R.I.P Alan Rickman 😭😭😭😭😭😢😢😢
And Sir Christopher Lee.
Alan Rickman,is Irish....
Peter O Toole,is Irish,
Daniel Lewis,Is Irish,so is Lim Nelson
Valerie W. Top man.
Gary oldman in 6th?!?!?! Are you Sirius?!?!?!?!?!???
i know are they sirius he should be higher
+Bob Feet
Lol. Cute. And I agree.
Lol
LOL I get it that is funny. But no. Gary Oldman is Sirius.
In JFK, his voice of Lee Harvey Oswald was perfect!
Alan Rickman was waaay too far down this list! 😔 Christopher Lee and Ralph Fiennes should’ve made it also, Fiennes was (in my opinion) incredibly underrated as Voldemort in HP
Ralph Fiennes, YES, Christopher Lee, NO!
Popular culture & Arthouse, thriller & romance - the best actors might do them all.
Also I think Voldemort was played the only way he could’ve done - a large ham
@@MusiciansWithVision Lee was Dracula, he has records in guinness.
I adore Fiennes. He is a clever man in addition to his talent.
@@user-sf3fe4bh2qaaaQsx
Alan Rickman #9 Gary Oldman #6
There's Siriusly something Ron with you Whatmojo.
there re the puns
Love the puns 😂
Let us not forget Mr bean
Very witty. One of Wilde's.
R.I.P. Alan Rickman, a legend you were and will always be.
:(
+Hem Maradia :'(
R.I.P Mate
+Hem Maradia strawpoll.me/6545963/r check this out
+Animation World Stop posting this, we get it. And it only has one vote, its not like 100 people all said animation.
alan is number 9? wow just no
Denise F I am happy that he is in the top
Cycy Moraille blasphemy 😣
he should be number 1
i think they only watched 2 movies of him
Where is Hugh Laurie
Ben Kingsley is possibly the biggest overlook.
HinduHillbilly Absolutely right, and John Hurt was an overlook as well.
As was Jeremy Irons.
...and Sir Robert Stephen's, husband of Dame Maggie Smith (Downton Abbey) and father of Toby Stevens (who could be at least an honourable mention in his own right!)
I agree
Derek Jacobi tops them all; it's just that he prefers the stage.
Charlie Chaplin #7 ?!?!
There would be no cinema as we know it today without Charlie Chaplin.
He changed the course of moving pictures and was brilliant.
NUMBER 1, without a doubt.
@patrick kennedy, if you're gonna add Chaplin, then we have to add Stan Laurel - comic genius.
That's right. The word ICON was meant for people like Chaplin.
@@johnt7630”Well, there’s another nice mess you’ve gotten us into!”
Oliver Hardy
Not even an Honorable mention for Ralph Fiennes ?
WTF ?
M. Gustave
His portrayals of Michael Berg, Amon Goeth and Harry Waters are better than anyone above barring Hopkins.
and where is mr bean ????
And fuck Michael Caine he is so overrated. He always plays the same character and for me his charatcers are never believable. He doesn't deserve to be ranked so high I think hes very overrated.
I would have thought Ralph Fiennes was deserving of a spot.
+Stuart Gibbons YES ! ! ! ! !
Seriously?! Alan Rickman is number nine? To me he is the greatest actor in the history of actors! RIP Alan Rickman. You were the reason I was happy in the mornings of everyday. I will make sure your spirit lives on! Who's with me?
We're all with you!!!!!!!😃😃😃
RIP Alan Rickman, one of the coolest character actors ever.
He died?
How could you overlook the likes of Richard Burton, John Hurt, Charles Laughton, John Gielgud, Claude Rains, James Mason, Ray Milland, George Sanders, Robert Shaw, Peter Sellers, David Niven, Trevor Howard, Ralph Richardson, Nigel Hawthorne, Peter Cushing, Albert Finney, Jeremy Irons, Timothy Dalton, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Kingsley, Kenneth Branagh and Sean Connery?!
You realize you listed 22 names for a top 10 list
Agreed. God knows there are enough to choose from.
100% agreed with you! they also forgot Pierce Brosnan.
I came here to complain that some greats didn’t even get mentioned. I see you covered all those! Great list!
Why is the brilliant actor Leslie Howard, who died on a government mission in WWII, not on the list? Or London born Bob Hope who spent years entertaining fellow American soldiers near battlefields in that same war. Also, I vote for Jonny Lee Miller - the best Sherlock Holmes of today..
