Cincinnati’s inclines were unique in the world, as funicular railways go. Foregoing a fixed gondola for a flat platform made them an integral part of a transit system. Had we at least saved the Mt. Adams Incline, it’d today be a tourist attraction with an appeal similar to San Francisco’s cable cars. It’s amazing this city still has so much historic architecture despite the destruction of so many cool places.

Wow! The music makes me feel Cincinnati back then.
Mt Adams Incline being the last incline in operation in Cincinnati, thankful someone thought to film it. I was born in January, 1948...my young veteran father whisked me up in his arms, hopped a city bus from Walnut Hills and took me on one of the last runs of the Mt. Adams Incline. Though I don't remember, he did it so I could say this now. As a historian, it's wonderful...someone took a film of it.

      Neat man.
That area... It's hard to find a place to park expensive to live. There ought to be a parking garage and a lift to carry you up. Who's the millionaire to do it?

Great video of the Mt. Adams Incline in Cincinnati. You can tell a real railfan made it with such great focus on the rails and the mechanisms, as well as the view riding it up of course. Thank you for sharing!

I had no idea that Cincinnati had inclines! I’m from Dayton and it really makes sense they would have something like this to navigate the hills. I’ve seen pictures of one in Pittsburgh operating.

What an interesting time it must have been to be a alive in an era where everyone couldn't wait to do things in the physical plane, instead of behind phone and computer screens.

This enabled folks who didn't drive or have a car to go all over Cincinnati. My mom told me about the inclines. She didn't drive, but that didn't stop her from exploring the city.

thats super neat. its totally different than the inclines in pittsburgh. this is essentially an escalator for actual street cars.

Not the only city wrecked by interstate construction, but certainly one of the worse. Interesting place, but painfully slow to catch up with the times.

    • @alman54

It's not my footage, I cut this segment from a locally-made documentary called "Red Devils." It aired on our local PBS station around 1997 or 1998. I googled the video and saw an online source still sells it. It says the studio that made it is called "New Focus Films" from Tampa, but I didn't see anything online about them.
