it was the choice of the carpenter who created the crosses, i believe he made them for free and everything.
there were people who thought it was a good thing, that it was healing for the community to let go of the hate completely and just grieve. some wrote things like “i forgive you” on their crosses, but there were many who wrote things like “how could we ever forgive you?” on there as well. there were also parents who actually destroyed the crosses, if i remember correctly multiple times.
i personally think their crosses should’ve been put further away, i mean if people wanted to grieve those two they would’ve put the work in to walk 5 extra minutes or something. and the victims’ families wouldn’t have had to deal with that sight.

High school was awkward, lonely, infuriating, and depressing for all of us at one point; that's no reason or excuse to go on a murder spree. When I was in 7th grade someone started a horrible rumor about me and my friend that I thought I'd never be able to move past or live down; I had several crushes that ended in heartbreak; I had more humiliating experiences than I could count. But I got through it and Dylan and Eric would have too. Like you said, if they'd just stuck it out until they graduated they probably would never have seen the majority of those people again. Prayers for the victims and their families .

the thing about Columbine that i think gets brushed over a lot is how many times parents, authorities, the school, friends could’ve intervened. survivors have said this before, Brooks Brown for example.
both Eric and Dylan had deep issues, they both had low self-esteem, though Eric hid that fact more than Dylan did. They both wanted to die, especially Dylan. Eric was diagnosed posthumously as a psychopath, but there’s multiple instances where it’s pretty clear that Eric had empathy and even remorse to some degree. there were multiple people who liked him, though he had less friends than Dylan did, but still.
i honestly think people didn’t pay attention to these guys enough. there were so many signs. i mean Eric’s dad once found one of his pipebombs in their house and all Eric got as punishment was having to go blow it up in the middle of nowhere with him. the feeling i kinda get from this whole case is “well, we didn’t really question our problematic norms and politics and education system but the real monsters were still these two mentally ill teenagers!”.
seems a little counterproductive to me. i’m not saying they aren’t to blame, i think they should’ve faced not only actual consequences for their pre-shooting actions but also should’ve received actual help. Eric had a therapist, but if you look the guy up his ratings are really really bad. guns were all over place, they didn’t really struggle to get them.
remember that just because you had it hard in highschool and dealt with it eventually without hurting anyone, it’s not like saying that will prevent any more shootings. the people who have that need to blow others and themselves up aren’t gonna stop because you told them to “get over themselves”.
it’s pretty clear that these guys had the potential to be normal, maybe even good people. it’s really fucking tragic that this useless culture of ignorance cost the lives of 12 innocent kids, a brave teacher and 2 messed up guys. not to mention all the people injured and/or forever traumatised.

I remember where I was when I first heard about the Columbine shooting. It was the 10th grade and I was drawing a scene from the first Matrix film out of a magazine I just purchased. a teacher happen to walk past my desk and thought I was glorifying the shooters. After trying to explain to her at nauseam that this was just a scene from an upcoming film, she wouldn't hear any of it. There’s a CZcamsr I think CVA archives. He talks a lot about the this massacre. What he mentions in many of his videos is that these kids were not even bullied like the media portrayed them. They ran with their own group. Even Dylan went to his prom just to shoot up columbine days later. How many schools across America has hazing? Almost all of them. He goes in to talk about how these kids were actually depressed and manic. Dylan was suffering with major depression and Eric was a hot head psychopath. They hated everyone and everything. People already knew about them. Eric was in trouble with the law. He hated law enforcement. How come their basement video was never shown to the world only to families of those involved. A lot of those who watched their last video even said how much hatred they had for everyone. 4:30 yeah, honestly this sentiment is very true. My highschool years were hell. Without going into long detail, I was bullied and hated by students and some staff. I was also bullied relentlessly at home. I was starved, I was excluded and talked about like I was a walking plague (I was a lesbian and this was the very early 00s). I also ended up having a huge mental breakdown, due to all of this as well as childhood trauma, and I basically spent a whole year blacking out constantly. I didn't even graduate. In 11th grade I was pulled from school and only went to after school sessions with the math teacher, and when that also failed because I was a freaking zombie, I then dropped out entirely. A few years later when I woke back up I got my GED. It's now been nearly 20 years and while it was awful, it's far in the past and I don't give it all much thought at all. It's just a part of my life that's over and done. In the moment it can certainly feel like forever, or like it'll never get better, but it will. All these two guys had to do was keep going one more year, or even just drop out like I did. Then they could be where I am, looking back and feeling a sense of peace that those days are over. But instead they stole their own futures, the futures of their victims and the victims' families.

