Rescue in the L.A river sends us to help an unusual animal and kittens too!

- Our work requires us to improvise all the time and this time we had an unusual animal, and also help from the SMART Team. When I was 10 years old I was walking down our alley taking a short cut home. I heard a noise and stopped and listened. I went over to a metal garbage can where the noise was coming from. I looked inside and saw a small rat trying desperately to get out. He tried climbing the sides several times. I felt horrible for his desperation and didn't really see a rat, I saw an animal in distress. I tipped the can over and he scurried out and away.
Many will say "Oh my God it's a rat why would you do that ?"
My simple reply would be, when one has compassion and empathy it's not a selective process. The heart dictates the action.

To be honest, I buy many products not tested on animals, however, I admit, there probably are some that are. But I’m learning everyday about what is not tested on animals. Cotton is one I didn’t know. Thanks for that.

@The Observer There's also something against the rules of youtube...in fact, it's the first thing on their list of no-nos. Asking for "support" is just a non-verbal ask for donations. When you get there to watch their videos, they'll have a sad story about how much more they could do if you donated. So, I report all the spammers. There are two on here who are regulars. They have notifications turned on, because they're here posting for their channels as soon as HfP post anything. So, they get reported. CZcams ask you to send a URL of their comment and whose channel it was on, and if they keep it up, they won't have a channel for anyone to visit anyway. It's not done by reputable rescuers, but it is done by cash-grabbers.
Sarah Brown 😡 You again! Why are you acting in such a vile manner towards these people? Who gave you authority to police CZcams? It is clear you intend to destroy another channel come what may, despite all that they do to care for stray cats. Are you so twisted that nobody can ask for help even in the most simple of ways? It is you who need psychiatric treatment for your mental health as manifested in your continuing harassment of these people.
A question for you. What have you ever done from your own resources to help a needy cause, be it for people or animals? Or are you so entangled in your hatred of others never to have time for anything else in your life? Given your behaviour, I have no sympathy for you whatsoever.
I follow the Pawmeow channel and I can say they really help cats and dogs in Bulgaria at their own expenses, making a great job.
So if you can follow their channel, that is still little but run by real animals lovers.🤗🤗🤗👍

Ummm DONALD? It was poisoned, and any animal that ingested it would have been poisoned, too, up,and down the food chain. It's called "secondary poisoning." And before they got that diagnosis, another diagnosis could also have been a disease, and removing a disease vector from circulation would still have been the right thing to do. Trust me, I'm a wildlife rehabilitator, and they did the right thing in this particular urban circumstance.

@@jspin1103 Rats get a raw deal. It's not they who spread the diseases. It's the flees they carry on their bodies, yet dogs and kittens get to go to forever homes while rats are poisoned and euthanized. :(

@@Narujen exactly. I was watching a video the other day about a rescue shelter in Iran and they saved a dog that was going to be put down by some villagers because it was sick. I bet if you talked to those villagers they would say the same thing: it's spreading disease so it should die. Poor dog was treated at the rescue shelter and survived and the fear was completely pointless.
ckj1103 honestly Iv never had a rat in my kitchen but I did see a mouse in the garden which my 18 year old cat brought me as a gift (alive) to say thank you and please don’t leave me with grandad for a week. lol i don’t have a issue with rodents of any sort. Also any living thing can spread diseases.

@Voracious Reader It isn't a good idea to use poison to get rid of rats. The rats will die, but notice there were kittens in the area. If the rat died, and the cats were hungry, they could see the rat as a food source, as that is natural. The poisoned rat would then be consumed and the cats would be doomed to death from poison.
@Voracious Reader It's not the rat's fault, it's mostly humans fault. During the biggest outbreaks cats, their natural ennemies, where hunted down which disrupted the natural order of things. There were too many rats. Also it's a common myth because it actually can pass through the air.

We live out in the country and we had a few mice who were adorable, but instead of killing them, we decided on catching them in cruelty free traps. Then my boyfriend took one by one to work every day. He released them out into the same huge field so they hopefully were reunited with the rest of their family. Not a mouse left in our house. 😂 some of our friends laughed at us-but we just couldn’t kill them, they were just looking for a good place to call “home”. Just not ours I’m afraid 🤣 clean up was worth it. ♥️👍🏻 your comment made my day-you’re so right 😉 thank you! 🙏🏻 we only caught about 12. We’ll do it again if we see any more 😬
I have two rats named Vadeem and Vergil and they are so cute and love to explore! ❤️They are very funny and we put stuff for them in their cage (boxes, newspaper, maybe socks, etc) and they adjust it aka like move newspaper in the boxes 😆 ! We love them so much are they a a big part of our lives 💕

I was thinking the same thing, my fat boy Smudge had exactly the same markings and colors. But as time went buy his light fur darkened, still a fat boy though. He now likes to sleep under the covers on my bed
And you wonder how in the world TWO Siamese kittens end up out in the wild like that with no sign of a mother nearby.
@@nakyer could have been dumped by an angry ex, their mom could have been killed, kittens might have gotten out and couldn't find a way home, any number of ways for little kits to get lost. Good news they are going to have a good life now, with any luck.

Pamela Raney Pls google pros/cons of toilet training kittens. The Humane Society of the United States does not recommend it for a number of reasons that make a lot of sense.

@@pamelaraney4654 It's actually a natural thing for them to toilet train, and takes no effort whatsoever. There are some very good videos on here by a cat/kitten expert, and she shows you how to do it. It is also the best thing for them, because it keeps their environment clean, which is what is natural and best for them. It would be a good idea to get that side of the story, as well.

@@animallover5626 agreed. Rodenticide toxicity is incredibly horrific. Also, taking it off the street reduces the risk of secondary rodenticide toxicity (for example, imagine if those kittens had fed on the rat - they would have suffered the same prolonged painful death).
I saved 2 rats in the street. They are living creatures just like us

I know, it's really sad. It has to be done, of course, or they'd never come out, but to be eating some yummy tuna and then BAM.....sometimes I wonder if they no longer trust tuna.

true most people hate rats on how they are "ugly" but your compassion for animals are bigger than anybody elses to save a rat and treat it. your a true animal lover and i respect that!

The problem with rescuing animals is that you want to take them all home.
Well they was home atleast for a while in just more place than 1 for few months :D then they send each to a loving new home.