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Alan Rickman is only #9?! Come on, he is one of the best actors I've ever seen!
I can't stand that guy.
He was not a leading man.
He was great in the HBO film Rasputin.
Rowan Atkinson? Sean Connery? Alan Rickman 9!?
VW2015 : I agree! Alan Rickman stays as one of my all time favorite actors ever, anywhere .... not just from the U.K. Rowan Atkinson still brings some of the best belly laughs, Sean Connery only got better looking with age and that wonderful and very distinctive voice.
Rowan Atkinson is a comic genius NOT a great actor, and Sean Connery, Anthony Hopkins and Michael Caine are the WOODEN type of BRITISH actor Americans go for!
Rowan Atkinson is primarily a physical comedian. RIP Sean Connery. Alan Rickman didn’t do that many films
@@MusiciansWithVision yeah to be fair this list is compiled by an American so it’s not authentic to Britain’s choice
Yeah I agree... Alan shouldn't be on the list
Gary Oldman is always underrated by Americans. He's like a chameleon: adapting, changing into any character. He can play anything: drama, comedy, satiric, action, thriller, action, science fiction. I still didn't get over Zorg and many others!
What about Ralph Fiennes, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Tom Hardy, Martin Freeman, Clive Owen, Benedict Cumberbatch?
***** Clive Owen was a great movies such as Gosford Park, Bent, Croupier, The Bourne Identity...now he's the main role on HBO's series The Knick.
***** Martin Freeman's, Tom Hardy's and Benedict Cumberbatch's success are recent, their acting careers are not. I remember watching movies with them almost 10 years ago.
Don't forget the legend that is john hurt!
filmenthusiast237 I can't believe I forgot about John Hurt!
There's also Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie!
Benedict doesn't have international stardom and with good reasons since he hasn't had that many leading roles.
R.I.P. Alan Rickman
+Dominic Aragon I think you might be having a seizure
Lol 😆
Squidward What’s your problem? All they said was R.I.P.
MsAppassionata : I’ve found that there are CZcams commenters who think it’s fun to make rude, disparaging, and/or hateful comments. 😒
Ralph Fiennes isn’t on the list!!!!! You must be kidding
For Schindler's List alone.
Agreed!
...nor is Derek Jacobi. While he does more stage work than film, he is easily the best actor on the planet.
No mention of Tim Curry or even Jeremy Irons!? Along with Rickman, those are the epic trinity of British actors...the bar that all actors are measured by!!!
HOW THE HELL IS ALAN RICKMAN 9TH, IAN MSKELLEN 8TH, GARY OLDMAN 6TH, AND COLLIN FIRTH ONLY AN HONORABLE MENTION?! THATS INSANE! What's even more insane is how Jeremy Irons isn't on this list!
No Jeremy Irons?! That blew me away!
How would you change it?
Rowan Atkinson, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Sir Sean Connery, Ian McDiarmid, Sir Richard Attenborough, Sir Ian Holm, Richard Harris, Sir Michael Gambon, Sean Bean, John Cleese..I know this is a tough list to make, but you could have at least extended the 'Honorable Mentions'..
Also I think Sir Ian Mckellen deserves a higher ranking. He is versatile, does the best monologues and is an amazing stage actor.
Oh yeah and I just want to say how great Sir Ian Holm is. His performance leaves me speechless every time.
+Hans Esa ... As we say in England "The dogs bollocks" meaning very good actually!
+Hans Esa .. Your just not a very nice person are you.
Stan Laurel?
British actors are the best. Just don't understand how didn't they even mentioned Kenneth Branagh.
Alan Rickman is a best actor of UK ❤
R.I.P Alan

and Sir Patrick Stewart.
@Jeremy Brookes Daniel Day-Lewis is Irish, too. Also, I thought Ireland IS in Britain.
@Jeremy Brookes Well, ok yeah, I might've got tha wrong but...Liam Neeson definatly is and he's in the honorable mentions.
@Jeremy Brookes Hmm.....interesting.
where is ralph fiennes?
MOVIEMANIAC737 LUVMALIFE Lord Voldemort*
He who shall NOT be named.......
My fave - Wuthering Heights, Schindler's List!
sissy silveira the list is the top 10, you cant get everyone in.
*_Ö HOW DARE THEY NOT INCLUDE RALPH FIENNES!!!!!_*
Patrick Stewart not even an honorable mention?
