Tips And Comments:
- Playing Technique: Played next to the bridge pickup most of the time except for strummed parts, they are played mostly on middle and next to the neck pickup. Dynamics are applied to the song. Intro goes in crescendo. Try listening to the drums and follow the intensity within them, replicate that onto your instrument. Played with both pickups, full tone
- Gear Sound: Fresh strings. All digital. Not quite happy with this, is always a difficult tone to replicate
First channel is used for the cleaner quieter parts. Includes high gain amp, good amount of high mids, little bit of treble, then raised low and high end.
For the second channel (used on choruses and heavy parts) i add some fuzz and cut some bass to the same channel, then blend with less amount.
For the effect part (i'm not very happy with it) i used fuzz, then distortion on chain (low tone, high gain) then a whammy pedal set to octave. Each time you hit the note you go 0 to 100 with the pedal gradually then back to 0. Hit the pedal after the attack. You will have better luck with real analog pedals. This wasn't that good. I'm not sure this is the original way of doing it, but definitely uses whammy.
For the final "spiral out" part i left the 3 channels on the switch to 2 channel for the end
- About The Song: Transcribed from studio version with help of live videos. For some reason the software notates brackets on the rhythm notation badly, most of this is ternary time so you should group 8th in 3s, not 2s, that would make it easier to read
Need more tips? Just comment!
*All the tabs in this channel are created by me, if you have any advice in the transcription feel free to comment!
*Gear: Taurus t-24 Washburn 4 String Bass (D'addario .045 Standard Strings or Dunlop .045)/ Ibanez SA 120 Guitar/ Alesis Dm6 Drums - Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Interface - PC (Digital Processing) - Hudba

Please read the description for comments on gear and more (i'm never happy with the tone for Tool, is quite difficult to get, well engineered and the sound of the Wal is really present). For some reason the software notates brackets on the rhythm notation badly, most of this is ternary time so you should group 8ths in 3s, not 2s, that would make it easier to read, so sorry about that. I followed the originally thought 9/8/7 8th time they refer, but i think there's easier ways to think of that main riff.
I don't think is necessary to notate harmony here. You have mostly a riff based song and ALL notes interpreted by the bass are based on D minor Pentatonic (D F G A C) and a litte bit of D minor (D E F G A Bb C). So maybe is important to discuss there, that to get most of the Tool sound you need those 2 elements, Pentatonic Riffs applied to rhythm and polyrhythm. You can check that on the intro, with 6/8 for bass and 4/4 for guitar, with many other exapmples throughout the song. The nice thing about playing with this is that most of those notes go really well with each other in harmony (more of a primal, natural or even seminal way of seeing music, pentatonic scale is found in natives all over the world, China, Andes, Native American, etc, etc)
Anyways, if you have something else to add or opinions to make, please use the comments wisely. Also attend on streams on fridays for more info on whatever you want
Hype for anesthesia x50
Awesome work as usual. Any chance we can get Disposition next? Or maybe some more Rush with The Analog Kid?
Solid. Keep em coming.....
CoverSolutions Tool Cut in two
at the breakdown maybe you can make bends?
These comments are either requests or backhanded complements in order to get you to do their song, so can we just stop for a moment and appreciate how fierce of a bass player you are? Can’t wait to see you on an international stage man
Amen to that! I am just starting to learn the bass. I thought Tool was entirely out of my reach right now, but your Vicarious video has inspired me to ATTEMPT to learn my first Tool song - start to finish. Your videos are all immensely helpful. Thank you for sharing so much of your time! Rock-on!
These are just plebs that can’t afford to blow a few dollars.
All that aside, Sebastian is a great player.
When Maynard says “SPIRAL OUT, KEEP GOING” I get an adrenaline rush
I love Maynard
Me too!! It gives me chills
keep going!
Parabol/Parabola by Tool!!!!
Nathan Haynes I really fucking hope he does this. Such an amazing piece of art.
Nathan Haynes He didn’t do it but also Leo Bass Cover just made a pretty good cover of those two songs on his channel. I would recommend all his Tool covers, he’s nearly as good as or on par with CoverSolutions.
@@CC-ks3tj yeah but his tone doesn't compare to cover solutions
@@honeybadger1810 tabs are for notes, the tone is up to you ;)
you have the best bass tone i've ever seen on youtube, man. i mean, i play guitar. this is not my neighbourhood. but i still love it.
Well it is tools bass tone. So it is bound to be very good.
It really is amazing, I’ve tried so many settings and petals to try and match it😂
@Davian Jordy yeah no one gives a shit. Fuck off you hacking fuck.
No this is our neighborhood don’t be shy I play bass guitar and drums music is open territory for all artists if you have any flamingo or classical playing under your belt the bass will come naturally
@Davian Jordy I hope your girlfriend see’s this it’s probably a randomly generated comment from a permission you accepted you fudging TOOL
i can’t believe how simple the building blocks are in this song, and what the sum of its parts add up to. 1-3-4. 3-7-1. these patterns are rudimentary. but jesus christ what they have accomplished with them. love it!

Watching bass covers has been very interesting, as I've been learning the drums for these Tool songs, and it's cool to see how the bass and drums correlate with each other.

Excellent video, definitely helps me learn bass. Thanks
Your playing always impressed me but that was incredibly well done.
I know this video is very old but the tone of your bass is so smooth amazing.😁 And your mix is perfect too , the feel is just what the song wants. Very tight cover.

That was epic.
9 minutes of pure skill
FINALLY YES!!!!!!
Sometime in the future, would you be able to do Prison Sex by Tool? It has a bit of a weird tuning (BADG) but it isn't too difficult. I can't nail the timing though. Thanks for making great content as usual!
Noah Wehler BADG isn't a weird tuning. its one string tuned down. just go light on the B cuz it'll be way floppier than the A,D or G.
Soundgarden have also used that tuning too for quite a few of their songs too ("Rusty Cage," "Searching With My Good Eye Closed," "Holy Water," "Rhinosaur," "Never The Machine Forever") and other artists have gone even further down with the full octave, i.e. AADGbe. There's "Boris" - Melvins, several Them Crooked Vulture songs, "Stacked Actors" - Foo Fighters, "Citizen Erased" - Muse,
The most impressive detuned songs I've heard are from Isis and Boris. Boris have gone down to Drop G# for "Vomitself" and "Heavy Rocks" (they usually okay in A# Standard) and Isis basically tuned their first string even further to F#, the first string on an 8-String guitar. It's some kind of odd open tuning where the 6th string is in B standard, the 5th-2nd strings are in C# standard and the 1st string is simply F#: the same note as the 5th note but one octave lower. Similar to the "AADGbe" tuning mentioned earlier.
Meshuggah have also done the octave tuning too, but for an 8-String instead (B B Eb Ab Db Gb bb eb, as they play one semitone down) for "Spasm," and also managed to slacken the 8th String as low as E0 at the very beginning of "Mind's Mirrors" (although Fredrik just twangs on it a couple of times to give the track a spooky atmosphere-he doesn't actually play on it) and then retunes it back to normal before the "singing" start.
Lastly, Strapping Young Lad tuned their first 3 strings to AAA (the other 3 are in Open C) on their eponymously named track, "AAA."
It’s in DADG isnt it?
Nice 🤘
Brilliant
genio qué bueno GRACIAS LOCO!
Great video btw! been waiting on this one. "Dead Man Walking" by bloodsimple next?
thank you
Yessss finally!
Ultimately their best song ever