So dangerous with antideppressants and adhd medications given to kids and young adults. Brain altering them before theyr brains are «grown up». Insted of just having other kinds of schools. More exercise. Better foods. Learning a skill. Wonder after 2020 how many more kids on pharmaceutical drugs. So sad. How many kids got problems during the insanity the last years. They will probably trigger this school shootings so they can homeschool a lot of kids. Just think how mutch they saved to give people online school.

Trauma bond mindcontrol IMO. It is so crazy that if I would tell you more. You probably would not have belived me. So this is not today as it looks like. It is beeing triggered. IMO.

How many more bombs, shootings and knife stabbings. Everyone must probably for our own safety scan out face and iris at every corner. Problem - reaction - solution. I do not say all school shootings is problem reaction solution BUT - IMO they want to close schools in the new token economy. The cybernetic direct democraty. What was digitalized during the lockdowns and then had other solutions. Will have those solutions in the future. And problems like schoolshootings - better scare parents to home school theyr kids.

I can honestly say as beautiful as Colorado is there are a lot of weird, deranged, crazy folks in that state. I don’t know if it’s the high altitude or the fact the state is so isolated in the middle of the country. A lot of crimes and massacres have been committed in CO. Many crimes have till this day have not been solved. The place is so damn remote with open mountains where criminals commit crimes and get away with it. Then I hit puberty, bulked up a bit and the bullying stopped. How I handled bullying was, while getting into a few fistfights, I retreated into the fantasy world of comic book superheroes, even drew some of my own, and then got into moviemaking. My movies proved a great way to make friends, because other kids wanted to be IN my movies. Thank God this activity proved to be a constructive outlet for my rage and passion! She ended up being in Mr. D’Angellis’ final graduating class :: a promise he made to the children/families who had just entered the school district was that he’d stay as principal until they kindergartners on April 20, 1999 graduated. It was an honor to sit in on Mr. D’s final commencement. We are Columbine! 🫶🏼

You might get paid the same (the military pay scale is universal) but don't pretend like you don't have target demographics and don't get some kind of benefit for hitting numbers in certain areas. Recruiters had target demographics in the 90s when I was in the Army, and they damn sure have them now with how woke the military has become. I'd bet my disability check that you are "encouraged" to favor some demographics over others, or be more lenient on qualifications for "oppressed" groups. Don't bullshit a bullshitter, champ. I know what goes on in the military. I spent 10 years learning the politics. All bonuses aren't financial, and military recruiting is far from a pure meritocracy.

I was just a few years out of high school when the McDonalds shooting happened. It was 1984 near San Diego. The guy killed close to 20 and injured as many, before a sniper took him out. The postal shooting was a couple of years later. That guy killed 14 and injured 6 before taking his own life. Those things were not heard of back then and yes, that’s where the term “going postal” originated. That was the year I got married. He could have saved me a lot of trouble. Not seriously. But those two got the ball rolling. The one in 79 was a kid who was obviously mental but she shot several, killing 2, because she hated Mondays.

That might have been another girl or not happened too. I'm not sure on some of the details but tried to give a general perspective. Sorry if some details are a bit off. Just don't have enough time. @Ramblingroads For some clarification on that confusing story which yes has been so sensationalized; that was Val Schnurr. She was shot and screamed "Oh my God! Help me!" (Heard on the 911 video) and then she was asked "Do you believe in God?" She said "Yes" then she was asked "Why?" "Because my family does" then she crawled back under the table as if she was dying. They didn't shoot her after asking, she was already shot.
Craig Scott misheard who it was said to and thought it was victim Cassie Bernall. Even though the only witness to Cassie's death (she was right under the table with her and watched) said this did not happen; Cassie's family stuck with it as it gave them comfort. And of course the media sensationalized it as if she were a martyr. Craig later apologized to Val and has now accepted this did not happen the way he thought.
Rachel Scott that came from Richard Castaldo. He did wake up from a coma and initially say Rachel was taunted for her religion; however when he had more time to process what happened he later recanted. The Scott family story of what happened to her (saying Eric pulled her by the hair, asked her, and shot her point blank in the head) per the autopsy report is not possible. She was shot quickly in several areas from a distance. She probably didn't event know what happened. But they stuck to it as it gave them some comfort, which I won't judge them on as I can't imagine the pain they've had.