SIR Patrick Stewart, how insensitive of me
Agree. SEAN CONNERY SHOULD BE NUMBER 1
#8
#7 agree#6gary old man. #5peter iTools. #4 Laurence Olivier. #3 Michael Caine. #2 Anthony Hopkins. #1sean Connery. Daniel Day Lewis
+Patricia Phillips For me: 6 Gary oldman 5 connery 4 day-lewis 3 hopkins 2 mckellen 1 olivier even though I want to rank higher, and I also can't logically agree with connery as 1 if neeson is as good as him, and Daniel did drama and action very well where some other actors failed, but to me hopkins and olivier are as good as him, even Mark rylance
Sean Connery!!!!!! Definitely my number one
Sir Patrick Stewart, Sean Bean , Sir Sean Connery
What the hell, Colin Firth is just in the honorable mention, he deserve to be in the top at the 1, 2 or 3 places, and Alan rickman just at 9th, why he is so talented
Nope, because he is not as good as others, certainly not top ten.
Denis Daly *mate did u ever watch ONE of his movies*
@@denisdaly1708 you think Michael Caine is better then him? Hahaha that bloke is well overrated
I agree!!! This list is too subjective, as the ranking of these many wonderful U.K. actors is certainly not how I would list them. Colin Firth is a favorite of mine , as he is great in all his roles. I was thrilled to see him win an Oscar. Alan Rickman may have started starring in movies later in life than most actors, yet his performance in ‘Die Hard’ was phenomenal! We lost out ‘big time’ when he died too soon,. Just think of how many more wonderful performances he could have done.
There are 50 or more British actors that are worthy of inclusion; Colin Firth is just one of them!
Where's Sir Patrick Stewart? Professor X? Picard? Come on!
Pancake onToast FOR REAL add Star Trek next generation 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Don't forget scrooge
And possibly his greatest role as deputy director Bullock
What about Peter Sallis?
The amount of talent in all kind of art (cinema, music, literature...) that UK possesses is just ridiculously massive. They are such a tiny thing in the map and such a bright people at the same time. Its just unbelievable.
María Matmos Yeah your right. 65 million people on a tiny island with so much talent. From Shakespeare, The Beatles ..the list is endless. Amazing really. Love the UK.
Exactly! it's not fair.
+Lucy Laiche hygiene is not an issue here I find it quite funny actually
He may not be as recognized as many others, but I think Stephen Moyer (HBO series: True Blood) is exceptionally wonderful in his role as vampire Bill Compton. He did so well in that role that it’s like he stepped out of the pages of the books.
And that is why the world envies UK
Wait... Rowan atkinson doesnt even get a honorable mention, what the hell watchmojo?
might be defined as a comedian
very true
Well, Charlie Chaplin has some amazing acting roles, Atkinson is far better as a comedian then an actor - on the other hand, where do you draw the line between one and the other?
Clearly they have never watched Blackadder..
+Hans Esa clearly. They need to. BALDRICK!
Ralph Fiennes, Sean Connery, Benedict Cumberbatch should I continue?
Christian Bale should have been in the list not in HM
No no not Benedict.. He's good but not great!
UK gave to the world many great actors! For me the best one is for sure Alan Rickman!
Maybe you should redo the list and let the CZcams comment section vote, Mojo. Christian Bale and Liam Neeson only having honorable mentions is shameful, and Rowan Atkinson, James McAvoy, and Sean Connery are left out because...?
No, Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, and Christian Bale getting honorable mentions while Sean Connery and Patrick Stewart not getting even an HM is shameful. Also, I really think that people need to stop saying Atkinson. He's not that great... definitely not great enough to make a list like this.
Victim of Lag Rowan is a legend. And what's wrong with Liam, Christian and Ewan "greatest-actor-to-ever-bless-this-Earth" McGregor*? Unless you're referring to that an honorable mention is all they got?
And sorry about the lag, mate.
*Seriously, Ewan should be #1. I'd elaborate, but I already did in a previous comment.
Miriam Diedrich
the fact that you said that McGregor belongs at #1 means your comment can't be taken seriously.
Victim of Lag Alright, explain why he shouldn't be? Seriously though, I'm curious.
Miriam Diedrich atkinson has very limited range. 95% of his roles are all bumbling nice guys. Even in Black Adder he is a bumbling bad guy.
