I remember well when I first became a Skinhead about 79/80. I was 13 years old walking through the shopping centre when some big cowardly lump about 17 years old grabbed me, started pushing me about and threatened to beat me up. Two Skinheads came along about his age and one of them kicked the nuts out of him. That was it they were my heroes and there was only one fashion I was going to follow.

I got to be good friends with Dave, abs solid chap last time I saw him was when he wandered into my neck of south London on his extended forks Vespa PX and we had a right proper catch up, I'd not long been out the nick and had started going to scooter rallies meself. Still a DM's and flighty sort o' chap, Carnaby St lot would have remembered me as "Wink" in between my daring escapes from clink and straight up to Carnaby I would go. Then channel 4 released a documentary about me in 84 and destroyed any street cred I had pretty much, some might remember C4 up in the flea market and down the street.
Enjoyed that Jay.Ive been a Skin since 79 and still kicking around at gigs here up North with the same Skins /Punks from when we were knee high in Docs.

Skinheads were from the early 70's, reggae was the music, suedeheads came after, much smarter, loved the fashion then, followed by hideous oxford bags, big collars and northern soul.
In the old days they look quite National Front Skinheads, but some years later.....

Been watching lots of these vids lately plenty of nostalgia and this popped up, and I noticed The photo of 'Phil', looks familiar would be right age and area, but there was no 'Now' photo, might or might not be him, last name starts with R and worked in authority ? I sure its him, but its bugging me, thanks in advance.
My younger brother and I were both skinheads had the doc Martin s two-tone suits Levi's,I had the feather cut looked do cool keep it up guys maybe go to the next reunion,wish he was still here to see all these videos he would love them as I do thanks for the memories.
I remember the originals from around 69. Always wondered what they actually did, apart from drink and listen to reggae ?

The original skinheads came from mod .the crombies blue beat hats mohair tonic suits were worn by the original mods .mod also listened to ska aswell as r&b and jazz
@@rogercooper1307 not according to don letts in the history of the skinhead and of story of Trojan records skinhead evoled on the back of the mods cos liked the clean look and the style especially with the crombies and the Harrington jackets ,dr martens and adopted to there own and also a lot of skinheads of mid to late teens after glam (slade were sold as skinhead )got in to the punk scene
@@trevorhensby2118 Original Bovver boys started to appear late 68 and lasted till about 72 at the latest, by that time the cult, fashion or ever you want to label it had been hijacked by the racist mob, then went global and then the second wave appeared, nothing like the originals, ska was just adopted later after the mod and skinheads, suadeheads, before had classed it as their own,along with Rocksteady Reggae, Motown and most great old 60s soul, not that Oi shite, but hey we all had our own time and own likes and dislikess, think the Two Tone gave Ska more popularity,