I worked in a school for 30 years as the head secretary. I took that job mostly so I’d have summers off and Christmas breaks with my kids. I never guessed it would be a stressful job - until Laurie Dann opened fire in a school down the block from the school I was working at (Illinois).
After that - all doors were locked. We didn’t have a buzzer system to let people in - or cameras - or security personnel. I - was pretty much - it. If someone knocked on the door and wanted to be let in - I went to the door - with a knife - and spoke to them through the glass. I never let anyone in I didn’t personally know - but - even that wasn’t a fool proof way to protect the kids in that building.
I left that school and started working at a different school in a different neighborhood. We had locked doors there, and a buzzer system to let people in. But - how do you know if the person at the door - even if it’s a parent you recognize - is actually safe and not in the midst of a psychotic break? You don’t.
Those kids were important to me. Keeping that building safe - was my first priority - but - I was limited. All there was between the outside and the inside - was a stupid door bell. I was at my desk when I heard the news reports on the radio that was on my desk that a school shooting at Columbine was in progresss. Columbine was in Colorado - my school was in Illinois - but - it affected me - and all of us - as if it had happened across the street.
Back then - we all thought Columbine would be the ‘last’ school shooting. We all thought there would be more and better safety procedures established in all schools and we thought more would be done to recognize students that had the potential to cause harm. That didn’t happen. Anywhere. I'm retired now, but as I write this - it's August - and the new school year for thousands of schools across the nation is beginning. How long will it be - before new reports - of new school shootings - start making their way into the news?
It’s 2024 as I write this - and since Columbine - there have been 413 more school shootings. Something is terribly wrong with this picture. RIP all victims of school shootings - and my deepest condolences to all those survivors and families still suffering.

Only thing that I noticed is that you said they counted down from three and committed suicide at the same time. Which is not correct- forensics found pieces of Eric’s brain matter underneath of a pipe bomb that Dylan had placed assumedly right before he had ended his life. I remember growing up and hearing the stories of it and even up to this day at 29, I can’t help to imagine how horrible the event was every time I pass by. It’s no longer a McDonald’s, it’s a satellite campus for the local Community College. There’s a memorial there tho. Back when it happened, my parents were young and about to marry but they crossed the border a lot and said that McDonald’s was frequented by a lot of people just trying to find a better life through hard work. My mom even said she couldn’t imagine how life would have been if she decided to go in and eat there, something she seldomly did.

I remember at the very beginning of June someone who only identified themselves as a senior in our school, threatened to kill everyone on the last day of school. It even made the announcements where our principal assured us we where safe. There was a senior who always wore trenchcoats and had a scary temper. He threatened to kill a kid in the past. He was frequently builled as well. He was suspected and everyone just kept a closer eye on him. Rumors where everywhere. Turns out the person who made the threat was not him at all but another senior that spread that fake message as a sick senior "prank". I heard he lost his diploma and was kicked permanently out of of school as a result. The next year we got off to a "great start" as on day 1 we hear that a bomb was put under the school in a pipe. Turns out that was fake too. Thats when it occurred to me school will never be "normal" as it had been for the past 12 years for me. The rest of that year went by without incident

I am 41 now. I was a junior when this happened at a small high school in Long Island, NY. We were horrified and there as a noticeable police presence around the school the day after. My school, like Columbine, wasn't known for many violent incidents. A group of three students, however, thought they could be funny by walking into the school wearing black trench coats. Few of us even noticed or thought it was out of the ordinary. Their first period teacher, however, immediately saw it and told them to take the coats off. One of them responded "No I want to keep it on. Don't worry about it. No big deal." The teacher, clearly annoyed, casually went out to the hallway monitor and told her to alert the vice principal (who was also the dean of students, and as an ex-Marine, he took no BS from anyone). The three students were suspended for 30 days and were given 30 more days of detention, as well as a stern talking-to by both the dean and police officers. They never did anything stupid again, and one of them went on to be an accomplished lawyer. It's a shame that I don't have a lot of good memories from the mid to late 90's unless I'm watching a show about that decade. All I remember without that is the bad stuff.