My heart broke when I saw '1946 - ' 😢
RIP Alan Rickman, you will always be a legend
No Richard Burton, Ben Kingsley, Albert Finney, Ralph Richards, John Gielgud, Rex Harrison, Sean Connery, Alan Bates, Bob Hoskins, Richard Harris, Roger Moore can someone say THE WILD GEESE?
Richard Harris was Irish, but the others were pretty good!
James Bond. Rex Harrison, forgot about him.
In an interview on the Johnny Carson Show, Peter O'Toole made it very clear that he was NOT from the United Kingdom, telling Carson "I am Irish".
He was born in Leeds, he admitted it before he died. Although he did tell everyone she was Irish and was very proud of his Irish ancestry
@Daniel Griffin, His dad was Irish and he loved Ireland - to a point where he exaggerated his Irishness by being vague about where he was born - Ireland or Leeds, England. Fair enough. But the truth is that he was born, lived and died in England. Spent most of his spare time watching and teaching cricket at Lords in London.
Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Simon Callow, Richard Harris, Ben Kingsley, Sean Connery... We need another list.
richard harris is irish
Cian Byrne oh sorry
its k
Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Cumberbatch and Daniel Radcliffe are missing as well. What a pain!
Ashleigh Tompkins none of them have had the roles or have the experience to be considered best of all time
Sir Patrick Stewart doesn't even get an honorable mention?????
Ohh, our beloved Professor X ??
Patrick Stewart and Eddie Redmayne should have been there somewhere.
For me that would be Alan Rickman, Ian McKellen, Colin Firth, Anthony Hopkins, Sean Connery, Gary Oldman, Ralph Fiennes, Jeremy Irons, Bill Nighy.
Prog4Ever Well stated, sir.
I agree
Well done for including Bill Nighy in your well Nighy (pun, sorry) perfect list.
A massive talent.
I totally agree with this list.
Guiness and Lee?
So nice to see that people haven't forgotten about Laurence Olivier. He had an outstanding career. Rebecca, Spartacus, Hamlet, Richard III, Hamlet, just to mention a few highlights.
Alan Rickman only as #9 and Benedict Cumberbatch not even an honorable mention?
Regina Prince UGH so true tho
I think cumberbatch would be on a list now but he wasn’t as respected as a huge actor when this list was made.
Regina Prince fuck Dr strange more criminal is no Christopher lee
Regina Prince I literally only clicked to see if Benedict was on the list this top ten this "top ten" is bs
Cumberbatch is good but top ten imo.
"I DID MY WAITING… TWELVE YEARS; IN AZKABHHAN AND ALL I GOT WAS NUMBER 6 IN THE TOP TEN UK ACTORS COMPILED BY AN AMERICAN"
Love this 😂😂
RIGHT! XD
This list may have been created by an American but as I am an American myself, I sure don’t agree with the list at all.
Canadian
RIP Alan Rickman. He's a great actor.
I thought Alec Guinness would be #1! Not just an Honourable Mention!
DITTO!!
This video was made before the Death of Alan Rickman. R.I.P. Mr. Rickman. You were an inspiration to us all.
How is Gary oldman only number 6, have people seen him in Leon the professional
great movie.
EVERYONE!!!
And Drexl in True Romance.
sharky H He was Brilliant there. He is very good most times.
sharky H he's even better than DDL. He's winning his first Oscar for sure. Otherwise it's rigged
I remember the first time I saw Laurence Olivier in the boat house scene in "Rebecca". I was absolutely fascinated with what elegance and effortlessness he moved around the room giving a monologue of four or five minutes. That was not only a stage actor's training, it was genuine talent. - But it is also true that he was a stage actor who had a tendency towards over-acting, with big gestures and a declamatory style that might have been normal in a theater, but a bit strange in a movie where close-ups and modern sound technique make this kind of acting a bit strange. Take "Spartacus" for example. Olivier has strong scenes as Crassus, but certain moments are quite honestly simply awful and almost unwatchable (eg the scene where he talks to Glabrus before the latter leaves town for a slave hunt mission).
Agree with your comments - although I thought he was really good in Wuthering Heights.
Alan rickman and Gary oldman two of my fav actors RIP rip rickman
No Sean Connery, no Richard Harris, no Ben Kinglsey, no Jeremy Irons... This TOP 10 is wrong.
Richard Harris!
FlownXp My goodness I forgot about Harris, impossible list with only 10.
