    This may come as a surprise from someone who owns and loves vintage guitars amps, pedals and all that stuff, but I have a Firebird X, which I received as a "perk" in a trade, and...wait for it...I love it. Yes, it's very complicated and maybe more more suited to keyboard players who seem to like all kinds of switches, knobs and such, but after a fashion I learned how to use it and it's fab. The pickups are real Firebirds and sound amazing. The robo stuff is, well, kind of cool once you have a good handle on it. Altogether, as the guy said, it''s a first-class, high quality guitar which plays great. So call me names, but I'm keeping (and playing) it.

      Wait until it stops working. Guaranteed for 1 year, and you didn't buy it new. Gibson nor Tronical has ANY parts for them. I ask $500 just to diagnose the problem, and up to $3000 to repair one. Unfortunately, that price is only going to go up. Tronical has a few parts. Gibson has ZERO parts.

    Actually kind of dig the look of the guitar, but the electronics are a major FAIL. Worst part is the gear shift, at least if someone wanted to use it live. Having a push/pull pot that has to be up to turn it on is straight up stupid. So you accidentally knock it down while performing. Now you have to wait 5 seconds for sound. Derp derp derp
    Could see it as a studio guitar, but typically you have access to all kinds of effects in the studio anyways.

    • @hatred9427
      @hatred9427 Před 4 lety +8

      I think it more of a "Bedroom guitar", that you would just use to mess around with or write some shits for songs, or maybe for someone thst just have fun with it and just doesn't care to tour or go to a studio.
      But again, if I want some effects to play my guitar I would just buy a multi-effects unit instead of this whole thing.

    Another great video, thanks for sharing! That is definitely a unique design. I can see maybe a beginner wanting an "all-in-one design" where you only need a fresh battery and an amp to complete your setup, but coming from the land of rack effects and midi foot controllers I also see why it didn't sell too well. Still, I do see this being a snapshot in time down the road and someone somewhere may want to have it as a conversation piece. Rock on!

    I tried one of these in 2011. I engaged the robo-tuner to go from drop d to standard tuning, only to have the robo-tuner overtighten the 1st string until it snapped. It kept trying to tune, even with a broken string. I promptly handed the guitar back to the dealer and went on my way. There's no way I'd trust one of these at a gig. Neat concept though.

    @leroyatleroys Před 5 lety +5

    It has some cool stuff. I understand that they basically wanted to make a guitar that could literally do everything. But in some ways, despite being electric, the electric guitar is meant to be simple. It was typically devised to help boost volume and make it distinguished from a band back in the days when the entire band was playing together using only one microphone to record. It was an easy way to get volume. The tones and effects were more of a perk from the new medium of using electricity. Besides, not everyone wants the same effects and even then, there are variations of effects themselves. Sure, you can get thousands of sounds, but you can arguably get more of what you are looking for from simply buying an effects pedal that you actually like instead of having a bunch of general effects built into one guitar. Besides that, sometimes you want to change to a different guitar anyway(let’s be honest, what guitarist doesn’t like playing at least two different guitars. Whenever I go to a shop, I feel like a kid in a candy store.)? Though the body looks comfortable and I love that they use swamp ash(I love bright toned woods.), the body is just ugly to me. Particularly, the shape of the top horn. I just feel like it could have been slightly less awkward looking. I love the color. In some ways, I am a little sad that this guitar failed. It is quite impressive for what it is. But most musicians want an instrument that feels like an instrument. Not an instrument that feels like a machine. Even synths still look like pianos. Many sample pads often have pressure sensors to give more dynamic options, but also to give it a more organic feel. There is just something intimate about a musician and their instrument. The more you can physically alter the sound, the more the instrument seems part of you. Too many knobs and presets kind of kills that illusion. It works fine for DJ’s and midi guys. But it isn’t the preferred circumstance for guitarists.

We became a Gibson Dealer, and these guys came in...all I remember was sales quota, from Gibson-You gotta move these refrigerators- but no help to understand these. A push pull that needs up pos to turn on guitar? With a 5sec wait for sound? At the very least should be down pos. Operative word abbreviation POS. Gibson usually puts special fret markings at either the 5th or the 12th fret for some reason.
    Before you mentioned the volume pot issue I was thinking to myself, " I bet the wiring in that thing is a nightmare" lol then you opened it up, yup I was correct!
    With that much wiring and interfacing going on it could be anything from a simple bad ground to the pot being bad or even as you said some preset configuration. I doubt it's a preset issue though since with the batteries out guitars like this usually reset to factory settings.
    It's a pretty guitar and I really like the head stock design. I was noticing that the truss rod cover appears to be identical to the one on that Zero model I bought from you. It seems that every time I come up with what I think is a unique thing to do to that Zero you show me a video where my idea has already been used lol.

    I think it was an odd choice to go with 23 frets. I always thought it made a guitar look like someone either didn't cut enough off of a 22 fret, or cut too much off of a 24 fret. It just seems like the only things "Gibson" about it are the logo and the set neck. This thing looks atrocious online, but I agree, gut those horrid electronics, trash the "pedals" that it comes with, and just throw in some old school electronics to have a (most likely) awesome playing beast. It's just a damn shame that Gibson crushed a ton of these instead of going that route and trying to resell, or donating to music programs.

    If they had put all these features on a better looking body shape these may have sold well. Color is great and I don't mind the maple board. But, that shape, I can't unsee that. It should forever be known as Henry J's tombstone. Great video as always Austin! God bless bro. 🎸👍

    I used to have a Line 6 Variax guitar. That was confusing enough, but a nice idea. It didn't have lag, but it feel like there was some sort of detachment between player and guitar. Does this one feel like playing a real guitar?

    Here after the destruction vid. Unpopular opinion time! They shouldn't have given these to music charities to give to children because this is a guitar that would 100% put a child off learning a musical instrument, being that you'd need at least a few GCSE's to work out how to use it. This isn't a first guitar at all. Those £100 Epiphone Les Pauls are good for a kid. Not a Firebird X.

  • @geoffreyallen888

    I saw the original reviews, never seen one for real. It looks all right, loads of sounds, would suit anyone in prison for a very long time. Troggy says it don't work, some guy in the comments says it's because of a setting on the EQ fader (the top of the guitar) which - kind of says quite a lot. You'd have to know this guitar very well to use it on stage and then - what kind of band are you going to be in to use all that stuff? I've got a Firebird, a "reverse" with the Eagle scratchplate and 2 P90s - really simple. I don't think I'd trade it for a Firebird X.
    Big hand for the Trog, he's all right.

      Hmmm... good question! I was going to answer you and say that no it doesn't but then I got to thinking about how a switch on the body can activate the tuners on the head stock. I am going to say it's probably wire less, I doubt they would run wiring through the neck.

    Learning what all this thing could do would be kind if a cluster fuck. I could see one of these being a studio guitar, but a guy gigging on the road would most likely opt out. I can’t see the switches holding up being gigged regularly against pedals. Definitely different, but I can see why it didn’t fly.
