  • With the quarantine, we have been unable to get to the salon, and he doesn't sit very well there anyway, so we decided to cut his hair at home. This is my first time attempting to cut his hair and I'm excited to have you along for the ride!

    Dad of a two year old about to get his first cut. From the head movements to the baby shark to the use of a watering can - this is the most accurate tutorial I’ve seen. Extremely helpful and thank you for posting.

    Now THIS is a REAL "how to cut a normal toddlers hair". Awesome job. My wife and I are doing this tonight. Our boy moves a little more than yours so wish us luck.

    I'm going to attempt this tonight with my 2 1/2-year-old. He did alright with his first haircut in February, but my sister is a stylist, and she cut it while I held him. I have been cutting my husband's hair for the last decade, so I know the technique for the cutting, but it's the letting me do it and holding still that scares me. lol
    I'm hoping this goes okay. If not, I'm just going to do a #5 all over the top and a #3 on the sides so that I can get it over quickly, then blend it over the next week. 😆

    • @meganmclean1729
      @meganmclean1729  Před rokem +1

      @@meganmclean1729 Oh, I HAVE to tell you how this turned out. It was my husband's and my 8th wedding anniversary, but we couldn't get a sitter, so we postponed celebration until the weekend. We decided to cut our son's hair that night so that it would look good in the pictures when my sister-in-law took him for the weekend. I thought he was going to be terrible, and he was, but he wasn't the worst. LOL! No...that award goes to my husband.
      We had him in the high chair, he was watching the Super-Pets movie, and doing really well. No crying, tantrums etc. I decided to do a 6 clipper cut on top, 3 on the sides, and blend them. Just an easy little fade. My husband handed me the clippers and I asked no less than three times if it had a number 6 guard on it, and he said yes (I have a hard time reading the lettering on the plastic guards). I think some part of me knew it wasn't long enough for a 6, and that's why I kept asking. Only, he wasn't looking at the clippers, he was going by what he thought he had done.
      To get to the point: my son is now rocking a number 3 bur. It was so short that I couldn't even fade it on the sides. Luckily, he has a pretty head shape, and even more luckily, it's already growing out a bit. lol TBH, though, I cried. He had these beautiful blonde curls, and I had to cut them all off, while he was screaming like I was pouring acid on him or something. I was emotional too, and just wanted to get through it so I could pick him up and hug him.
      Thought I'd update you on how our little adventure went. I learned a couple of lessons though: 1.) Get a magnifying glass and read the guard number myself and 2.) If I cut another short cut on anyone--masculine or feminine hair cut--start at the bottom/sides or wherever is going to be the shortest. 😆

    Thank you for this video. I have a 6 year old autistic son and he actually throws huge kicking, screaming, running away fits when getting his hair cut. I cant take him to a salon. At all. But ive done okay cutting it myself. I think ill try cutting it your way next time.

    Nice job, but you should have at least put a towel around the babies neck so he is not covered in sharp hair that can embed in his clothes and even worse, in his skin. Now he is probably all itchy. You get your neck and clothes covered when you get a haircut.

    • @mrs.jackson2061
      @mrs.jackson2061 Před 3 měsíci

      I think what you meant to say was:
      "Nice job! It might help in the future to put a towel or something around his neck. From my experience, the tiny hairs are very itchy."

    • @meganmclean1729
      @meganmclean1729  Před rokem +4

      I appreciate the concern. M&Ms melt and are too small to obstruct the airway. While I agree, they could possibly get lodged, it’s not a “choking hazard” such as a grape or hotdog, which is the same size as their throats.

    My grandson is close to two, and he has thick, luscious blonde hair. My DIL won't cut it. It's beautiful, but it hangs down in his eyes. Sometimes they put it up in girlish-looking braids or ponytails, and that looks ridiculous! I just wish they'd cut his hair!