FlownXp Harris ain't British
Sean Conery yesssssss
FlownXp You are kind of correct, I also hate how the lady over talks EVERY list and I mean every single one.
Ralph Fiennes needs to be there
Alan rickman only 9?????
Truely no other nation can produce so many amazing actors. I did however miss Sean Connery
Which UK actor did you forget? Where does one start? I just don't get the point of a Top Ten list. It only serves to show up the gaps in people's knowledge and is highly subjective (the one positive aspect is that it at least starts conversations on the topic and perhaps leads some to investigate further). Consider the following list of truly great UK male actors NOT mentioned: Dirk Benedict, George Sanders, Terrance Stamp, John Hurt, Ian Holm, Richard Burton, Jeremy Irons, Gabriel Byrne, Michael Fassbender, John Gielgud, Ben Kingsley, Sean Connery, John Mills, Tim Roth, Bob Hoskins, Tom Hardy, David Niven, , Peter Cushing, Tom Wilkinson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Malcolm McDowell, Jonathan Pryce, Ralph Fiennes, Stephen Rea, Idris Elba, Brendan Gleeson, Martin Freeman, Colin Farrell, Tom Hiddleston, Jude Law, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Daniel Craig, Kenneth Brannagh, Oliver Reed, Patrick Stewart, Pete Postlethwaite, Jim Broadbent, Gerald Butler, Cillian Murphy, Toby Jones, Terry-Thomas, Jonathan Rhys-Davies, Robert Carlyle, Clive Owen, Roger Moore, Bill Nighy, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, Anthony Andrews ... and there are many, many more fine UK actors not mentioned here and other younger ones rising up through the ranks, like Andrew Garfield, Daniel Radcliffe, Robert Pattinson, Jamie Bell, Eddie Redmayne ... and we haven't even started thinking about the female actors ... Angela Lansbury, Vivien Leigh, Julie Christie, Deborah Kerr, Julie Andrews, Tilda Swinton, Olivia de Havilland, Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson, Merle Oberon, Jenny Agutter, Imelda Staunton, Audrey Hepburn, Helen Mirren, Vanessa Redgrave, Judi Dench, Helena Bonham-Carter, Glenda Jackson, Claire Bloom, Kristin Scott-Thomas, Emily Blunt, Charlotte Rampling, Maggie Smith, Lynn Redgrave, Jacqueline Bissett, and many, many more ...
Craig Martin So true, WatchMojo don't really ever learn. How can Kingsley and Hiddleston not be on this list!?! Some of the best villains ever portrayed in moving picture history.
Albert Finney
Ah, how can one forget Albert Finney! The quintessential Daddy Warbucks! Love him in Wolfen. A dynamic screen presence.
Craig Martin byrne and gleeson would not thank you for calling them british, and especially stephen rea, hes a rabid irish republican...
the green man Of course. Thanks for the reminder.
I'm surprised you didn't mention Patrick Stewart
+Johnno9989 Not even an honorable mention Shame on you, Mojo!
Hear, hear
+Johnno9989
Watching Patrick Stewart act is like watching a piece of wood act. No emotion whatsoever, only technique. BORING.
+Johnno9989 Sir Patrick H. Stewart
+tiffsaver Sir Patrick H. Stewart
Oliver Reed could blow all this lot off the screen, even when his pissed!
@jack reed, you're right, he could have - but, sadly, his movie career effectively ended in the mid-1970s because of his reputation for drinking. No director would touch him - great shame!
WHY IS ALAN RICKMAN AN 9?! OMG HE DESERVED 1ST PLACE OR AT LEAST TOP 3!!!
Some honorable mentions: Robert Shaw (Jaws, Man for all Seasons, From Russia with Love),Donald Pleasence (You only Live Twice, The Great Escape). Ian McDiarmid (Darth Sidious - Star Wars); Michael York (Logan's run, Cabaret), Basil Rathbone (best Sherlock Holmes); Stephen Boyd ( Ben Hur); Oliver Reed (The Three Musketeers, Oliver); Christopher Lee (Dracula, The Man With the Golden Gun, Star Wars), Richard Attenborough (The Great Escape, Miracle on 34th Street).
Not many may know who Steven Boyd was, but I have been a fan of his for decades. He was terrific in ‘Ben Hur’!!! All the actors that are mentioned in your comments have given us note worthy performances.
Oliver Reed? I forgot about him. Best Bill Sykes in "Oliver!"
