Hell and Heaven and everything in between werent shown, but heard about, when we saw Hell at first, Dean had chains through his body in a never-ending cyclone of lightning storms and blood and he was tortured to death then brought back for 4 months, which was 40 years in hell. Now that everythings more casualized, you can truly feel Kripkes spirit leaving the show. Kripke made sure to tell, and not show because your imagination was gonna conjur something worse than their budget could come up with, rendering your nightmares to be truly nightmares.
