Also, just thing, Walkabout is Like my Racing Pigeon Sophie. When I ever feed them, she will often fly up to my shoulder and then walk down my arm and sit my wrist and then wait for me to give her a bit of food. Pigeons are a wonderful animal and are very smart.
This is the way it suppose to be when racing pigeons or any other animal, Love, Trust ..I see so many videos on youtube that really tee me off the way they handle their birds and by chasing them around the coop...The coop is HOME for these awesome birds, they should feel safe, secure, loved....Hats off too Young Pharaoh for asking this man who made this video , what is the right way to build a strong relationship with his birds!!....:).
Exactly what I thought. You must think about them as living creatures with feelings rather than works of art of breeding. Here their owner is petting them, hand feeding - this is the way it should be. I still think that the whole sport is a bit barbaric, but at least there's love and a sense of home for the birds.

My dad used to breed pigeons as a kid, and got back into it. He got me hooked, so we're pushing it to the next level which is going long distance. Any tips for a novice such as myself?
waw these ladies are super healthy & beautiful , i have other birds as well' but i could sit & stare my pigeons whole day!!! & i wud trade in all my birdies for pigeons , i really like them😊😊😊😊
It's not a matter of needing them to be tame, they are naturally tame because just like my dogs and horses they have total trust in me and so show affection. I'm not losing birds to thieves, or because they are also free to go out in any weather they choose, and I'm losing no more birds to predators than any other loft that like you prefers to keep their birds afraid of their owner.
We make mention of not feeding peanuts because of the generally held myth that one has to use them to get birds tame, which is not correct in our case. However, we don't actually feed peanuts because we use a well balanced commercial feed mixture from Gem Supplements, and have found adding peanuts to their diet made no difference to their racing performance.
peanuts should be a treat- they are very high in fat and protein and oils. Peanuts are nutritious, and pigeons love them, but they are not good to use in exclusion of regular grain feed. The tameness of the bird shows the fancier is gentle with them. this happens by spending time with the birds, and not frightening or mishandling them.
heres a uestion i really want answer to please: why do you need them to be tame? i used to race pigeons in My native country and i love the fact that they were completely untamed that made it so much harder for predators and other people to catch them in the even of severe whether ect. its just my personal opinion. please explain your reasons...thank you

Great video sir, how do you keep staying in good relationship with your birds this way? Is there any specific thing you would like to give me as an advise to make my birds trust me this way? They used to eat from my hand but when they grow up and with time, I feel that they fear me and that makes me unhappy actually, I wanted to build a good and close relationship with my racing pigeons, now I'm failing. Also how many times do you sir feed them daily? One time, two times whats better? And I have noticed you wrote that you leave your pigeons free to go out any time in any weather, am I right or I misunderstood? Thank you for posting this beautiful video.
My birds are naturally tame because just like my dogs and horses they have total trust in me and so show affection. Perhaps your problem is caused because you chase them around the loft when you need to basket them. I feed two times each day. Other than torrential rain, they go out every day for 3 hours.
Thank you so much, sir, for responding but also for giving me this information, yes sometimes I chase them when I need to catch them, and until short time I didn't know that what I do is wrong, I stopped it now and I hope everything will be fine. Now like you sir I feed my pigeons two times daily and also I let them out for almost 3 hours daily, at the beginning I used to let them free 12 hours daily and they come at the night to eat and sleep, now I also organized that I let them fly only 3 hours. Once again, I thank you so much for these important information, and for your fast respond, I appreciate it, and I wish the best for you sir and your beautiful smart/strong pigeons.

I do not use supplements. To achieve silky soft feathers, let them have a bath in clean water at least once each week and do not overcrowd the bath with too many birds.

I do not keep any strain and no matter what bloodlines I just pair best to best selected by racing performance.
