U must ain’t been to Pg county MD outside of Dc. It’s the richest black county in the U.S. 50% of it is hood but the other 50% is wealthy. A lot of black lawyers, doctors, teachers, nurses etc. I’m from Dc and I was surprise wen people said they never had a black teacher & black doctor before. I had black teachers my whole life same wit black doctors

Great info! My family will be relocating to the South ATL suburbs in the spring. One pro I would add is if someone is looking to purchase a house, the property taxes are VERY REASONABLE compared to what I’m used to in the Chicago suburbs.
Beware of the Scammers and Con Artists. They are rampant. I lived there (Acworth) a suburb north of the city. It is a great city other than that. I am moving back because I am getting married and he lives there. He was born and raised. The natives are friendlier than those who move from other cities / states.
Using this video 2 years after it came out! I really appreciate the professionalism and attention to detail. This feels much more organized than a typical "Don't move to Atlanta before watching" video.

You make a lot of good points. My advice to people - and you did kind of say it in the video - This is Atlanta! Don't come here thinking that it is supposed to be like where you came from. I've found marta to be pretty sufficient for day to day use if you live relatively near a station. I got an apartment right near north avenue and can take it to where I work at the airport. It's way cheaper and easier than owning a car. The stations south of peachtree (except the airport) do get pretty sketchy after dark though.
I think you prresented a great profile of Atlanta!!! I moved here from Chicago 40 years ago and love every minute of it. The orices have jumped a lot in the last 2 years. But I still love the places. I have always gravitated to the Decatur area! But Atl is the city for me!
There is public transportation pretty much all over the metro - just not rail. I would not use the word segregated - that implies there are laws or gangs enforcing where people are allowed to live. Love your videos.
Atlanta is touted as a "diverse" city but it's really a segregated black/ white city as illustrated by many of your points. In so called metro Atlanta there are different cultures from different parts of the world but these people are all districted to black areas. Thank you for aaaa very informational channel
I disagree. I’ve been here since the mid 80’s. Black people thrive here better than any other city I’ve seen. You’re only segregated by MONEY. There’s zero resistance to you living anywhere you want in Atlanta. The only thing keeping you in Bankhead instead of Buckhead is your bank account.
@@itsabovemenow1016 haha. You are right that the city is about money, but there are many areas, subdivisions, etc that are either all or nearly all one race. Maybe it's just because people like living with people who look like them
That’s how it is in Dc. It’s diverse but segregated when it comes to the black & whites. Even our suburbs in Pg county MD is majority black. It’s similar to Atalanta. I was surprise when people told me they never had black teachers. I been to Dc schools my whole life and all my teachers was black growing up. Same with my doctors
This was a great video. I grew up in Chicago and lived in the Washington DC area for a while. I moved to Atlanta in 2017. I loved the explanation on why the traffic is so bad. I also like how you emphasized the fact that you have to have a car. The reality for most of us "Northerners" is that we are going to buy houses in the suburbs since Atlanta housing prices are so high. Also it can be challenging dealing with harsh realities of systemic racism leftover from Jim Crow era.
Wait. Where on this planet have you lived absent the "harsh realities of systemic racism"? I mean, c'mon, Negrophobia didn't begin below the U.S. Mason-Dixon Line in the late 19th century. (And, rather glaringly, neither Chicago nor D.C. could be construed as bastions of racial integration, innit?)
What Jim Crow left overs, ATL is as blue as it gets and is very diverse. Hollyweird is home here as well and it’s very liberal, this isn’t 1968. Racism was literally everywhere in different forms during the Jim Crow era
Atlanta's traffic isn't as bad as a lot of places. Numerous places in Cali. Dallas , Seattle, Boston, NYC are way worse. That's just off the top of my head....oh and Houston too...did I mention D.C. Detroit, Philadelphia, Chicago...now Atlanta's is close to #1 for disrespectful drivers
I’m from Virginia and I’ll argue all day long that it’s nowhere near as bad as the DMV area and considering the size I think it’s pretty reasonable honestly.
I love living in Atlanta. It gets pretty backwards if you go too far outside I-285, though. Also, the traffic in the suburbs is MUCH worse than the traffic in Midtown because people in Midtown don't HAVE to get in a car to get around.