@@slcRN1971 I know, I know, I know 🤩
I discovered Oliver Reed recently and am fascinated with his interviews like the one where Shelley Winter threw a drink on his face 😂 and movies like The Hunting Party
@@106andie Oliver Reed was becoming a pretty big star by the 1970s, but, because of his reputation for drinking, directors wouldn't hire him and his career went down the toilet. It's a shame because he was soooo good.
Richard Burton?
Now, 2018. We lost Allan Rickman to cancer in 2016☹️
Allan Rickman should have been in the top 3 not at number 9.
For those of you complaining that some of the actors on this list are Irish, Scottish, etc., and therefore don't deserve to be on said list, quick geography recap: the United Kingdom consists of Great Britain, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales, so the likes of Liam Neeson, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Peter O'Toole deserve their spots on this list.
England not Great Britain but yeah that's really silly some people dint realise that
Yup I'm glad we stayed too, it would of been shit if we left.
*didn't, oops
Well Peter O'Toole is debatable as it is disputed that he was born in either Galway, Ireland or Leeds, England. Daniel Day Lewis is English but holds both British and Irish citizenship, and Liam Neeson was born a catholic in the north. But at the end of the day nobody can get bent out of shape about it. It's pretty accurate to be fair!
Great Britain = England, Scotland & Wales
UK = Great Britain & Northern Ireland
O toole wasnt born in northern ireland. The united kingdom is a political entity. Day lewis and neeson always refer to themselves as irish. Not british. As most irish in the 6 counties do also.
Sir Roger Moore?
Sir Sean Connery?
Sir Patrick Stewart?
Sir Ben Kingsley?
Sir Elton John?
BigNate Thompson Elton John's not an actor.
Sean Connery is Scottish.
***** Please, let's face it: This was an English Actors list, not a UK actors list.
Also missing Sir Peter Ustinov
colin firth needs an actual spot
Sir Christopher Lee an honorable mention? Oh no, he should have been on the list. :)
DaryTremar NUMBER 1 FOR SURE! He is surely missed, by me! :-(
Simon Pegg should be number one
RIP Alan Rickman
What the heck, Sir Charlie Chaplin only at Number 8?! He defined Silent Movies at the time and made it big without almost saying a word in his films! He deserves Number One more than any of these respectable men. The film industry wouldn’t be so big without Sir Chaplin. This is why he deserves Number One more than the others.
Why is Malcolm McDowell not mentioned?or Sean Connery?or Benedict Cumberbatch?
LOVE McDowell & Sean.
Ralph Fiennes? Colin Firth in the honorable mentions?
It's a travesty that Alan Rickman was not knighted. The man is a legend.
Meg DiPaolo Perhaps he was offered the title but refused it. After all, he was a socialist.
Ralph Richardson, John Gielgud and Michael Redgrave. Not even a mention; honorable or otherwise. Ha!
Sir Alec Guiness any day number one. That voice....still give me goosebumps.
YES!!!
Richard Burton.
Surely
This is perhaps the worst top ten that Mojo have ever done. How do they miss Richard Burton?
Burton
Olivier
O'Toole
Caine
any then the rest
D.D.Lewis might, possibly, make the top 20.
Nathan Francis exactly! Not even given honorable mention! I guess, because he wasn't in harry potter or star wars,or lord of the rings, hes not worth mentioning!
Don’t agree with your list. O ‘Toole but not Burton
Yeah, not seeing Patrick Stewart, Benedict Cumberbatch, or Stephan Fry even on the honorable mentions was a real shock.
ILuvKonata and hugh laurie
Michelle Jacobs Terence Stamp, John Hurt, Malcolm McDowell and Charles Dance. With a list so short it's easy for other greats to fly under the radar.
ILuvKonata Cumberbatch isn't a great. He's only been around a few years...
ILuvKonata Oh well, not so sure about P. Stewart. But otherwise totally with you. Not to forget Hugh Laurie. And Eddie Redmayne. I think the time range has been chose too wide: From the 40ies until now and only 10 greatest actors? That's simply not enough.
Louis Beneventi Oh well, I think he IS great. And he's in fact been around for decades now, doing amazing work.
5:05 and finally won an Oscar for his amazing role as Churchill
When I saw Alan Rickman's age as 1946 to present that hurt a little inside...
