@@rc3394Don't blame CZcams, it's the people or the corporations that own the copyrights that force CZcams to block certain videos. Some copyright holders don't mind others using their content and some even encourages it while others won't allow it, even if it's broken up with pauses.
What I've noticed is most musical artists that own their own content usually don't mind it and it's mainly when big corporations own the content that they don't allow it.

IMO this version of Sound of Silence is probably the most powerful song that I've ever experienced.
Even after hearing this version hundreds of times over the past several years I feel the emotional power and connection of it every single time.

In watching the video, their cover and images seem to center upon music. Do you feel from your perspective as a professional musician that they ('Disturbed' and perhaps Paul Simon) are saying something specific about the music industry itself? Or is music simply a metaphor?
Experienced. That is the only word to describe hearing this song. You don’t “listen” to it. You don’t dance to it. You EXPERIENCE it. S&G gave us the poetry, David Draiman gave us the warning

Yes!! It is an experience. I differ slightly in the last part, in that, S&G gave us the warning, and David is now scolding us for not heading S&G's original warning. One last chance, basically. But of course, just my opinion. Most powerful song/message/experience combo I've ever come across.
More S&G gave us a warning.. David expressed his anger in the warning being ignored.
I'm 68, my niece is 37. We both LOVE this incredibly moving version of the song. The lead's amazing range and interpretation of the lyrics makes me play it over & over.....

David Draiman...one of the best male vocalist's on the planet! Can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor to awesome rasp and grit and back again on a dime!! Amazing voice control and so soulful and powerful ! His range is also to die for! He's got it ALL !!

I have ALWAYS loved this song, but I always felt that, given the message, it lacked gravitas - and David KILLED THIS! Even Paul Simon said that this song basically belonged to Disturbed now. No better compliment.

Great reaction, once again! Best comment I've read about this version of the song was that Simon & Garfunkel gave the warning of where our society was going, and Disturbed's version was anger that we've ignored that warning...I quite literally grew up with the original song, and loved it, but, always felt - like many others - that the music was almost "too soft" for those amazing lyrics. Disturbed's version - and David Draiman's incredible voice! - had as much power as the lyrics...and, this is now my favorite version of the song.

I first heard this when I was hard at work, and it came over the radio in the back-round. i am tone deaf, and cant sing a note, but I know, and appreciate people who can SING. Only wish I was graced with that gift. When I heard it, I stopped in my tracks. The hairs on my neck bristled, and my heart missed a beat or two. My soul was opened bare. It was like I was being admonished by an Angel. One of the most beautiful and meaningful songs I had ever heard. To me that is, but that's what its all about, isn't it?

Despite being sick that day, lead singer David Draiman delivered a performance for the ages, complete with an orchestra. Conan celebrated the video of their performance as it was the first video from his show to get 100 million views.

Yes, your response was mine --- 100%...I just heard this song for the first time last week, and I'm obsessed. I can't stop listening to it, singing it, and watching reaction videos to it. Amazing. I knew the original S&G version, and it was good, but this one is GREAT. Perfection. Inspiring. Yes.
Everything about this song moves me. The instruments building up in intensity, the visuals of the storyline, even the play of light on David Draiman's face draw your attention to the brilliant lyrics written by Paul Simon. David Draiman's vocal performance was nothing short of brilliant. The way he interpreted the song and his vocal capabilities seals the performance. It is like listening to an angel and a demon contemporaneously. It's become of my favourite songs.

David has such a powerful voice. Trained as a cantor, he’s got such a clear, beautiful tone that is such a complement to the grit and growl in the harder edges.
There are so many Disturbed songs you would love. David Draiman is a master vocalist. A great one for you watch next is The Light.
When the original artists give praise to your version and they tell you it moved them, that's a good cover. This song, despite being out in this form long before the current events, really fits and is truly a moving masterpiece. Not a fan of the original and was hesitant to listen to this one but am glad I did and have hundreds of times since and still feel an emotional, visceral response every single time.
Disturbed is a truly great band ,many of their songs deal with depression , addiction and loosing those around us . David's voice brings the anger of things being over looked.......please try Into the Fire.....just know some of their videos bring a lot of feelings.

I'm 62 and not a metal head but oh his voice. This touched my soul. I cried
Loved your reaction! Middle aged woman here closer to 60 than 50. Grew up loving S&G but also fell in love with this version and then went down a Disturbed trip. I've never been into heavy metal, but I now have a number of their songs on my playlist. You must hear "Down With the Sickness" since that is Disturbed's signature song. I went through a depressed period and would play "The Light" on loop sobbing as I drove to work each day, with hope I would get back to light eventually. I did and then looped Are You Ready (Sam de Jong Remix) as I found my strength again.
There are some who argue over the Sound of Silence versions by Simon and Garfunkel, Disturbed and Pentatonix. I love them all for difference reasons and moods.
Did you notice on the ending that the boat was full of instruments going to the people with the music on the land. Such deep meaning there. No one does this song better than David. Chills every time I hear it. I loved your reaction and like others, thank you for not pausing!! If you are not familiar with Disturbed, listen to Down with the Sickness, totally different sound.

Yes I saw it. People typically close their eyes at this point because of the crescendo of the music but to me, this is the most important part. They bring hope, joy and music to the world of Silence. Awesome.