Your videos are spot on and very educational. We’ve been here since 2015 and love this city. We now live in Canton however we do visit the perimeter often for all the amazing amenities. If we’re ever in the market for a realtor we’ll definitely seek your assistance.
I'm so glad I work remotely. The transportation system could be so much better but county politics have never been on the same page for decades to make it happen.
I lived in Atlanta for about 10 years off and on and outside of meeting and making new friends and moving from out of Virginia and the cost of living being cheaper. That’s the only thing that I like about living in Atlanta. I didn’t like the energy I didn’t like the vibe, I don’t know what the hype is all about people moving to Atlanta. I think they wanna move wherever celebrities are of Tyler Perry and other movie stars and actresses was residing in the DMV area. Everybody want to move here. I think people get the wrong idea about Atlanta. I love the DMV area where I’m at and it’s so unspoken of the metropolitan DC Maryland. Virginia area is amazing and of course yes there are places that are dangerous. Everywhere in the world has areas that’s dangerous and not dangerous, but the DMV has a whole. The metro system is amazing. We have three types of train systems in the DMV area. We have the main train system which is the metro which did have about 90 stations. They just opened up several more new stations on the silver line since November and just last weekend they opened up a new metro station so now it’s a total of 98 stations, and that’s just the main station which is metro but then you have two other additional train systems in the DMV area. You have the VRE, which is called the Virginia railroad Xpress, which is open to the public literally the public anybody is welcome to ride, but it’s geared toward people that work in DC that live about an hour out or so from Washington DC so you have the red line and the blue line the red line goes from Fredericksburg Virginia, which is about an hour or so south of DC and it goes from Fredericksburg Virginia to Union Station in DC. The blue line goes from Manassas Virginia Broad run Virginia to Union Station in DC which is roughly also about an hour or so south of the dc. And then, lastly when it comes to public transportation for the trend, do you have a train system called the Marc train. Where are you can connect to Baltimore there are a couple of stops on the metro, the main train that connects you to VRE amtrack and the Marc train. To piggyback more on the Marc train it’s basically your Baltimore transit train system. Gotta take me to BWI airport other stations in Maryland and also connections by bus and other means of transportation getting into Philadelphia Delaware and not to mention in the DMV area we have three airports we have Reagan national airport, which is technically still in Virginia by like a mile or two from DC it’s in Arlington, Virginia Which is also a great city in the metro DC area then we have Dulles airport, which is in Loudoun county and since November now the metro goes to Dulles airport. And of course we have the BWI airport which is in Baltimore or close to Baltimore. Which is about 40 minutes north of DC. The cost of living is a bit much but they make it up because they pay very well. Here you can survive here if you work and put your mind to it, we may not have movie stars and celebrities here but the food scene is amazing here all over the DMV, the DMV is surrounded by water so there’s a lot of areas that’s near water for fun that you can do because we’re in the tri-state area in the DMV area. We have several different bus companies but because it’s in the DMV area they all take smart trip card. Which would be like your breeze card in Atlanta so because any of the towns and cities that’s close to DC on the Virginia side and close to DC on the Maryland side if it’s anywhere within an hour or so from DC the bus company takes those cards It can get a little confusing because the pandemic some of the bus companies are free still till this day. Prince William County buses are free and Alexandria buses are free. Except for metro buses and Fairfax County connector. They are not free. You might want to consider moving to the DMV area. I would highly suggest the Virginia side even though I live about 8 miles from DC. There’s so much to do on the Virginia side I really have no need to go to Washington DC unless there’s something I really really need to do or something I really want to see.
Great info! We are moving this month and have received some of the north vs south advice that i feel was a bit r***ist and totally out of date. Your info is honest and reasonable!!!
I’m from Atlanta and I love my city this is a great place to be shopping and great people but all these New Yorkers moved here and making it rude but I still love my city
