Honestly, the level to which Linus is uninspired by this product comes through so hard. Making up a new product name every time it's mentioned is just icing on the cake.

I can't quite justify spending five-hundo for something like this when I could just spend two for an excellent quality pair of Sennheiser headphones and a Creative Pebble speaker setup for when I don't want to wear them. I mean the tacky "LG" logo on the front is a major turn-off.

I was kinda digging it but not when it costs more than some of LG's own 1440p 144Hz monitors. 😬
I recently paid £300 for the 27GL850 (Fantastic monitor imo and to me, well worth the price). I was expecting this to cost between £100-£150... £500?! Huge nope from me. 🤣

Windows settings turn down other app noises when it detects communications being used, usually to 80%
@@TooUnskilled they weren't talking about what the person on the call could hear. They meant the actual sound Linus could hear was lowered, which is a default feature in Windows like Dead Player says. But yes, noise cancellation is a feature of the soundbar as well.
I like that they made it work as a headphone amp with a easy to switch interface, on top of being a wireless Bluetooth speaker you can take with you. Seems like a cool product, albeit 500 bucks seems overpriced. I think the spatial audio on the speaker might be a unnecessary feature, especially if it contributes significantly to the price.
"Someone has done this before, right?" You're thinking of the Panasonic SoundSlayer which is also £300 cheaper.
Maybe logitechs speakers - I mean they did have those lights which projected a colour from the screen, that was kinda neat
I want to say Creative also put out something similar in the past. After checking they have a few and the main one I was thinking of was the Katana one. There is also the Stage now apparently

What is a gaming speaker, you ask?
It's dumb. That's what it is.
Funny how Linus doesn't talk about the sound quality at all. I don't get why anyone would want this over some proper monitors, headphones or 2.1 pc speakers.
cause its a GAMER SPEAKER THERE TO GET YOU THE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE AND MAKE MORE FRAGS
real talk though, this is just a (seemingly pretty solid) bluetooth speaker with a gamer facelift that they doubled the price on. could be much worse, but 500 dollars can buy you an incredible pair of headphones with a dedicated dac and amp
@@moon1614 It's not just a bluetooth speaker with a facelift. It's a proper DAC with a speaker slapped onto it, then marketed as 'gamer' for god knows what reason.

man at that price you can get some fantastic active speakers from edifier, elac, klipsch etc. I just dont see this ever justifying that price.
To all those complaining about the price:
The price is that high because it uses a ES9038 Pro DAC which is 460$ USD DAC by itself making it actually "a good deal" in a messed up rich audiophile way because you pay 40$ more for the speakers, battery and lights. DEFINITELY not gamer-budget friendly. The price should DEFINITELY be the first thing mentioned. I totally agree with all your complaints. I just wanted to point out WHY it's 500$. It's a legitimate professional DAC despite it's edgy gamer look. On top of it it has surround sound noise cancellation. It was cancelling out all the noises from the speakers. That's what that phone test was about.
This is not for budget gamers.
Seems odd they'd spend such a huge chunk of the BOM cost on such a fancy DAC
@@TacticalFluke09 I’m totally in favor. My $1,000 monitor has a headphone out that’s total 💩 and I ended up spending $500 on an interface which could play from two sources at once and contained a high quality DAC. High quality audio shouldn’t be so hard to find. The more products have it, the better.
where do you get that 460$ price for the dac chip from? A mouser search turns up about 79$ for the chip and in volume they get significantly cheaper. A lot of cost comes from implementation and I wont say that it doesn’t have a lot of features that make that price reasonable, but saying the dac costs 460$ seems disingenuous to me.
You cant compare this to another complete dac implementation and say that the chip costs as much.
Also a lot of the cost is through the price of the other components in the implementation, which we know nothing about here.
This is basically an external sound card with speakers. Would be nice to know what kind of DAC chip is used and how much wattage for the speaker & the headphone out.
@@kabanchan Seeing a lot more of this chip in "mid-range" DACs lately. At this price point, we would see this or the AK4493. Probably harder to source the 4493 than the 9038Pro.