Tbh the best actors come from the UK.
and bands
Robert de niro, marlon brando, al pacino dustin hoffman, clint eastwood, gene hackman, morgan freeman, kevin spacey, bryan cranston, matthew mcconaughy, james gandolfini, the marx brothers, bruce willis, jeff bridges, michael keaton, samuel jackson, joe pesci, jack nicholson, kevin costner...Yeah sure...totally disregard an entire country of actors in favour of another...why not?
***** I don't think he said that the ONLY actors come from the UK. Or can I not read properly?
Don't get to full of yourselves! The US is still #1 in both actors and bands. I am unbiased, For I'm from neither country. Then again, it all comes down to personal preference...
odavies94 He said the best. Actors like marlon brando and robert de niro have changes acting for the whole world and are definitely on the top class of actors. Why categorise actors based on nationality?
I cannot believe they put daniel day lewis on this list! he's irish! he's not from the uk!
Fran McAllister He was born and raised in England, learned acting in England, speaks with an English accent, has a Knighthood......
Sorry, ok. I think he considers himself Irish, so I was quite upset.
He only moved to Ireland to go away from all the fame.
he is anglo-irish so he Counts as an English. an anglo-irish are an irish that adoptes English Culture and don't care about our Culture. he's English not fecking irish erin go bragh
He was actually born in london
DDL is my favorite actor of all time, I also think Sir Christopher Lee is mesmerizing in his role as Count Dooku and Sauron. Alan Rickman, Ian Mcdiarmand, and Sir Alec Guinness/ Ewan Mcgregor are in my top 10!
How could Derek Jacobi is not mention in the list??!!
RIP Alan Rickman. We will forever honor your memory
Can't believe John Cleese was left out
And what great acting performances has John Cleese ever given?
He's one of the best comedians but definitely not one of the best actors
Yes, but it's a comedy performance
DON'T MENTION THE WAR!
TheSvenVids
You started it.
They forgot to mention Richard Burton and James Mason
Paul Stone : I’m not sure how many people remember the great James Mason (‘North by Northwest’). I have watched many of his films several times each.
Why are Christian Bale and Liam Neeson just in honorable mentions?
Why is Benedict Cumberbatch not even in the honorable mentions?
Why are Gary Oldman and Alan Rickman ranked so low?
Sean Connery, Bill Nighy, Hugh Laurie, Rowan Atkinson, Richard Griffiths, Hugh Bonneville, Ralph Fiennes... And I am Spanish XD
I´am german and I agree with you.
Bill Nighy is a great talent like the others listed here. What I admire about him the most is how he can be so memorable in every role that he has been in.
Maybe honourable mentions for Malcolm McDowell, Sean Connery (and all the British Bond actors), Terrence Stamp, Jason Statham (he seems really big now), Sean Bean, Jude Law, Clive Owen.
Statham is more famous for his action hero personality and fighting stunts rather than his serious acting abilities
+David McMullan strawpoll.me/6545963/r check this out
+David McMullan
And Robert Shaw.
I would have also mentioned Richard Burton and Jeremy Irons.
Oldman is one of the greatest actors to ever do it. Period.
Lol no
Peter Sellers, Ralph Fiennes, John Hurt, Kenneth Branagh, Jeremy Irons, Patrick Stewart, Ben Kingsley, Hugo Weaving, Tim Roth, Michael Fassbender...Not even an honorable mention ?
Fassbender is from Ireland I believe
Actually I think fassbender was raised in Scotland.
Sam Benson Technically he was born in Germany but his parents are Northern Irish so he's from the UK, if you aren't counting his German citizenship!
Sean Connery, jude law, roger moore, basically the blackadder cast of Rowan Atkinson, Steven Fry, Hugh Laurie
***** So he's half German and half from the UK. Still part British!
No Sean Connery he was James Bond
No Ralph Fiennes he was lord Voldemort
Connery is just not that good an actor, sorry. Fiennes, fair anough.
I think everybody knows that Connery is Scottish.
But either you did not read the title right or you don’t know that Scotland is PART OF THE UK!!!
@Hikaru Midomiya sir Anthony Hopkins is Welsh... in that case he should not be mentioned
@Hikaru Midomiya Cary Grant should not be mentioned either as he gave up his british citizenship to be an American
@@ruthmeb Connery is not a good actor. He exceeds most of the hams on this list. Sit down and watch most of the films and you will realize that he steals the show even from the "so called" main actors. Indiana Jones, he stole the limelight from Harrison Ford... Highlander, he stole the scene from Christopher Lambert, The Rock, he stole the limelight from Nicholas Cage... compare all the 007 films, he stands head and shoulders above all other actors that followed him, including Roger Moore. Before you speak, find all his films and warch them before you utter a single word
Why is gary Oldman 6. And Allan Rickman 9. ?