I loved this video!! I’m planning to make a move from Cali to down there this year with my boyfriend and want to learn more about the city. We are gonna fly out later in the year for a week to visit apartments and just see which one best fits us. So I’m excited to see how the neighborhoods are out there compared to Cali (:
@Simon Sez♟️ Thank you so much and I heard there’s big bugs out there that I’m not fond of lol. Yes I do plan to start out with an apartment and see which area is for me and settle down and purchase a home. Luckily my job is transferable with Cali pay so I think I’ll be alright!
The hardest thing for me about considering leaving NYC is dealing with the culture shock of going into cities where there’s racism heavy. I’m use to many cultures, ethnicities, etc and being around others of a different culture and race is the norm. I also do not believe in “right to bear arms” for regular everyday citizens… but with the kind of home I want I would have to be a millionaire to afford it here in NY 😩
Racism heavy 👀umm I’m not familiar with the heavy racism you’re talking about…. NY is not safe haven in that regard in my opinion. Rudy Giuliani was the mayor of that city after all 👀👀
@@raymondrileyjr so are you saying in Georgia racism isn’t more prevalent than it would be like in a place like NY??? Is that what you are saying? Hmmm… Rudy Giuliani? I don’t see your point. 🤔
@@raymondrileyjr nah it's not a fear of it here in NY. Stop and frisk was an issue but that's gone now. Rudie is the reason why NY is so expensive now. The mayors that were is successor actually made this worse. I did visit the A a few years ago and I loved it. I need to be with my people and thrive with them as well. How are the barbershops out there?
Stuck? Montana has to be better than Georgia. Just moved back here after 4 years in Colorado. The humidity and bugs are the worst. Wouldn’t live inside the Atlanta perimeter for any wage. Frankly, get out of major metropolitan areas if you can. If you disagree, check back with me in a year and tell me I was wrong. Atlanta sucks.
Love the sign in the background bro. Great insight. I’ve been between LA and Atlanta. I love the beach life and want to get into film and acting. So many young ppl in LA so chill such a vibe. Atlanta seems a little scary with the crime for me to be honest. There’s so many opportunities there and it’s really green. I’d imagine cost is a little cheaper than LA
I’d definitely tell you to research each specific area in (LA & ATL) and comp the data. This site is awesome with giving a ton of data at one place: www.city-data.com Real Estate Value proposition in Atlanta is unmatched when comparing to LA. Thanks for watching and commenting. Also check out my channel for more videos about the different suburbs in Metro Atlanta.
I would put the cost as a major con. You might be able to get yourself a mini McMansion but then you have to drive 30minutes just to get to the dang grocery store. In the places it’s more walkable that 400 becomes more like 650. Everyone from NYC, Chicago, and LA are making it close to impossible to find housing and our rental prices are through the roof. That being said, I do agree with a lot of your points! I loved this city but it feels like it’s loosing its soul because the people that make Atlanta Atlanta are getting priced out.
As a queens nyc girl what is thru the roof my studio is 1429 i pat electric i want to move my job with Verizon to downtown Decatur. I want more suburbs but city access and walkability nyc is to dangerous and dirty just not worth it considering taxes are like 9% and so many taxes per 1.000 bucks you see maybe 750 of that which is crazy.
Great video! Im a realtor in Michigan and im really thinking about moving to Atlanta. Most likely would be outside of Atlanta. I do have family there which is a pro ☺️
Who moves to ATLANTA to take MARTA? I left New York in 2002 and was determined not to take public transportation. I took MARTA once and it was a field trip. Lol!
Best pro/con video on Atlanta I've seen so far... and I've watched MANY... I think I'm gonna go to Savannah instead though :) cheaper and there's a beach. Tell me how Wikipedia also says Savannah's Black population isx 2% higher than Atlanta?! That might just be because of the smaller population though... Keep it up. You deserve WAY more subscribers.
Thank you! Savannah is a BEAUTIFUL city and the proximity to Tybee and Jekyll Island is simply unbeatable. You’re going to love it. I visit down there often. As far as the population comment I can definitely believe it. You have a high migration away from Valdosta and Jacksonville into Savannah. Also Savannah State University is there so a ton of us folk down there and fall in love with the area. I’m wishing you a smooth move 😎
As a native of Savannah, GA it's not livable unless you're 40+ with children, retired, ghetto, okay with earning less than 70k annually and don't mind being around mentally challenged, close minded, ignorant, hateful ppl. The only thing to do there is go to the beach and bars downtown. But that gets old quick.
