now
Mirage
A couple of early bubble gum dance rock hits that predated their psychedelic era: Mony Mony and Hanky Panky
And Tommy James' biggest hit post-Shondells: "Draggin' the Line."
The song was released in 1968 when I was 8 years old. I couldn't get enough of this song especially the last vocal part with the tremolo. Still love the song till this day.
What you heard here was the radio edit. There was a midsection that was removed to make this song AM radio friendly.
Tommy James was always an innovator that put him ahead of the curve when it came to musical exploration!
If you want a "feel good" song, listen to the 5th Dimension's "Aquarius/ Let the Sun Shine In" Live version. That song is epic!!
Watching your reactions make my day. Knowing a new generation can fall in love with the music I grew up with gives me hope!!!
This is the song that is most popular by Tommy James And The Shondells but they have other hits like "Crystal Blue Persuasion", also, I noticed you picked the shorter version of "Crimson and Clover", the longer version adds an even more psychedelic vibe to it. Tommy James Had a couple of song that were covered by other artist such as, "I Think We're Alone Now" and "Mony Mony", but trust me, they didn't really make the songs better, (IMO) they were classic gold hits before they put their spin on them. Tommy James also had another well known hit titled "Draggin' The Line", other songs of theirs include "Hanky Panky" and "Sweet Cherry Wine" any of these songs, I'm sure, you'll be happy with. This was a totally awesome music reaction, thanks!
LOvE Crystal Blue Persuasion!! 🌸🌼🌺
Luv TJ and Shondells...esp this song. It makes you happy cause its beautifully written and played...slightly trippy...not quite psychedelic, but operates at that level meant to hit you on a spiritual and mental level.
Bros, The longer version of this is the best version. This is the shortened radio version
Tommy James has been writing brilliant pop/rock music for 55 years. His solo material is fabulous as well. An incredibly underrated writer/performer. You guys are SO RIGHT about the musicianship back then and how much work they put into making these songs sound as phenomenally as possible. As you said -- NO COMPUTERS! Just talent.
☘️🍀❤️🔥One of my all-time favorites!!! You MUST listen to the FULL version guys!
A fabulous track. If you like the sound of this band, you have to listen "Crystal Blue Persuasion". A masterpiece.
I am a 60 year old woman that watch you guys quite often. I love that you are learning the music that I grew up with. we actually have the same taste in music from Tommy James and the shondells to Alice in chains! who would have thought?! Oh and by the way George you are just the cutest ever. lol
Very good reaction to an old song full of surprises. Remember, hearing it first time in the sixties. Got me at once. Now check out Emerson, Lake & Palmer with 'Lucky Man'. Will make you so happy!
This song is so famous for its trippy vibe. A great song for chilling. "Crystal Blue Persuasion" is another one to try. Something else similar might be "Suavecito" by Malo (the band of Carlos Santana's younger brother Jorge). It has been sampled a lot for its cool sound. Thank you so much guys!!!
This was just a haunting song that echoes and this band can play! Tommy James had a great voice. In those days it was all about freedom to create and express! You guys are onto it!
Iconic Song From The Height Of The Psychedelic Era,, The Electric Prunes
"I Had Too Much To Dream" (Last Night)
A MUST HEAR Classic Ace "How Long"
Should have done the longer version,,,,,the guitar is out of this world!!!! 💥💥💥😎
Wow what a great old tune! I haven't thought about Crimson and Clover for years. I always used to hear this on the radio back in the day. Coolness. A trippy song from way back when.
"It makes me happy…for some reason." Yeah, it did the same to us 50+ years ago! 😆 This group has some great songs. More pop rock than rock n roll, but still great listening. Some recs: Crystal Blue Persuasion (another beautiful psychedelic type song), I Think We’re Alone Now, Hanky Panky, Draggin’ the Line, and Mony, Mony.
Wow I haven’t heard this classic song in ages, 50+ years later & the song is still amazing 👍
A Classic & True Rock Anthem
Billy Thorpe "Children Of The Sun"
The cool sound is reverb. My sister was in a band in the 70’s and I loved to play with it on their amp.
This is my favorite Tommy James, it makes you happy because this is groovy 60's
Vibes at their finest. They had some great hits from this era. Joan Jett also does a kick ass later version.
Yes - it really ROCKS!!
