Welcome to Stayf Draws. I love animation and love to read about animation.Especially 2D animation.I think those movies are more versatile in style. From a young age I was very interested in Disney animation and how they were made. You only had a few books that showed little bits of how the animation was made. But nowadays there are a plethora of books about Disney animation. The Disney Studios has the biggest archives of all animation studios so they have a lot of cool stuff to show. Disney Editions decided to publish a series of books called the Archive Series. In this video I going to show you the book Layout & Background. It is the fourth book in the series.
In the book you see a lot of samples of the layouts and the final backgrounds ranging from artwork for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in 1928 to The Goofy Succes Story from 2011.

This, along with the 3 other books in the series, are amongst my favourites on my shelf. So beautifully put together and the reproductions are amazing.

The studies of practicing three-dimension is an on going process…..It’s just the form that makes the drawing very surreal. In such work with water colors, the illustrations have a remarkable touch of depth.

So here’s something I pretty much wanna know, I know the process of doing the layouts for the scene, the scenery is in the storyboard and the layout artist has to fancy that up before its taken to the background artist.....................But, how do the layout and background artists style play out, how can they be recognizable? It’s obvious that the layout artist is the one doing the real work. That one we saw of the woodcutter’s cottage from Sleeping Beauty, it is Eyvind Earle’s style, (look at the tree trunk), but you kinda wonder who did the layout for that?

@@StayfDraws I just got it off of ebay, however I very much wanted "Awakening beauty: the art of eyvind earle", however it's over £300, and I havent been able to find any second hand copies yet. I'm looking forward to your new video :)
The book was available for $50, but now it is sold out. I checked it and it is now very expensive. That is too bad. I think the books that are published through The Walt Disney Family Museum are made in a lower print run than other Disney art books.
@@StayfDraws What a shame. There are a few youtube videos that showcase 100s of Eyvind's work, however his work on sleeping beauty is what I prefer. I wonder whether the paint that he used was gouache or casein.
All of the art he did for Sleeping Beauty was done in Gouache.

That is the book Story, it is out of print, but you still can buy it on Amazon second hand. It is quiet expensive now. I will do a review about all of the books in this series.