The only reason they have the biggest and busiest airport is that other large cities have two airports, ATL is putting all that stress on Hartsfield Jackson when they really need a second airport
This video was very helpful I’m thinking of moving to the Atlanta area, wished I would had done it before I moved to Brunswick from Savannah area a year ago but I hate it here in Brunswick new subscriber if I see something I will most definitely be reaching out
Definitely I’d love to work with you. Even if you just need a quick private consultation feel free to schedule a zoom meeting with me. 🔗Link in the description of the video.
@CC. LL yeah Savannah is good if you’re over 40 with a family and or retired. Although it will be a peaceful environment to raise children, there’s not children friendly things to do there.
I can't imagine how natives feel having to deal with all these people moving in droves to Atlanta. I would be so annoyed. I have been contemplating moving to Savannah for a few years now, but I wanna move when I can comfortably afford to buy property there. Atlanta is no longer attractive to me anymore. The crime and traffic are some of my detterents.
trust me we are. and a lot of the newer things in georgia is to attract those people which makes it worse. It means we get a lot of Californians, NY, essentially anyone with money who likes our economy and land availability. and they usually contribute NOTHING and complain about EVERYTHING but still move here
And you think Savannah doesn’t have the same problems? I’ve been to Savannah and not as a tourist. Except for a small part of “rich” Savannah and people with second homes out on the islands, it’s all broke people black and white working middle to low wage jobs. Atlanta is diverse in its OPTIONS to do better for yourself.
I hasn’t been easy and I don’t want to regret it all the complaining from newbie is annoying…and All the folks moving here is why it’s so expensive now,
Atlanta has extremely High Crime.....lived there for many years before it became the so-called Black Mecca, I lived there during Wayne Williams time unfortunately.
I live in McDonough but work in Marietta( around the Braves stadium) Let's just say thank God we're only in the office 2 days outta the week because as everyone can contest too is the dam horrible TRAFFIC and ACCIDENTS ‼️‼️‼️ I'm about 30mins from downtown and about 25mins from airport it literally takes me about 1.5hrs to get home(or longer) with 5pm traffic. Have a good playlist because it's gonna be a while. Mind you minus any traffic it's about a 40min straight drive down 75N to my job. I personally hate it... be prepared to send about $150+ on going out downtown... your paying about $10-$40 bucks on parking, another $10-$20 to get into the club/lounge, then food + drinks... yeah it definitely can get expensive‼️ I moved from TX to GA and should have stayed in TX...( my personal choice). I will say there are a lot of things to do locally and all throughout GA. We have done camping in North GA to Jeykl Island for the beach. I've been to sports games and there is a wide variety of things to do downtown. The deterrent for me is the traffic, and accidents, my insurance is very expensive just because of all the accidents in the state.
@@MsElfMannequin right its jobs but they are low paying. There's people with degrees here that cant get decent jobs because they degree is not high paying and in high demand.
To do good here yoi would need a degree in software engineering, computer science, high paying medical field trade koke sonography, or a high in demand trade like aviation or electrician. If you dont have that dont come here. Even some tech jobs are hard to get due to so many people applying.Theres way too many people and not enough decent paying jobs.
The city will spend more on making new lanes for the Peach Pass than a full investment on mass transit that works. The housing prices aren't affordable for the majority of natives and the rent prices are expensive even 45+ min outside the city. So if you are making 60K you will do okay living here, ideally making 80K will allow you to experience the full potential of the area, but if you make 40K and below then it will be hard.
Great video bro. I don't really see a problem with the segregation aspect. I don't care who I live next to, as long as they have common sense and respectful. I hear that Buckhead is a mostly upscale and black area. Is that true? I would love to live there. I'm more comfortable with my black people. Who are upward.
