We hope you enjoy my first attempt at a video. We will work to refine the video on narration. Please let us know your thoughts of what you like and don't like about the video. We appreciate your support and hope you stick with us as I improve this our content.
I love it. My family moved from Michigan to Pomona in 1958. I was youngest out of 6 kids , and I was only a 3 month old baby . We lived in the neighborhood behind Ganesha HS. For about 5yrs. Moved , came back 2 yrs later, and moved to Westmont, a block away from elementary school. So many fond memories. I left in 1972 , but my family stayed for 8/10 more yrs. They moved to the high desert. I'm saddened to hear of what it's become. It gets bad reviews. I wanted to move back , but was told not to. Violence, drugs , neighborhoods have changed , and outrageous prices for houses. Heard that General Dynamics was totally gone. Why? Unfortunate. Hope it can make a comeback.

There is no "Garvey" ave in Pomona! You must be thinking of El Monte. In Pomona we have Garey.
You also forgot Arrow and Foothill blvd. Which run east to west. Also Towne Ave. and Indian Hill blvd. which run north and south.

I was raised in Pomona, I drove through Montana last year and I loved it. I miss it and don't at the same time. I live out of state now aswell. moved around alot as a kid but ended up on 8th and San Antonio.

There are some significantly up scale houses in the hills near the Fairplex and in the Phillips Ranch area. That fact and the sky rocketed home prices in California create that average.

I use to live in Pomona went to school out there from JR high school to High school from 1995 to 2000
I was born in Pomona many years before your stretch in Jr. High. It's a great city with some challenges. While some of the surrounding cities may be very rich or very poor, but few have the range of diversity that Pomona does. I think their efforts with the homeless are noble, but they come with challenges.

Have You Heard About The Intersection Of Rio Rancho Road And Lone Ridge Road In The Phillips Ranch Area Of Pomona Because It Is Next To Walmart? Also, My 23-Year-Old Son Goes To Rio Rancho And Lone Ridge Whenever He Goes To Montclair Plaza/Place In Southern California Ever Since He Went To That SoCal Mall In July 2012
Rio Rancho and Lone Ridge are on the South West end of Pomona which is called Phillips Ranch. The the thumbnail for the video that shows monument sign indicating "Pomona" on it was taken on Rio Ranch Road. The Walmart is there. However, Montclair plaza is on the North East end of Pomona, which is not close to Phillips Ranch. However, Montclair Plaza is the closet Mall of its kind in the area. It is one of the remaining in door malls anchored by Department stores. Newer malls in the Southland tend to be outdoor strip center style malls.

I lived In Pomona since I was 5. That's b.s the latest up to date earthquake there was
Was in 06 or 07. It was a 7.4 earthquake. I was living on Gordon St at the time of that crazy earthquake. Nearly thought my apartment was gonna collapse.
Perhaps our statement was unclear but we were attempting to say the largest earthquake epiccentered near Pomona, not the Pomona had not experience other large quakes. Thanks for the feedback we will try to improve in the future.

It’s cool to see footage driving through Pomona. I spend 4 days a week driving in, out, and through Pomona as Line 480. Certainly get to see some…interesting things driving through Pomona.

Went to Kellogg elementary and later went to Cal Poly which had been my playground as a kid. I drove thru yesterday from Mt Sac to Montclair along Holt. It sure looks run down and dirty, roads are rough and lots of homeless, hookers and altered persons. It looks worse than it did when I worked for Montclair Fire from 1978 to 2011. Makes me sad.
Pomona has some challenges. Holt is one of those. It's an interesting city though as the areas near the Fairplex and Phillips Ranch are very high end properties.

Famous screen writer brothers Albert and Allen Hughes (Menace to Society) also are from Pomona, and boxers Alberto Davila and Mike Weaver, as well as rap band from the late 80's Above the Law.

It does have great soil if it's not contaminated I remember Rosevelt Elementary and Lincoln alot of trees fruit trees walking home green grass!!! I grew many vegetable thier and trees I remember the old Ganesha Park the old pool and new pool well I dont know if its still thier but it got ghetto quick As grown man I left and come back down to see my mother Its still beautiful despite all the craziness it seems to be cleaning up! But then again I left in the early 90s so ya it look good compared to then..
There are surely dramatic shifts in the quality of the neighborhoods traveling across the city. Not much room left to use the soil though.

