    Have you checked out the electric A/C compressor or have you noticed any issues with the A/C? Those pumps are pretty notorious for breaking down internally, causing aluminum to get pushed through with the refrigerant and the high voltage shorting/bleeding into the low voltage 12v system.
    The insulation, also called the isolation, is a system that monitors and ensures the isolation between the 12v low voltage system and the high voltage system. If it detects high voltage on the 12v system, it will throw an isolation fault. There is a braided mesh wire (12v) within the insulation of the high voltage wires that is monitored throughout the system and common chassis ground. If a wire gets pinched, wire insulation breaks down, or a component (such as the electric A/C compressor) shorts internally, the system will measure higher voltage on the 12v system and throw said fault. You can usually narrow it down by disconnecting or isolating components and HV wires, then monitoring the isolation test values to see if the high voltage is still present on the 12v system. That requires the BMW diagnostic software though... just be careful and don’t work on a live hv system.

      I think you are right... I'm having the same issue with the below threshold isolation.... additionally the a/c compressor shows a an INTERNAL FAULT. not moving or else.. Short circuit might be causing the isolation problem. I'll disconnect the HV cables to the a/c while the new/remanufactured compressor arrives...
      typical codes are as follow :21F0E3 21F0E4 22280F 222814
      there are some TSB addressing this problem.

    Hi Shaun, I'm having the same problem with my car and I finally found the EME module online but after watching your video, maybe it can be fixed without me having to replace it. I was just wondering, do you know what coding tool you need to have if the EME has been replaced or anything changes with it? I'm not sure which scanner tool I should be looking for and I cant move forward without it. Thank you!

    • @ShaunDobbie
      @ShaunDobbie  Před 4 lety

      You need the full bmw ista system and possibly an icom programmer to allow module replacement. A basic ethernet obd cable works for diagnostic and programming.

    Hi. I just got the same message and after talking to bmw, it seems it may be due to a software problem in external charging stations!?
    Any new insights on this?

      I don't have the car anymore, but in my case it was the ac compressor.

  • @JeffDietzel

    • @ShaunDobbie

      @@ShaunDobbie Wait... you didn't use the safety HV disable connector in the front of the car?? The same one used when swapping the 12v battery.
      That's the ONLY way to know the HV is completely disabled!

    • @ShaunDobbie
      @ShaunDobbie  Před rokem

      It was deactivated as I either used the disconnect in the front or the disconnect on the HV connector itself. It's impossible to remove the high voltage cable without deactivating the system.
