  • This is a project I've wanted to try for a long time, It turned out far better than expected, this thing goes like a rocket.. A few teething problems with one hub motor but I'll sort that out in the next vid when the new hall sensors arrive.
    Thanks BigBattery.com ( bigbattery.com/?ref=266 ) for supplying the 72v Falcon batteries, they performed flawlessly and far exceeded my expectations.

    With that much power, I imagine it will be pretty good at towing too. Not just heavy ATV or small trailers, but things like harrows too. This may very well prove to become one or your favourite tools for certain jobs. An ingenious idea to convert it to electric rather than fixing what would be a relatively mediocre ICE ATV. Whilst EV/battery technology still has some way to go, this also nicely demonstrates quite how far we have come already. A very enjoyable and fascinating video.

    • @alskjflaksjdflakjdf
      @alskjflaksjdflakjdf Před 9 měsíci +6

      I'm not sure it would have enough torque to pull harrows. Looking at similar hub motors online they appear to have about 350Nm of torque, so 700Nm torque combined. A 12kw tractor will typically output up around 5000Nm at the wheels due to the effect of gearing. So in effect, the motors that Marty is using are great for high speed, but not something like pulling heavy loads. I'm just an armchair critic and you might be more right than I think. I would love to see Marty T test it... :)

    Well Marty I might be 5 days late to this video , certainly no shortage of smiles though, what a great creation ,repurposing old hub motors onto a free quad, ice thing about whatever the torque rating is , you have 100% all the time , at 30% it ran great , then both batteries in parallel and then turned up to my guess 40%, it goes really well, the 2nd battery on the front is good, it'll stop you from dong wheelies 🤣 it'll be a hoot to use to go and pick up your mail, your battery life on those is going to last you quite awhile, there is almost no weight for them to push, i look forward to the next video, my friend here in central Canada where we get lots of snow, his wife bought him a EGO battery powered snow blower, a 2 stage unit, I got a chance to use in 10 inches of fresh snow and man does it work nice, throws it 50 feet and you get a solid hour out of the 2- 7.5 amp/hr batteries that are 56 volt, when my gas unit dies, that is what i am buying and it is built as strong as my gas unit, 👍 BTW Marty was Dr. Nefario your teacher or influencer 😉 just curious

The "big red" 300 that marty has is the identical Honda trx 300fw that was sold in America but the tank was rebadged with Big Red instead of fourtrax... the 88 300s came with a slightly higher lift and duration camshaft, did timing chain,harder chain guides,a different header,and a slightly larger pilot jet and main jetting which produced slightly higher torque and hp ratings than the 1990 and later models..

    Either two micro switches or a circular encoder would be great on the steering tube to activate a specific state where when you turn the ATV, the inside drives either disconnect and freewheel or they reduce power (probably the better, but i'm not sure how easy the programming is on that brain box).

    Wow 15 kw on a small quad is insane, be careful with that. One of those motors going through the existing diff would have been plenty.
    One of those motors would probably run your saw quite well.
    Self vulcanising rubber plumbers tape is great for making seals around things like that shielding around the wires, I hope the silicone lasts but will probably leak soon.
    Great bush engineering once again.

    You are a Wizard! The road you were looks like some of the trails here in the Smokey Mountains in east Tennessee. Beautiful.😊
