They are the greatest band ever. End of story
They're a band beyond description
Yeah, I’d say there’s absolutely nothing controversial about your statement. 🙌🏻
There is nobody even in the same realm as them. Greatest now and forevermore.
And that's also where the story begins...Last Great Adventure of the 20th Century.
Hardly
“Give me five”
Jerry holds up four and a half. 🤣
Gotta hold the pick, lol
@@Sinsteel More like he's only got 4 and a half fingers on that hand haha
Yeah but he could do more with his four and a half than others with all five!
Ha
Axe
Jerry, center stage, enthusiastic, smiling...it's all a dream we dreamed one afternoon long ago. Brings a tear of joy to my eyes. As well as a big ol smile! Thanks Lolo for all you do for our community.
How we survive going from Wharf Rat to this, no fucken wonder why us Fans think outside the box!! 💘
Haven't seen this EVER performed with this enthusiasm! Go Boyz! After 140 shows, this was the best USB ever!
Saw a story on this show from someone at Duke U at the time. Apparently the higher ups were worried about this crazy rock n roll band stirring up the crowd too much. Leaving the house lights on, telling the band not to play too loud etc. Just the boys sticking it to the man with a rip snortin' US Blues to close the show
Jerry playfully mocking Bobby at 6:22 with the hand in the air and the overzealous "shout-singing" is maybe the funniest onstage moment I've ever seen with these guys. You can see Bobby even crack a brief smile afterward. They were really having a blast with this performance!
He totally did that, good catch
I missed that my first view! Lol! That's pretty funny!
Always worried Bobby was gonna snap his neck with the head tossing in those years.
About a decade later he gets him during Terrapin too
Ain’t never heard Jerry yell like that, or bounce around so much. Hot damn
cocaine is a powerful drug
Wow, I've never seen Jerry so animated on stage!
@Travis Stewart Yea ,thinking same . Good blow
@@bob733333 Do you have a link to that video? I tried to find it but I couldn't and I'd love to see it. I don't listen to much 60s Dead (I don't even know why because I ALWAYS love the stuff that I have heard from that era with Pigpen) mostly just because I forget about it, but that early psychedelic energy they had in the 60s was awesome for sure.

Yep, Jerry is RIPED!!
We're (and Weir) all on the same page! Bobby looks like he wants to bounce off the stage! I wish I'd been with them!!!❤️🍄🌠🐢🌹⚡💀(~);}
Penn state NC OREGON Plattsburgh NY , so many college's back in the Day 🌹🎶😜
When Jerry was INTO IT & animated, Good Lord....Unbelievably Incredible!!
you want to see the most animated...this entire show, especially drums. Jerry joins in 😀
My first show was almost a month later, up in Vermont.
I was gonna say that!
YEAH! Happy Fourth of July 2023~!!
jerry off dat good yayo
This is now one of my favorite versions ever !
I know we all heard & saw the same thing but wowee I never ever have seen JG bounce, smile, dance around, practically yell a few times, we miss you, Jerry!
Said with love, but it looks like they just played an amazing show, took their break before the encore, all did a big line each and are having a ball for one more tune before the aftershow fun!
Best us blues hands down
Tommy and Liam id have to agree with you. He never could really remember/nail the lyrics the way he does here
yep
This is the best version of this song I've EVER heard!
It is! how about drums in this show? Jerry and crew with the pots and pans joining in!! frigging love it
Even though I have this downloaded and have watched it many many times before......This STILL KICKS ASS!!!!!!
How can people give this one a thumbs down???
Mystery Babylon
The line kicked in right on time
Man I love seeing Garcia bouncing all around with joy
cocaine refreshments 😘
Great video, great version of this tune, Saw them at Dartmouth College about three weeks after this and they were great, small show, great sound, all good. I guess they liked college shows!
Saw them about twelve times and the best show by far was outdoors @ The U. Massachusetts Amherst, the only time I saw them @ a college. What an all day party, one for the record books, not ever to be repeated. 80,000 heads dancin to Shakedown St. during the last of three encores truly a sight to behold .