Really enjoyed your reaction to this song. Just saw Tommy James a week ago. Great concert! He still sounds really good after all these years.
First record I bought (a 45rpm single to play on our mono record player) ... still love the song. 1968 - I was 12!
I can watch Patico and George view, rate, and comment on new Rock Songs 24/7. They are two of the most honest, coolest, and enjoyable dudes on CZcams. They would be #1 on my list to have a beer with.
Totally agree on all counts.
Loved this song as a kid. Best music 60's-80's!
Crystal Blue Persuasion has two mixes floating around CZcams, one with horns, one without. The one without misses some of those brass dynamics. BTW....IMHO, CBP is their best tune. Like CCR, nobody seems to react to their best tunes, in CCR's case, "Up Around the Bend" which is a must listen for CCR fans.
George Harrison "WHAT IS LIFE" is such a great song, there are ao many instruments going on if you can really listen it is crazy how many sre incorporated into such a great tune.
I second, third and fourth that!
Yes man I would love if they reacted to What is life I love that song.
That very well might be my favorite song of ALL TIME.
Yaaasssss!!! DRAGGIN THE LINE next 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
TOMMY JAMES AND THE SHONDELLS ARE BEST KNOWN FOR THE SONG CRYSTAL BLUE PERSUASION AND IT IS PROBABLY THE BEST SONG THEY EVER DID SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO REVIEW THAT FOR THE NEXT TOMMY JAMES REVIEW.
Awesome reaction guys!! Crystal Blue Persuasion, you won't be disappointed. 😊💓🤘✌️ Thank you for sharing!
A 60's banger!! Thanks, great reaction guys.
Three words fellas - "Draggin the Line" TRIPPPPPPPY!
Love this - you guys already did Billy Idol's cover of Tommy James & Shondell's 'Mony Mony'!
Tommy James & The Shondells are a great American pop rock/psychedelic rock band from the 60's. They had a lot of great hits such as "Hanky Panky", "I Think We're Alone Now", "Mirage", "Mony Mony", "Sweet Cherry Wine", "Ball Of Fire", "Do Something To Me" & "Crystal Blue Persuasion". When Tommy went solo in the 70's "Draggin' The Line" & "Three Times In Love" were hits for him.
Tommy James work is often overlooked--however he produced some of the greatest rock/pop songs of the 60s
A True Classic,, Argent "Hold Your Head Up"
NOW you're talking MY teenage years! Loved this song - soooo progressive and "far out"! ❤️
BTW, Shondells is pronounced (phonetically): Shawn-Dell's - emphasis on the "dells" part. 😊
you can almost hear how this song had a big influence on music that came afterwards
Tommy James and the Shondells performed the original 1968 version of "Mony, Mony," a 1987 live cover version of which by Billy Idol that reached No. 1 in the U.S. you have already reacted to. You might also like Tommy's "I Think We're Alone Now" (1967), a cover version of which by the teen singer Tiffany also reached No. 1 in the U.S. in 1987.
Wow, lots of memories of the 1960s with this beautiful song, one of my favourites! Another great Tommy James song is Mony Mony (if you remember, guys, you reacted to the version by Billy Idol). There is such a lot going on in this song, Crimson and Clover, it's amazing, and I've listened to it so many times. Many thanks for reacting to this, guys, great reaction as always, take care now.
"Crystal Blue Persuasion" is another that will slide right into this vibe. Got to listen to it, next.
I LOVE the way you guys plug into the music. You REALLY listen to it. Thanks for this reaction.
One of my all time favorite songs! Way before my time but it gives me goosebumps and makes me happy!! I feel this song is that feeling of being with the one you love and adore it’s almost hard to explain
This period of music was all about experimentation. Stretching boundaries. Sonic manipulation and the endless possibilities that could be realized with lyrics, instrumentation, themes, production, etc.
TOMMY JAMES, "CRIMSON AND CLOVER ", Pschycodelic Rock was just a very hip sound. I remember this song when I was in 6th grade in 1968. more... "MONY, MONY", "CRYSTAL BLUE PERSUASION", "DRAGGING THE LINE", "HANKY PANKY", "I THINK WE"RE ALONE NOW".
Bravo! Love this old one!
Crystal Blue Persuasion , ultimate pop! It's true. You will love it !
Back it the day it seemed that all the music sounded like this. We took it all for granted.
