  • Celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day with an online panel of Native speakers and experts. Indigenous Peoples’ Day honors the Native American community, their vibrant culture, and deep ties to land.
Join Debra Yepa-Pappan (Jemez Pueblo/Korean), the Field Museum’s Community Engagement Coordinator for the Native North America Hall, in conversation with:
Heather Miller (Wyandotte), Executive Director of the American Indian Center of Chicago
Felicia Garcia (Samala Chumash), Curator of Education, Indian Arts Research Center, School for Advanced Research in Santa Fe
Meranda Roberts (Yerington Paiute/Chicana), post-doctoral researcher at the Field Museum.
Together they’ll discuss the custom of land acknowledgments; their importance, complexities, and evolution; and what actions can follow a land acknowledgment.

I am so sorry that I didn't show up. When I signed in it wouldn't let me join and then I realized that the time given was 3:30 Central Time . I'm in the Pacific time zone. My mistake. I am glad that you videoed this.

Wonderful conversation. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences, thoughts and leadership and time. I will be taking what I learned here back to my Library and our staff who are learning how to create land acknowledgments and building relationships with the Indigenous people who live on this land.

Wonderful webinar. I will share your words of wisdom with my library colleagues. Thank you for teaching me that land acknowledgements should be sincere, genuine, and specific, and should be part of larger actions dedicated to structural change and long term relationship building.