There have been around 15,000 mass shootings, over 100 school shootings, and over TWO MILLION non-mass shootings in America since Columbine. The 2023 Dadeville mass shooting had 36 gunshot victims (Columbine had 34), and almost all the victims were teens under 18, just like Columbine. Yet people are still obsessed with a shooting from 1999, and almost nobody even heard about Dadeville, or any of the 180 mass shootings so far this year, or the 604 mass shootings in 2023, or the 695 mass shootings in 2022, or the 698 mass shootings in 2021, or the 615 mass shootings in 2020, and so on.
So the real question is why we cherry-pick a handful of shootings to talk about and remember forever and completely ignore 99.99% of them. Why we get hundreds of videos like this obsessing over a shooting from 1999 with no mention of the TWELVE mass shootings so far in May 2024 (it's May 5th today). This guy is still talking about the Charles Whitman shooting in 1966. See what I mean?
So what's the pattern here? Why do some shootings matter and others don't? Why do some victims matter and others don't? Why does Columbine matter but Dadeville doesn't? I know the pattern. Does anyone else know the pattern? This guy knows the pattern, but he'll never admit it.

I hear ya. Its all pretty weird but most of it is about interest in the story itself. I'm doing a video soon about JonBenet Ramsey. I never realized it was such an interesting story in general because of the long random ransom note, but the fact she was a beauty queen, rich, young etc is a story. I think Columbine was big because it was one of the first and it wasn't one person but 2 which is weird. One of them could have stopped the other. They were from decent background etc. How many other shootings were 2 people at a school? Most are solo right? People are burned out and have fatigue from these stories so there is no novelty as much as before. Its become normalized. Sadly no one honestly cares a ton about random victims they have never met, they care about the story and the mysteries behind it. What pattern are you thinking?

I was in elementary school down the road. We were on the soccer field at recess when the teachers ran out and make us go inside. They told us “there was a fire at Columbine.” Then our parents came to get us and we didn’t have school for at least a week. Sad that we continue to see mass murder like this in our schools in the years since Columbine.

The killer, Brenda Ann Spencer, 16 years old, shot into the school yard just across the street from her home and killed 2 and wounded 9. Asked why she did, she replied, " I don't like Mondays." Bob Geldoff then wrote the hit song "i don't like Mondays" based on the shooting.

Eric and Dylan did not "kill the majority of the people in the library." At least 30 escaped when they left to go back down to the cafeteria. They killed 10 in the library and in total there may have been at least 50 in the library when the shooting began. They did injure quite a few too. At any rate, these two were only 3 weeks away from graduation. All they had to do was stick it out three more weeks and they chose this. Just horrific.

You're talking about high school in the intro like it doesn't matter, but it definitely does.
Now as a disclaimer, I'm not justifying anyone doing anything violent. Anyone who commits an atrocity like this is a monster.
I remember a lot of things from elementary school through high school. I was bullied a lot, and not just by the kids. It's easy to say that "it doesn't matter" after you grow up, but it absolutely does. When your formative years were spent being beat up, having your stuff stolen, being made fun of every day by kids and teachers, and not having a place to go where you felt safe, it affects you in a very deep and profound way. Even at 33, I still struggle a lot with feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness because that's what I felt every day as a child, and I grew up feeling that it was normal to feel that way all the time. I still have difficulty having conversations with people and almost never approach anyone I don't know for help. It's not something that can always be brushed off so easily.
As an adult you can look back at things like that and assume they were insignificant, but when you're that kid, it's not. This is why it's so important for parents to teach their kids to not be terrible to other kids. Sometimes, the kid you're picking on has more going on than you think, and if they're really bad off they can turn into a real monster. Most of them don't, but that doesn't mean that the ones who didn't aren't still dealing with the aftereffects of everything they went through. You can't rely on the school to protect those kids, because they've proven time and again that they are incapable of doing so. In my case, they not only didn't help, but they also made it worse with every action they took.
Parents, please for the love of God raise your kids to be good people. Pay attention to them. Be involved. Don't let this shit continue to happen.