Wwe Vader
So many to pick from and all merit the No.1 position in my humble opinion.
They need to do a second list. To get all the ones they missed.
David Tennant, Ralph and Joseph Fiennes, Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, Roger Moore, Patrick Stewart, Clive Owens, Christopher Eccleston, And Sean Connery.
***** No he's actually scottish.
***** LOL tennant is scottish ......
Tom Baker?
***** u high?
Can't believe they missed out on at least getting one man to represent Bond.
some people have mentioned and added some that were clearly missed.
I would like to add a few more
John Hurt(?), Alec Guinness(?) -could probably throw in James mason, David Niven and Peter Sellers
Kenneth Branagh ? Jeremy irons(?)
Of the more contemporary, new ish actors: Christian Bale, Benedict Cumberbatch,Timothy Spall (great character actor, so often underrated/missed imo).
(suspect people may have mentioned some of these, but I couldn't see them):
Sppt on top 2 but Allan Rickman & Christopher Lee should have been in top 5
Alan Rickman is at nine? He deserves number one, his acting is probably the best I have ever seen.
YES!!!!!!
I know right!
apparently you need to see more
Amirmahdi Latifi More of what?
+Amber Shoffren More acting
Robert Donat( goodbye,Mr Chips);Robert Taylor;Stewart Granger;Michael Wilding;Dirk Bogarde;Richard Burton;John Cleese( ex-Monty Python);Sean Connery;Sir John Gielgud;Malcolm McDowell;Dudly moore( hilarious);Richard Harris;David Niven;Keneth Branagh,John Hurt;Jeremy Irons;Alec Guiness, and the last but not the least, Peter Sellers and Rex Harrison... this list is so flawed....
I agree i only look at these sites to see who they have left out. Your list is pretty good but i would have put John Mills Jack Hawkins and my personal favourite Alistair Sim. Oh and i think you will find that Robert Taylor was actually American
You are right , Robert Taylor was american,he just looked always so english, hehe....
+Luciana Jeny what about Tim Roth
I love Robert Donat! In fact, I love all of those on yours (except for Robert Taylor - love him, he's just not a Brit) and mojo's list as well. It's so hard to narrow it down to just ten though, there are so very many great British actors. I also love Sir Richard Attenborough, Pete Postelthwaite, Ralph Richardson, Ralph and Joseph Feinnes, Robert Newton, Tim Curry, Brendan Gleeson, Ben Kingsley, Bill Nighy, Jim Broadbent, Tim Roth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddelston.. I"d better stop or I'll be typing all night! The reason there are so many marvellous actors in the UK is that they all cut their teeth and continue to do live theatre throughout their careers. It really gives them an edge and allows them to really polish their craft.
Love your additions to the list of brilliant Brit actors too!
Alan Rickman's best film? Galaxy Quest!!!!
Laurisa Reyes : though I agree that he was excellent in that role, I liked him in all if his performances. His comic performance was also notable in ‘’Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves’ 1991, he stole that movie (his performance saved that movie from being blah). We all would have loved to see him in even more wonderful performances because he was fantastic. 😪
Peter Cushing how could you forget not only as an actor but a true Gentleman.
im American and I'm gonna say it, Englishmen make the greatest actors. When Gary Oldman is 5th you know your fantasy acting squad is stacked for this season. But honestly I see people listing James McAvoy, Tom Hardy, Bendersnatch Cumberbund. They are great actors but this is greatest English Actors of ALL TIME. They don't have anywhere near the amount of work everyone on this list does. Maybe 20 years from now but not yet. And btw, Alan Rickman was born in '46? wow, dude is 70? hmm who knew
When you see that the likes of Ben Kingsley and Patrick Stewart don't even make the honorable mentions list, it's pretty frightening how much of a talent pool Great Britain have had.
I also agree with you, those three actors, although very talented, shouldn't even be breathed in the same sentence as any of these actors.
thanks
you do realise that the British actors in the US are only good because it's only the good ones that make it over, we've got our own supply of terrible actors Americans just never see them
Uh yeah no kidding. I'm just saying look at that list, it's ridiculous
Alan Rickman looks a lot younger than that, but wiki confirms it. He's sixty nine (dude).