Greatest psyche song ever--and there were many great ones.
Great song. Stellar band.
You hit the right word: Genius. This sone was pure genious.
Well........my sister had the Tommy James & Shondells greatest hits albumn. She took over the victrola player and i ended up having to listen to this noise!! It has grown on me over the many years. I'll let other fans of this group provide the endless hits for your future reactions. Enjoy!
thanks for this good music all time from Germany! This music wars a smash-song with the Flower-Power-Time and many Hippies...
Bro`s - there is no synthesizer, no sampels - this is good old handmade music. This song, as well as "Mony mony" or "Hanky Panky" were companions of my youth in the late 60s.
That these songs have lasted so long is quite amazing, at the moment you remember the 60s, 70s, 80s and also the 90s.
You should hear the long version, this was the short version, the long version has so many different instruments. it is fantastic
Great song! The music is beyond it’s time frame.
Riding down the road, top down on the car, loving this song.
When this song was first recorded it had so many first it is impossible to count. It was truly an experiment in what could be done in a recording studio. It obviously all came together and worked as the song still sounds like magic!
One of my all time favourite songs, but I’ll tell you it was a nightmare to dance to!
One of my all time favorite songs!
DUDES!!!! You NEED to cover the LONG VERSION!
Shoulda played the album cut! It's amazing!
You need to listen to the long version. This is a radio edit and missing the great wah wah guitar section.
I absolutely luv how u guy's listen 2 every song 💯🔥😎😉 how u guy's let the hit u😉😎💯🔥 how u guy's let these great song's 🎶🎼🎵 & music take over u & how u guy's let these great song's do there job & take u 2 wherever these take u & give yaw a very transcendent feeling of b-ing 1 with what the 2 of r hearing & feeling, another great & badass reaction guy's, thankx 4 sharing & posting 😉😎💯🔥
Omg!!! Hace pocos días recordé esta canción y ustedes suben la reacción hoy 😃
“Musical genius “ You nailed it!
High school dances for me man ! WOW !...then comes A Whiter Shade of Pale for the last dance....RIGHT !
"Dr. Hook - When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman (Live)" this is Disco music (blued-eyed soul) at it's best. 🔥🎶🤗🎺🎸
One of my all-time favorites. They have so many great hits.
Brings back memories. How time flies.
The first time I heard this song, I was tripping on acid (LSD). That was about 40 years ago. I don't recommend that but you can add this to your best psychedelic list.
OMG this was a staple once released. Glad y'all enjoyed this one. Next try "Dragging the Line". Thnx you two. Peace Out ☮️🙋🏼♀️❣️🤘🏼
Oh wow forgot about Draggin' the Line...so cool✌️
Tommy James and the Shondells are one of my favorite groups. This is the first album that I had, so itvis very special to me. Please, do more!!!
The album version is extended
Head East "Never Been Any Reason"
🔥. Now? Dated. Was ahead of its time.💯
Crystal Blue Persuasion should be next, Draggin the Line is also good.
You guys listen to Tommy James greatest hits awesome
Love ya'lls reaction. They have so many amazing songs. 💞
Another 60's masterpiece imo......
MUST do "Crystal Blue Persuasion" next.
This is the short version check out the long
This song reminds me of guitar lessons when I was a kid. Am, G7, Em... I don't know if that is right, but it went through my head.
First time I heard this I knew it would be a big hit. Tommy wrote this with Pete Lucia. Tho he wrote another big hit Mony Mony. Got the idea when in a hotel room gazed out and saw Mutual of New York bldg. He has such a great voice. Many great songs. Sweet Cherry Wine, Crystal Blue Persuasion, I think were Alone Now, Do Something to Me, Ball of Fire. It's terrible their not in Rock n Roll Hall of Fame heard that organization is a joke becoming more and evident who gets in and who doesn't.
Crystal Blue Persuasion.
There's a longer version with more of the instrumental part in it.
Ahh, memories. ❤
Great song and reaction. May I suggest two more songs that are superbly done: “Time of the season “ by The Zombies and “Happy Together” by The Turtles.
Aaah! One of my favourites. It just hits me in the perfect place…such a bloody mood! Nice! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
brothers, this was not the full version. The solo was chopped out of it. There is a beautiful solo with 3 or 4 different guitar effects.
Omg… I had this 45 record! Great song!