Thank you for your comment. I try to do my best to answer all you guys comments but sometimes they are missing some key components but let’s give it a try. Ok so if you’re making say $75K+ I’d say the following areas: Tucker, McDonough, Stockbridge, Dacula, Hampton, Fairburn, Newnan, Ellenwood, Mableton, Lawrenceville, and Marietta. If you’re making $48K-$75K I’d say: Norcross, Austell, Douglasville, Conyers, Covington, Monroe, Loganville, Snellville, Lithonia, Stonecrest and unincorporated Decatur (some pockets are a little troubling). If making $95K-$150k+ Tyron, Peachtree City, Fayetteville, Senoia, Johns Creek (lower diversity), Alpharetta, Roswell, Duluth, Milton (lower diversity), Dunwoody. I know this was a long answer but definitely reach out to me if you have any questions.
My bf and I are relocating to the Atlanta area in 4 months, he has already relocated for work so I have been able to visit a few times to check out the area. My biggest concern has been crime and safety where we live. We will be apartment living, we have a Goldendoodle so safe and clean walking areas are extremely important to me (the most important for me honestly). I have looked into the Vinings, Smyrna and Sandy Springs areas and THINK those seem like good choices but I haven't spent much time there though to REALLY know. I would love to know if you feel like those areas are a good move or not AND any other suggestions would REALLY be helpful. I wouldn't want to get somewhere and be regretting it lol. "Urban Suburban" Quiet and peaceful when we need it, but close enough to still have access with a short drive to all of the fun stuff.
Vinings and Smyrna are pretty good areas. Sandy Springs isn't too bad either. There are a bunch of apartments to choose from off of Roswell Rd in Sandy Springs. There is also a nice size park off of Roswell Road to walk yourself or with your pets. And that will put you close to Dunwoody which is where a lot of businesses like State Farm have major hubs there and you're closer to Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody as well. Which is one of the better malls out there.
I live in Vinings and it is a safe area. Cobb County in general is a good county to move to. I used to live in West Midtown and feel much safer in Cobb County than I did near downtown. Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, and north Fulton county like Alpharetta are also good.
I don't live around there yet, but I can't wait until the day comes when I find the MARTA a con. That will be when I know it has become my home lol. I am from the Cincinnati/Dayton Suburbs. Your MARTA is on my "pros" list. Admittedly seen more "crazy" on that train in 5 visits than all of my time here, or overseas but not been a victim yet lol. The average cost of a home in Beavercreek, Ohio... my neighborhood at the moment is is $329k, up 13.4% from last year. Average rent on a 1 bedroom apartment is well under $900. I rent one of the best 3 bedrooms in my neighborhood for under $1200. Excellent schools, low crime... ATL is expensive for us, but yes... not for most. You know why I am moving though. You have my weather, the diversity I want my kids around, my heart.
I was born and raised here so I’ve been here forever as well. I can definitely attest that Atlanta have crime but show me a place none. In my opinion to say there are no Pros in Atlanta sound like click bait to me. However, to each it’s own 🤷🏾♂️. Thanks for your comment.
Is Atlanta Downtown Decatur middles class friendly? Like on person making 50k and then other about the same? Or if one person broke up they could be comfortable? I personally want to he close to trains and close to city but don’t need to be in the city ima queens girl love being close to trees and walkability.
Great video! I want to move to Atlanta and I drive uber but that bugs part shook me... Any tips you have to give for uber driver? Like how much a uber driver can make daily, weekly or monthly. Thank you for this great video ❤️
i have a friend who lived just doing Uber for two years. He had a roomate though because a good place ain't cheap here. It's a target-rich environment for rideshare. Not like Savannah which only has a single touristy area and Uber drivers are stepping all over each other to pick people up. You can pick up people anywhere in the metro Atlanta. Hotels, colleges, the world busiest airport will keep you moving. But the con side is, man, are you gonna burn some gas and put the miles on your car.
@@recobageorge7050 Welcome, future Atlantan! We have rough patches like any city but we love to be hospitable. Upside is you'll find us generally polite to our Uber drivers. We still for the most part believe in manners.
Regardless of how you feel about police, the former mayor drove out half the department.(which was majority minority anyway) Atl now has a higher murder rate than, Chicago, DC, and Oakland.
I’m all about the facts and your comment isn’t “mathing”. Facts are important. I will not argue that the crime rate in Atlanta is elevated but not higher than Chicago or Oakland. Check this report as of 2022. worldpopulationreview.com/us-city-rankings/cities-with-most-murders