For a Disturbed song that really got me, Reason to Fight. Saw it live and DAMN. I never thought a metal concert would make me cry, but they found a way!
A really good Disturbed song is Hold on to the Memories! It’s about Dia de los Muertos...as long as your loved ones are remembered, their souls remain intact in the afterlife. It’s so well done, I know you would love it. It’s more like this song you just reviewed, not so heavy metal like the majority of their catalog.
It’s hard to explain why this song gets to you,, isn’t it? But it does, it really does. I’ve watched the original and Conan versions over 100 times, and I still get goosebumps and chills every time. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

my reaction was the same as yours, this song is so full of emotion, after hearing disturbed sound of silence i am a fan of all of their music, David Draiman is my all time favorite singer, x
What I love about this whole thing is how it all stacks. For example, at the beginning of the song he mentions 10,000 people maybe more. People talking without speaking. People hearing without listening. If you want to take this literal, it's talks about everything from politics to the way we are on social media. We throw out opinions but we don't state what we mean anymore. We just keep throwing out facts real quick and fast, but we no longer take the time to actually enunciate what are actual thoughts are. We tell people we hear them but we don't really take anything in. Honestly in this video, The sound of silence probably isn't quiet it's probably just noise. As the video goes on as they pick up each instrument you hear the instrument come into the song. And it's like actual music piercing through the noise something worth hearing as opposed to just 10,000 people speaking but not saying anything.

That we speak with no real meaning behind what we say, almost like we blurt out whatever is in our minds at the time, but we don't TALK about what we should be,
and we almost 'pretend' to listen to other people, just waiting for our turn to speak again.
We TALK, but we don't SPEAK.
We HEAR, others are talking but we don't LISTEN to what they're saying.
We could also argue 'the neon gods we made' as talking about our phones. We basically can't exist without them anymore. (Nothing against tech, by the way. It just seems to control us at this point.)
I know this song came out before cellphones were a thing, but SO much of this song translates almost PERFECTLY to modern times.

Awesome reaction. As a Disturbed fan long before they did this cover, I knew David would knock it out of the park, but I had my jaw on the floor like you did when I listened the first time. I much prefer this version to the live version because I think the video had so many more layers to the song with the visuals. And his rage comes across so much more powerful. I think we're supposed to pick up on his rage at the fact that we haven't learned the lesson yet that Simon and Garfunkel sing about Over 50 years ago.
Paul Simon heard discover bye disturbed and it brought tears to his eyes. He said David draiman was meant to sing this song. Quite high praises.
I really like their cover of Stings if I ever lose my faith in you. I also like inside the fire. However, it does deal with the very sensitive topic of suicide of which David has a PSA at the beginning regarding suicide. When he was 16 he came across his girlfriend who had committed suicide.
And the fact that he wasn't sick while filming the music video really helps push the emotion in it. ^^

I've heard this song many, many times and cried each time. To me, the most beautiful part is the very end. The boat of people crossing the water to rescue the silent ones is absolutely bone-chilling. It says "Hope" in a way my very soul hears. David, you must have heard this a million times, but thank you. I have a place to go now when the world is too broken for me to bear.

I think you might be really fascinated to hear Disturbed sing Down With the Sickness. It would give you an idea of their usual style and you’d get a real true feel for how big of a departure this version of Sound of Silence was.
It's a rare thing to hear a cover of an old song that I enjoy more than the original. I am old enough to remember Simon and Garfunkel doing this one. Of all the artists who have sung this, Disturbed is there only one to fully capture the emotions of the song. You don't simply listen to the song, you experience it.

David Draiman was raised as an orthodox Jew. He went to school to become a Cantor. A Cantor sings Everything the rabbi Cantors have very deep, luxurious,, velvety, rich voices That have to sing in low notes and hold them for a while. I love listening to a cant even though it's in Hebrew I don't need to understand it because the passion comes across in the cantor's Voice. Obviously he did not become a Cantor. On September 10th Disturbed released their cover of If I Ever Lose My Faith In You. It's a cover of a sting song. You will really enjoy it. Just like this video not what you would expect from Disturbed
Watching people react to this song has become a hobby of mine. Doesn't matter if it's the official music video or the live on Conan. I will say watching you react to the various parts of the song was great and really displayed your emotion to the emotion in the song. Great video.
Live on Conan from 2016 will knock your socks off!!!! Paul Simon officially said this song belongs to them now. And he has added it to his playlist.
I salute you for doing a reaction video in the correct way. Too many reaction videos think that they need to pause and give idiotic comments. I've seen other reactions to this video that were paused so they could make stupid comments about his facial expressions, piercings, and such. Breaking the flow of the song because reactionaries believe they need to interject pisses me off. You, my friend- have the correct approach: let the song play, and the look on your face says a thousand words. Bravo!

I was going to say the same thing, but probably not as well as you did. I love watching someone discover something epic like this. It's almost as if you're watching a small child experience something wonderful for the first time, and I don't mean that in any condescending way. It's just very refreshing to see a reaction where someone isn't concerned about how they appear, and that reaction is real.
And people say metal is nothing but noise and screaming....shows how little people really understand metal. Awesome reaction yet again....
