    Great! Thanks for reporting back about it !

    Looks like channel 1 on your interface is set to accept Line input (Inst/Line switch next to it). If you're trying to record an instrument or vocal while set on Line, you will have to crank up the input indeed. Switch back to Inst and it will be much better and you won't have to crank up the preamp.

      @Citizen_J Před 8 lety +1

      was about to comment the same thing. Both the pad and line/inst buttons are pushed in. Think that is about a -40 to -60 db reduction. I own this and yeah the pream;p is a little weak, but shit...

    Try to switch pad off, and turn it to "Int"; because mic is not "line" instrument.

      Thank you for the tip Jurgen, I have been using it improperly then. If you read my comment just above this, I use my mic. for the guitar amp, but getting little sound, but what little I get is distorted heavily. I've been using line instead of Instrument. Thanks!!

    hEY THERE MY BROTHER!!! gREAT TuT on the interface! You really understand your gear and signal direction. I get lost with signal processing cause im not sure what input goes to what! The fuzzy sound when you pick a sound on Nexus happens to me too. I have Wind.Vista on my pc and I hate that fuzzy sound. Spent 12bills on a new usb cable to make sure signal was pure and still got that Fuzzy sound on Nexus. Thanks for this TUT BeatStruggles! Trully great info !!! .

  • @Beatstruggles
    @Beatstruggles  Před 11 lety +1

    Yes, the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 has been much better than my M-Audio Fast Track Pro.
    For the review, I feel I gotta use this things for a couple months to give an honest one. But when the times comes, I'm sure I will! ;)

  • @Beatstruggles
    @Beatstruggles  Před 12 lety

    Hey thanks for the comment Juno -- Did you check it out on Beatstruggles? -- I tried to break it down the best way to go about buying it. And all my beats you hear and pretty much Nexus plus a bunch of solid sound packs. (A lot of the sounds I use are in the Sound Pack Flyer!).

  • @Beatstruggles
    @Beatstruggles  Před 11 lety

    Yes you can record with a condenser microphone as it provides 48V phantom power, but I'd recommend watching my review first before purchasing! ;)

  • @RaulSupreme
    @RaulSupreme Před 8 lety +3

    See now I use the fast track pro with my macbook pro and have none of these driver issues. I've never had to download a driver either. I think it's a pc thing that's why I switched less headache.

  • @SoundPackFlyer
    @SoundPackFlyer Před 11 lety +1

    Thank-you :) -- I was definitely not happy with my fast track pro.. however, I now have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4; it's been great so far! :D

  • @Beatstruggles
    @Beatstruggles  Před 11 lety +1

    Hey Torkee,
    Yes, you are able to plug in the line into the wall with a separate adaptor, but I don't think that is the reason you are getting crackling.
    This is called "buffering" -- Check your buffer size in your m-audio settings. It is probably very low and your computer cannot handle it. Something like 512 or 1024 would be safe with my computer. But a slower computer may even need more! (Also, sometimes you can even "triple" the buffer setting!)

  • @SoundPackFlyer
    @SoundPackFlyer Před 11 lety +1

    I'm glad I went with a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 this time around! ;)

  • @Beatstruggles
    @Beatstruggles  Před 12 lety

    Haha glad you got it working at least! -- So your not plugging into the front? (And are you sure TRS output, or the Insert?).

  • @Beatstruggles
    @Beatstruggles  Před 11 lety +1

    I think they both have latency.. but watch the review to see my thoughts on the product :) I now have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 !

  • @Beatstruggles
    @Beatstruggles  Před 11 lety +1

    I personally now have the focusrite scarlett. It has been great so far! The M-audio, like in the video, was very poor. I'd recommend getting a 2x4, allowing you to record a vocal + instrument at the same time.. or, if you need more inputs for recording at the same time.. there are those options as well!

  • @Don_Dotta2786
    @Don_Dotta2786 Před 4 lety

    its because its using s/pdif as an actual "soundcard". turn that one off and your m-audio is plug n play ready. also check the backside s/dpif button off so your "2 audiocards" dont interfere with eachother

  • @Beatstruggles
    @Beatstruggles  Před 11 lety

    Any audio interface will do this for you. And most audio interfaces nowadays, come with phantom power.
    If you are needing to record more than like 2-4 instruments at a time, there are audio interfaces as well that allow you to plug in the amount of cables you're looking for.
    Checkout focusrite's website for their products!

  • @Beatstruggles
    @Beatstruggles  Před 12 lety +1

    Hey Miy -- I think you're recording as stereo which will only give you that one side -- Try the other option for mono. "Fast Track Pro In 1/2 1" is what I use!
    I use ASIO4ALL -- The M-Audio ASIO works as well!
    Riley!

  • @Beatstruggles
    @Beatstruggles  Před 11 lety

    I'm not sure if I used it in this video, but it has 48V phantom power, which powers condenser microphones great! ;)

    @ToddBeyerMusic Hey Todd -- the only way I've stopped it is either open up another plugin, or put your audio driver to ASIO4ALL V2. ASIO4ALL V2 was the one that has fixed it the best!

    great in depth honest video.....I use the usb fasttrack where did you get that preamp??

  • @mcloink
    @mcloink Před 9 lety +17

    I watched your video and there's one illogical thing: the pad switch reduces the Input Signal about - 20 dB and you pushed it down and turned the preamp up to your black mark at the same time. You showed in this Video moving around and turning higher and lower. That's not how it supposed to be -the pad switch is an option for very loud signals like trumpets, a snaredrum or maybe a death metal singer ;) so you can't complain about a "weak preamp" when you use the pad -20 dB at the same time.