Great presentation. Super clear and concise. Thank you. Visited ATLANTA G a couple of weeks ago with my friend and I loved.

Facts!

It gets pretty backwards once you go 50 miles out side of nyc, your point? Most major cities are progressive
@@neox9369 My point is that's why I live in the city and not out in the car dependent suburbs.

1. traffic

Gotta take me to BWI airport other stations in Maryland and also connections by bus and other means of transportation getting into Philadelphia Delaware and not to mention in the DMV area we have three airports we have
Reagan national airport, which is technically still in Virginia by like a mile or two from DC it’s in Arlington, Virginia Which is also a great city in the metro DC area then we have Dulles airport, which is in Loudoun county and since November now the metro goes to Dulles airport.
You know why I’m gonna support you Relator Cause u said my favorite place . Mary Macs Tea Room !! Lawd that’s some good eating !

I’d definitely tell you to research each specific area in (LA & ATL) and comp the data. This site is awesome with giving a ton of data at one place: www.city-data.com
Real Estate Value proposition in Atlanta is unmatched when comparing to LA.

The pay is low
Let's not forget Caribou Coffee at 10th and Piedmont in Midtown. One of the best.
Job Market, Job Prospects should have been mentioned. If you do not have a specific skill Atlanta will be brutal for you.

Exactly! These people need to do their research about THE STATE OF GEORGIA before moving here. Because the entire state lacks decent jobs.
@@derricklyons2232 thank you for your comments.
💯

If you’re making $48K-$75K I’d say: Norcross, Austell, Douglasville, Conyers, Covington, Monroe, Loganville, Snellville, Lithonia, Stonecrest and unincorporated Decatur (some pockets are a little troubling).
If making $95K-$150k+ Tyron, Peachtree City, Fayetteville, Senoia, Johns Creek (lower diversity), Alpharetta, Roswell, Duluth, Milton (lower diversity), Dunwoody.

9:33 With gentrification it's beginning to be hard to tell which is the segregated line anymore.
I love Atlanta it has stuff to do here, like college I do recommend going here honestly, the only problem is just people here, like buckhead is now the new Bankhead now I have to go to Cobb county to go to the mall or to get food I just go there because it seems more chill, I’m planning on moving out of here, especially the area I live in it isn’t the best, i do respect people who like it here it’s just too toxic for me I can’t wait to leave, also for the people moving here I don’t recommend living in downtown the rent is to high, live more in the metro areas.
ATL hosts the worlds busiest airport
This is Gonna B Good🔥🔥🔥👍….