@@southlandchannel P-Town is in the center of well around cities and mountains easily separated rich from poor north and south you'll see if you go down there, if anything peolple from other cities come to P-town for the entertainment and downtown at nighttime. Nothing pops off unless something js really worth popping off for.
The problem is the city council and the leadership of Pomona. A lot of businesses have left and have moved on because our city regulations towards businesses. It’s a poorly run city and will continue to be unfortunately until residents really care and want change. It’s a shame I love my city. Pomona city and police also were sued because they discarded homeless peoples property when arresting them and were forced to put a homeless shelter in the city as a resolution to the case so its full of homeless now. Other surrounding cities police depts dump homeless in Pomona too so it’s full of trash and drugs. Many of us have lived here our whole lives and hope for things to get better it’s really sad.

I grew up in Pomona and I walked every part of it,I miss it and hope to go back. Our family moved there in the 80's I got to grow up in an amazing town and got to see so many awesome bands when they got the glasshouse. And it's garey , at least get it right ass wize .

"Agricultural town turned city"...turned ghetto!
True there are portions of Pomona that are quite rough. They have a few operations that feed and house homeless people unlike most of the cities around them. Making that effort has its drawbacks. Homeless people bring drug addictions, which brings prostitution.
Additionally, the Government seems to be looser about things like street vendors. Which can diminish the appearance of things. I did feel the the reports from the police department and city government which I read seemed to be written by people who care.
Additionally, I have found there is a lot of love for Pomona out there. Unlike any other city we have profiled, people love Pomona.

Don't stop there, keep going. Allow me to help:
These bums, vagrants, hobos, drug addicted zombies etc. bring graffiti to our public buildings, throw garbage in the streets, defecate and urinate where they please, set up camp on the sidewalks and form tent cities. And worst of all, they destroy the quality of life for the hard working taxpayers. Just wait until the LA Metro light rail arrives in Pomona; you think it's bad now, oh boy, brace yourselves for the onslaught arriving from South Central.
Can we see more of the working girls on HOLT ?
Pomona is a community where you still find people working the streets. I think there is a few channels that I follow that focus on that, but we hope to be a community that looks to appreciate the Southland without hiding or overly focusing on some of its challenges. Pomona is a great city. And on Holt Blvd. a number of things can be found that aren't in neighboring cities, like homeless people, drug addiction, and prostitution. But at the same time you also find multiple outreach, shelter, feeding, and recovery operations you also don't find in other cities.

why don't you talk about the crime, prostitution and gangs and being one of the epicenters of crime in socal
Pomona has some challenges, but it also has a lot of positive traits. The center has several organizations that help homeless people, which can bring in a lot of problems other cities don't endure by simply running off homeless individuals.
As Pomona is a city that makes an effort to help the drug addicted and mentally ill living on the streets its hard to fault them for the problems that stem from it.
I do, however, think they could do a better job controlling street vendors. While I love a street tacos, have street vendors setup all over the city seems unfair to the local businesses and detracts from the city esthetics.

Its Garey Ave and not Garvey. I lived on Las Vegas Ave, about 2-blocks from Garey Ave. I lived there from 1967 to 1977. I attended San Jose Elementary, Palomare Junior High, Pomona High and Cal Poly University. I wouldn't go to Pomona on a bet. It was a poop hole when I left in 1977, so it has to be a major cesspool' now.