    • @davehoffman63
      @davehoffman63 Před 4 lety

      Thanks MC, I am new to recording, have had this specific M-Audio interface for about 10 years, and still not really good at using it. I use it to mic my guitar amp, (Mic. cord right into line 1) but I always get a distorted sound, but low on my Reaper software, to where you can barely hear it. This leaves no room for a final mix down. And the line/graph is almost a straight line, instead of peaks and valleys for lack of a better term. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm trying to recreate that "live" sound with the guitar. Right now it sounds like my guitar is playing through a crappy A.M radio, if you are old enough to know what that is...LOL :) I know just where I place the mic. and what type of mic. I use is a huge factor. So, I just purchased a ribbon mic. specifically for guitar, but would like a little schooling on this interface first before I pull my hair out again. Thanks MC! Please feel free to email me at davehoffman63@gmail.com Thanks so much!! (This goes for anyone who would be able to help me!!)

    Ya such a headache, but I'm very thankful I've found some ways to work around it! -- Definitely an expensive product for how it works! -- And I just got the pre-amp at a local music store. Super affordable pre-amp and it's made all the world of difference. If you check my CD's on iTunes, I've used the Fast track pro + pre-amp for it all!

  • @Beatstruggles
    @Beatstruggles  Před 11 lety

    @gruka333 Could you please explain more? I use USB as MIDI. I also never touch MIDI channels as its not necessary for me. It used to be fine on windows XP. Also, the pre amp is just for a poor quality product.

  • @warheadz
    @warheadz Před 12 lety

    Also have u considered using external compression for ur vocals? I use to us a pretty cheap dbx compressor and it had a nice gate so it removed all the extra noise in between the vocals. Great vids btw

    maybe because you are using fl studio idk but in Cubase you can adjust the input gain you can actually make a headphone mic as strong as a condenser but thanks anyway nice video

  • @BobKight
    @BobKight Před 8 lety

    If this unit is a soundcard replacement, then you definitely have a mic amp problem - BUT - if the software mixer in your computer has a controller pot for this particular piece of equipment, maybe that pot in TOO LOW... Turning up an analog amplification source - such as this - will definitely DECREASE your signal to noise ratio but if you decrease the level on this unit and are able to increase the input to the software mixer - this should solve some of your problems... Good luck...

  • @Beatstruggles
    @Beatstruggles  Před 11 lety

    Well, it should work! It's an audio interface that powers both condenser and dynamic microphones. So yes, you should be good to go, but I won't be held accountable ;)

    Your review is useless. Pushing the "pad" button= - 20 dB. What kind of microphone did you use in this demo? Most of studio microphones work with 48V Phantom Power... and it is OFF during your demo! No surprise if your gain is so low! The preamps on this sound card are just fine. You dont need any extra mic. preamp.

      I think it's around $50-70.. you may be able to find them more affordable on a local market place website, or ebay etc. -- It's also a tube pre-amp, so it makes your vocals sound a bit fuller too (might want to read on tube amps a little bit).

    I'm sorry, i have a question...
    Dude, what is the minimum gain for inputs? Maximum?
    *
    I'm recording my guitar in cubase, and i dont want any amplification of guitar signal in m-audio interface, i prefer to do so in cubase through guitar rig. I want pure by-pass. So i guess, it's better to set it to the minimun!
    But i dont know, if mininum means by-pass, or -10 dB, or -20 dB.
    So, second question is, where is by-pass, if it's possible to see it to by-pass signal at all

    I have this interface. This thing does its' job fine, except M-Audio just screwed up with the name of it. They meant to call it the CRASHTRACK PRO,
    It can crash any track you give it. Superb. Now go download the latest useless update(2010) and go and throw it against a wall,

    all of these things happen to me too and it sucks when you are working on big projects with all of these powerful vsts

    I have this interface. have problems lately with the sounds in win7 and I want to update to the m-track plus. what do you recommend? they are the same or m-track is better?

      I'm not sure.. I sold the fast track pro because I had problems as well with windows 7 + the preamps were very weak. So I upgraded to a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4

    Haha, join the club! -- Mine was ok on XP -- Just the pre-amps were bad, now on Windows 7 it's very poor quality :(

      Hmmm. I used to attempt recording quite a bit. Always had the problem of low output to my software, but you both bring up a good point. Now, along with very little pre amp, I'm getting tons of distortion with Windows 10. Coincidence?

      Never blue screens or buffering though, just distortion and low output.

    when u record, do you record through the fast track or ASIO4all or computer sound card? coz when i set it to record thru fast track i can only hear audio only the left ear and that includes the instrumental as well.. any help? :(

    Never liked this interface but heard they upgraded their drivers finally. I had the same issues with it. A lot of people mentioned the 48v phantom switch perhaps wasn't on, but that was never an issue. The interface is just bad, and reviews on the internet back that up

    I am using this Soundcard minimum 10 years... In Line 1 connection is not working but in Line 2 connection is good for Microphone. What is the reason?

    need to turn on 48V phantom power for your mic, shouldn't be a preamp prob

    • @Beatstruggles
      @Beatstruggles  Před 6 měsíci

      This was for a dynamic microphone, no phantom power required.

    Not to be rude, but you probably didn't know how to use the M-Audio. The issue you moan about would be solved with two things:
    1) Switch the phantom power ON on the back of the interface
    2) Provide an external power source (an AC adapter).
    What's funny is that it's on the user's manual. I'm sure at 99,99%
    BTW, I own Scarlett 18i20, but my friend had Fast Track Pro and had no problems like you.

    I had all these problems too. If anyone is going to buy Fast Track (not Pro) - it has just as weak preamp as the Pro model.

    does it work good with a mac book pro? and is it true that the USB has latency, while firewire does not??

      +Tiago Sanches Sure, you'll need to plug out of the MPC's outputs into the audio interface's inputs !