Great sound. Best USBlues I’ve seen
Woohooo! Damn if I don’t have a permagrin on now. My cheeks hurt 😊
Never seen the dead so amped up before
There may or may not have been powdered refreshments involved :)
@@chuckryan6065 Marching powder might have played a part, but the story I heard was the Duke officials insisted on keeping lights on over the crowd (to keep an eye on any potential partakers of the herb). They also asked the band not to get the fans riled up. This was the encore, so Jerry and the boys decided to crank it up .
@@RayNDeere Don’t doubt that story for a second but Jerry probably ripped a couple lines before the encore started just to get the kids really fired up
Hey now how’s it everyone ! I had an old VHS tape of this show and just watching Garcia bouncing around and throwing up his arms with the guitar 🎸 is so entertaining and the energy is just beautiful. I saw over 200 shows and never saw Garcia move that much this is what it’s all about folks Peace ☮️ from Hawaii 🎸🌺🐬🤙🏝🍄🏄🍺🦚🐳
I was just listening to a rebroadcast of a ‘big steve’ show on Sirius and they were talking about photographing the dead and how the band didn’t move around much except for Bobby, and the subtle nuances of their body language in stage, and capturing those moments.the guest mentioned 78 in Carolina where Jerry was really animated and how it brought a tear to his eye......
Looks like I found that concert
Love, Bliss, Energy, Happiness....HEAVEN!!!! THE GRATEFUL DEAD
As animated as you will ever see Garcia! This video is amazing!
My oh my oh my oh my my my my my!
Fun was had by all
Careful....Don't wake up Keith!
Keith who!?!!?
The day before I came into this crazy world
WOW!
Jerry is SO blowed here. He’s feeling it
US Blues : Weir pulls out a hunter's whistle ... the song starts, Garcia is bouncing all around,
1:22 song starts, Jerry's already dancing !
1:45 rolls out a big 'ol "I'm Uncle Sam, how do you do ?,
2:45 "Wave it wide & high" ... we are in for the ride folks !
4:00 beginning to heat, then
4:30 intensity rises, then
6:25 the wolves come out, ha !
Garcia is ALL over this tune, digging it thoroughly !
LoloYodel did u hear the Bertha from the show. Jerry is all over that
I love yous song breakdowns of the action!
Yeah the dancing Uncle Sam was cool too. Every year I send this as my Christmas present to a bunch of people. Hundreds sometimes. So here we go. Merry Christmas everyone 2017.
@@veek.6463 that is a great idea. thanks
Hello friend! How are your u doing! Just checking some blues before I sew your profile on CZcams. How is everything over there with you?
Thank you and good night
Taxes suck, but I can still watch Jerry dance. Hard to find. 🥀❤
Weir is pulling so hard here. Good on him. Beautiful rhythm.
Joseph And Mary!! Fantastic!!
Jerry is on fire! One of the best versions us blues. Happy july 4th!
Holy Smokes JG is hotter than the sun on this U.S . Blues
Jerry's wiped his nose a few times, Bobby's about to bounce off stage, Phil's ripped, Billy's shredding the drums (can't see Mickey) and Keith's not looking so good! 💀⚡🌹🐢🍄🌠(~);} Gotta love them!!!
Yeah Keith sure was coming unglued on this one huh?
Hello friend! How are your u doing! Just checking some blues before I sew your profile on CZcams. How is everything over there with you?
Jesus. When we were young and it was fun.
Thanks, man. And Happy Independence Day, y'all.
The music plays the band ..God Bless The Grateful Dead
This is great! Jerry is cracking me up! Thanks for the post!
Thank YOU for a real good time !!!
5:06
Phil making sure Mickey knows wtf he's doing :D
Jerry Muzak better without Mickey. He had his moments and we love him he’s cool but billy was the glue that held them together. Mickey slopped it up too much mostly for me.
@@jackstraw9999
I fully agree, Mr. Jack Straw, from Wichita.
@@jackstraw9999 Couldn't agree more. Mickey turned the Dead into a rhythmic slopfest once the 80s got rolling. No sense of playing for the song.....just banging whatever the hell is in front of him with wild abandon.