Cal Poly was built on donated land from the Kellogg ranch. Yes, the breakfast cereal. They raised Arabian horses and was an official remount station for the US Cavalry. I road the decendants of those horses while attending there in the equitation class.
I apologize for my original comment. It's been nagging at me ever since I made it this afternoon and I did go ahead and delete it. It was not cool. I did not realize that it was your first video, and it just happens to be a somewhat touchy subject for me personally as it is my hometown and I have not been able to get back there for way too long. I miss it. My comment was a reflection of these things, not constructive in any way having to do with production or content. In all it is in excellent first video. The narration was a bit flat. I would make suggestions as to where to drive if you decide to make a second attempt specifically in Pomona, but any suggestions I might make w o u l d be extremely biased by my fondness and nostalgia for the area. I do very much applaud your quickness in responding to comments, and how seemingly well you handle criticism especially from dumb CZcamsrs like me. Good luck to you.
No need to apologize, we appreciate the feedback as it helps us to improve. I am especially frustrated with some of the errors such as getting the street name incorrect. For some reason Garvey Ave out near El Monte stuck in my head and we did not catch it and a couple of other miss steps.
I too am fond of Pomona and wanted to present it in fair light not focusing on some of the negatives of other videos, but not acting like the city doesn't have some challenges. We actually captured a few hours of video of Pomona over several weeks, but getting the filming to an acceptable quality was harder than the narration, which is clearly very weak. Filming through a windshield is apparent subject to time of day, direction of travel, and can change as you are doing it.
After weeks of struggling with this we finally decided to publish something so we could start to learn from the work we put it.
This resulted in the errors that we missed.
We repeated some of the errors and made some new ones with our Irvine video. But I think we got a little closer to the mark with our Bell Gardens video. We are hoping our next City Profiles video will be a step up from all of the previous with a better camera and filming strategy as well as better attention to detail.

Someday we will redo the Pomona video correctly, but we are going to get some more experience and do it right next time.

Forgot about the 210 freeway
From current maps we did not feel Pomona crossed the 210 although we know that some area of the 210 were called Pomona in the past. We suspect those were actually unincorporated parts of LA County that have been picked up by the other cities.

Damn not a single mention of my hometown, right next door; we share the Fairplex. Ahh well.
We try to rotate between the Southland Counties. We are only about four months into the channel and learning a lot. We hope you stay with us till we get to San Dimas or Valencia which we believe are the cities bordering Pomona. BTW, we did get a lot of footage from the area around the Fairplex including the great view of the Pomona Valley from right there, but we were not happy with the quality of the footage, so we could not put it up. Stick with us and we will continue to do better.

I don't think Pomona is all that bad. It has some challenges, but the devil lurks everywhere he just wears different clothes in different neighborhoods. What I have noticed is that Pomona has a lot of Angels. There are real efforts in Pomona to help homeless people. I also noticed having don't several City Profile videos now, that the report from Pomona Police department, seems more heartfelt and thought out then many communities. I got the impression reading it that they care even though there are clearly challenges and problems. Cities that are open to things like street taco vendors are open to being accused of being 3rd world, because too many of them gives that impression. However, those individuals are just honest people trying to earn a living. Plus many of them make great tasting tacos. I hope you rethink your thoughts on Pomona and the rest of the cities in the Southland. SC

A few years ago there were at least 45 murders in Pomona. It's basically a smaller LA.
I'm also sorry to inform you that Pomona is infested with gangs and gangsters. Prostitution is rampant too. I know every city has its bad parts and bad people but Pomona? Well let's just say you don't look for problems in Pomona because you will definitely find it

Pomona is hard. Always has been! I remember listening to Cameo, The Gap Band, Barkays, Brick, Slave, George Clinton. Zapp. Rick James. Easy E. Tupac. There wasn't a whole lot of white families when I was growing up there. But the brothers and the Vatos took me in. Gave me the street education. Damn, I miss the music from those times. I live in Arizona these days, but still got Love for Ptown!
Pomona is a unique town like that. There are the hard portions and then the affluent portions. They have gentrified a lot of the areas near downtown with college apartments. It's a strange blend of neighborhood with century old homes right next to modern apartment structures.

The stupid city does not make the city better!!!
Pretty common issue these days, but I think that their efforts to have a number of homeless outreach operations in the city is some of their challenges. They clearly make a greater effort to help than their neighboring cities. It could be debated if those efforts are the correct ones or not but they clearly are trying.

In the last decade the demographics of many Southland communities have changed dramatically. Pomona has primarily shifted to Hispanic. However, other communities in the area have shifted to heavily Chinese and other races.