I actually use a Bluetooth speaker under my monitor for the same kind of use cases. And I must say, I am happy with my configuration. This LG speaker seems to have great sound, but hey, it's also quite big.
I listen to headphones 90% of the time but, I just use my Bose sound-link for watching youtube videos and such. It's pretty convenient. Plus this way it's always charged when I need it for other uses.
Creative Soundblaster X Katana comes with wide soundbar, dedicated up-firing tweeters for virtual surround, more RGB and a dedicated Sub-Woofer at lower cost from 200-300$ US (if you can still get it)
Hey LTT team, can I recommend whenever you try gaming audio equipment, you test with games that are very audio sensitive/dependent. IE: Hunt Showdown, Phasmophobia, etc.
I can see the appeal for low profile builds.. but I love a good 2.1/5.1 system
I would recomend a polk magnify mini for the price and size it is the best!
This product seems like something Linus would talk about in "Shit Manufacturers Say" series.
I feel that arrow thing is more of a noticable problem because you are using an open fold. On a normal width smartphone those sliders would be much closer together and would make it easier to set specific frequencies.
this unboxing is wild
the built in mic sound like crap, but I gotta say, I'm impressed that it's able to not pick up game sounds while in voice chat. :)
This is similar to my soundblaster x katana, it's a gaming sound we for your desk, I love mine!
same, best speaker ever, glad I bought it, while this LG speaker overpriced as hell
Razer also has a gaming sound bar that comes with an under the desk sub. $200 all together but it's been pretty nice. I like it.
The best speaker for desktop surround is the jawbone jambox, it actually had some amazing tech, your right ear would only hear the right speaker and vise versa so it would delay the audio per instrument per ear and you couldn't tell there was even a speaker in front of you
No comment on how it manages battery charge while plugged in for extended periods of time?
This speaker is ridiculously priced, but I'd hope LG included a Battery Saver feature. They have it on their laptop. Only charge to 80%.
Never clicked so fast on a Short Circuit video since I need something to replace my Razer Leviathan for gaming at some point!
This just gave me a flashback to highschool. We had old windows desktops. The monitors had "non-gamer" focused "monitor sound bars" if you will. Attached straight to the bottom of the monitor.
At 6.31 when your game voice is lowered upon turning on the microphone; it is not a speaker configuration but a problem with your pc settings that can just as easily be fixed.
Linus cared so little he didn’t even take enough takes to correct himself
I love the concept - I have a LG gaming monitor and not much room on my desk for speakers so this would fit perfectly, but $500 is almost double what I paid for the monitor which is crazy. I'll stick with my crappy $40 Taotronics PC sound bar for now
Going back to a speaker video from before the Dan times shows me a stark difference of content.
Such professional unboxing movements. :]

The headphone's 'great positional audio' you can thank Beyerdynamic for. The headphones themselves will have a much greater impact on soundstage than the amp/DAC, although software audio encoding does have an effect.

@@genekwagmyrsingh9433 you won't be disappointed. Beyers are great. I have the DT770 (lasted 10+ years now and still going strong) & DT1990, and a couple DAC/amp combos. it's opera's gaming browser all over again...
Looks like the Sound Blaster X Katana's little brother, to be honest. I'm not sure if its small size makes for good stereo sound, though. The Katana is wide enough that it can comfortably replace a left and right speaker next to your monitor (which is why I got it, no gap between dual monitors). This one though, seems way too narrow for that to ever work.
I don't need the dac or headphone stuff but the speakers and mic seem cool and useful with the desktop design

Panasonic did the Sound Slayer sound bar. I got one. No analog inputs, great sound, but only bt and hdmi inputs for sound. But it is priced way less than the LG. Also, these are great for multimonitor or ultrawide monitors where traditional stereo speakers would not fit.
Panasonic did do a similar device and it was gamer focused. It was called the soundslayer. Similar in concept anyhow. I can't speak to the quality of either but considering it was half the cost I imagine it probably wasn't as good tech wise. It's form factor I think was better. It was basically just a big flat rectangle with speakers in different locations around it and it also could be used as a monitor riser.
Why would you buy a $500 dollar "Gaming" speaker you can get one for way cheaper and good audio quality
As someone who hasn't used speakers in ages because I find I'm using headsets 99% of the time, this might actually be something I'd be interested in if the price is right.
