Its like every time in his career that Pedro would pitch against the Mariners, it was always a gem. And the Mariners were a good team or had a great lineup everytime. Total dominance.

At 43:49 you can see the late, great "Rick the Peanutman" execute one of his perfect behind the back laser tosses. Probably one of the few ever caught on tape...

I always hated how in 2000 and 2002, the RSox didnt make the postseason, depriving us of seeing Pedro pitching postseason baseball in his prime.
In 2001 Pedro was DOMINANT in the first half, but then the injury came and he was pretty much gone for the second half. And Sox missed postseason again.

At least he was in his prime in 99

Yup Dan duquette really struggled to build off the success from the 1999 postseason run. While he did lay the groundwork for the 2004 redsox, theo was able to identify what the team needed to help them win it all.

@@DrSanto91 RSOX had a great team in 2002, but no one saw both the Angels and the Athletics winning 100 games in 2002; that surprised everyone.
But what I remembered the most of the RSOX in 2000-2001-2002 was what a bad home team they were. If they had played better at Fenway, they would have made the postseason in 2000 and 2002
2000 home record = 42-39, won 85 games overall. They could have made the postseason had they played better at home.
2001 home record = 41-40 at home, won 82 games overall. They were not making the postseason in 2001 even if they played better at home.
2002 home record = 42-39 home record, won 93 games overall. They could have won the AL East or AL Wild Card if they played better at home

The two teams here were both off to incredible starts (26-10 for Seattle through 36 games and 25-11 for Boston through 36 games), but both ended up finishing 93-69 and missed the playoffs.
Under today’s rules, the Mariners would be the five seed, and the Red Sox the six seed, but no such luck back then.
Side note: 93-69 getting the 5 and 6 seeds is a pretty stacked league.
In fact 11 teams in 2002 were 92-70 or better, and 7 teams in 02 lost 95 games or more. Talk about a year of haves and have nots.