I think mickey was an great drummer who wrote and added more to the Dead than many Mickey haters don't see or hear. Not going to recite all the song examples but just remember. There's a reason Jerry wanted him in the band the 1st time 2nd time and backed him often. Billy was a terrific when it was just him but there was nothing extra ordinary about him.
Love the way they get real loud, and then real quiet!
thanks lolo! never seen jer so exuberantly salty in my life! hiiiiiighly spirited indivijul! rock on tough bwah! jog that bull!
Unfortunately in a few short years he’d become terribly strung out and equally unhealthy.
Thank you LoloYodel!
Thank you Jerry...for a real good time !
Animated Jerry Awesomeness
I love this so much
Haha love that little "Thank you" at the end. Very much appreciate your post!
Yeah, that cracked me up too!
One of the best vids on here
Give me five (holds up 4.5)...Weir cracks up. Classic.
Happy 4th!
I live for this shit
This is amazing!
You can hear the cocaine. Love me some cocaine-rockstar Jerry. God rest your soul you fuckin legend!
Just received a post with a very political angle : sorry mate(s), I won't accept politically oriented comments.
Haha lolo- said on a US blues video. Haha. Good job brother. Politics change and come and go. The Grateful Dead is here to stay. Peace and love too
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE YOU EVEN MORE NOW!!!!!!!!
LoloYodel: always thought of US Blues to be Watergate “inspired,” but understood - especially today. Appreciation of Dead, their music = entirely non-partisan, apolitical. Thanks for doing your part to keep it so!!
So glad you said this. Politics does not belong anywhere near Grateful Dead.
US blues is pretty obvious as far as it’s subject matter is concerned, a couple eggs might have gotten cracked, but the dead, not that other ummm company lurking in their shadow, were the ones who ended up cooking a delicious AMERICAN omelette we are still filling our bellies with to this day.
Lolo,
What happened to the version with the dancing uncle sam skeletons???? I will admit, that particular clip made my life happy when nothing else could. Thanks for being Grateful.
amazing performance
My song!😀
When they played they really played!
Gimme two of what Jerry’s having!
Jerry got a nose full of the pure stuff before the encore...:)
Have you seen the video of the Bertha>Good Lovin from this show? He's pretty riled up for that too (with a rockette high kick). The Eyes of the World is on fire also. Cheers
I still miss acid and quaaludes. Ooh, I think there's Maker's in back.
Happy July 4 !!!
appropriate song today
Man! Jerry was feeling it!
Amazing in a word the only ones that do what they do end of story 😂
Awesome as dope, dope as a deadhead, its the dead fine dope.
Amen Brothers!!!
Well that felt good.
A week before I first saw them live
Wow!!!!!??? Jerry is a trip!!!!!! Check out Billy going mental love it love it love it
They were on fire!
jer bear rockin'
Awesome...the band was on that night....and great sound!
The boys were on fire.
Total thrash metal, but 2:47 kicks some serious ass. Thanks Lolo - cl
50 shows in the 80s I miss the Jerry culture
WOW
Hotter than the sun
Better than coffee or a Red Bull in the morning.
Check out or guy center stage!
Fucking.
Rocking.
This is the most “Trey” I’ve ever seen Jerry.
so great....thanks for posting this!
Love it
Is it just me or do the boys always seem quite lively after the set breaks?
'78 was a big coke proliferation year for the band, it had always been around, but by the late-70s it had become mainstream, even to the point of freebase becoming not uncommon for users of the day either. So you're definitely not wrong in that assessment! Nice to see 'em moving like that from back then.
Giddy up!
Wow
Back in the days when even US Blues could be great.
That comment is wrong on so many levels I don't know where to begin.
It's easy to forget about how much Jerry used to Move onstage !!!!!
1:51 sorry to be so pedantic Jerry but that was only 4 and one half you gave us there, not 5.
Haha! Indeed, but he gave it all he had. Damn brother of his.
jerry was all jack-up
Listen closely... At 1:00 you'll hear a kid go "I love this song!" This...as they weren't playing anything LOL
Jerry’s hair is still black, gonna be a fun listen
i was so worried jerry was gonna pull a muscle or something
Damn
Whether enthusiasm, mocking Bobby, or white power, this is the most animated Garcia you'll see.
