Toon Boom > Flash. Also - toon boom recently got rid of studio and animate and now just has different versions of Harmony

Toon boom's Studio looked like it upgraded to the high-end animate and Harmony, but didn't. Nor were the files in the same format. But they have made Harmony have three levels and provided Studio owners an inexpensive cross-grade price until October 2015. Thankfully. I really like that color palettes are linked to the characters and can be changed by flipping to a Night look or a special effects palette. It's a slick program.

      @itsalexclark Před 9 lety +2

Stu VS toon boom will convert all your old studio files to harmony for you if you cross grade - (at least thats what they told me about animate pro, not sure if it applies to studio)

+itsAlexClark You are right about Animate and Animate Pro. Studio appeared to be something bought from another maker, then overwritten to update. I was not happy to learn my libraries couldn't be opened natively. Animate Pro was lovely, vector and bitmap combined.

One thing I like about Blender is how easy it is to animate literally anything in the program. Choose a frame, hover over anything with a number slide, and type i; instant key frame! Anything from the usual position in space, to lamp colors, to camera properties! That versatility is just so powerful!

  • @Sophys

here's what we mainly use in my university's animation program:
2d: toonboom harmony, after effect, photoshop(but rarely)
    3d: maya, nuke (post-prod), zbrush(modeling and texturing)
stopmotion: dragonframe and after effect (keylight for green screen)

from my own experience, even though blender is free, it is on-par with maya if you are familiar with it's UI. In fact, I prefer it due to it's workflow. It relies heavily on shortcuts, which is why people have a hard time starting with it. But to me that's the selling point :P
not to mention that is has a waaaay better rendering engine than any other 3D software that I used (talking about built in. not external)

Blender is not only for beginners just because it is free (and Open Source). It is much advance than some of the Pro 3 D packs. When Autodesk is selling the same thing again and again, in three differently named packages, Blender is becoming one single turnkey CGI production mother-ship. See all the OS it works on, the variety and comprehensive (tools / functions) jobs it can handle and the list of in/output file formats it can convert.

Blender is not only free but works on low-end hardware.
    Blender also supports GPU acceleration.
So that old desktop upgraded with a powerful GPU (ex/ GTX 1080) would make a nice renderer.

For me, blender trumps most other 3D programs in functionality. It's pretty overwhelming if you're a beginner, but the tools it offers and the complex but clear layout structure of the UI really make this a great software for modelers. Also it's reliable and I have yet to find bugs. I'm looking at you, Maya. -_-

Moho 12 (anime studio) is very intelligently designed and more intuitive with each iteration. It does so many things well. It's like Illustrator with motion. Also works with bitmap images. Now that mesh has been added, it is my go to software. Crazy Talk is very cool, especially for quick, fun animations.

You wouldn’t consider adding Krita? 10k frames max but you can play it up to 99 FPS with anything you make, or you can also change it to any fps you want for a longer animation =P

My Stop Motion Software is Stop Motion Pro Eclipse. it can import photos and set a frame rate as well as allowing you to paint over the frames. only problems are that the Sound is not good once rendered and it is £135 (idk now many USD that is)
