This is yet another Banks/Rutherford masterpiece and this performance does them proud. Full of existential angst and spine tingling chord structure. What a fantastic voice Ray has. He suited the sound of Genesis perfectly and in my opinion this album sits proudly alongside the rest of their back catalogue.
I've been listening to this song through my mother's two-month agony and still after her death I can't get away from it. Thank you Ray Wilson for such a powerful depiction of human loneliness in front of death.
About being one of Genesis' best songs - agree. However, I completely disagree about this version - I think it's the most "sterile" version of this song I've heard, missing most, if not all the usual superb angst of both Ray and the band.

Knowing Genesis... after all the struggle...leaving Peter Gabriel behind, after Phill Collins got tired, when all the old friends of Genesis got sad because of all the time that went by. A new name a new spirit occurred into the band. Ray Wilson achieved it, after all these decades .Genesis still was alive. Considering how the band changed within the last decades, somebody like Ray apears likes a freshcell therapie to an old but incomparable "Old School" Band. Time goes by. Time increases... Till this window of our being here closes.... But who are we... All those memories... Ray is worthy to carry on his own tale... and the recollection of a great old band.

Ray to jeden z najbardziej niedocenionych wokalistów w historii muzyki. Powinien śpiewać na stadionach dla dziesiątek tysięcy ludzi, no ale czasy takie, że prawdziwa muzyka jest w odwrocie, a miliony/miliardy odsłon dla takiego chłamu, że uszy bolą.
Nie każdy musi śpiewać na stadionach. Ray świetnie się sprawdza w bardziej niszowym wydaniu i ma swoją kochającą go publiczność. Koncert w Trojce mam na mp3, był rzeczywiście magiczny a niedawno byłam na koncercie w realu. Było również fantastycznie🙂

The web and CZcams are full of boring "best guitarist of all time"-rankings, which always consist of the same old names, like Page, Gilmour, Blackmore, Van Halen ... Nothing against these guys, but all those rankings ignore, that in the last 3 or 4 decades much more brilliant guitarists have entered the scene too. I discover new ones with fascinating and individual kind of playing every year! Ali Ferguson is one them. Others are Marcus Deml or Piotr Grudzinski. And discover Rowan Burn from Midas Fall ! Her (yes, she's a Girl !) Tremolo-Play is very special (-> Movie Screens).
@@tomschmidt4355 i was lucky to see markus deml at soundhouse lübeck, doing a demo show for tc electronics and their famous g force 19 inch rack format machine, back then he played a yamaha pacifica as well es a stereo couple of yamaha dg100 amps.... that was the most amazing piece of prog rock live perfomance i ve ever heard perform a single guitarist as markus deml is a truly outstandingly complete guitarist. btw......later on i bought this tc electronics g force myself and ever since i am sort of hooked to their gear.....

Very underrated, and if you don’t present it as Genesis it’s even more impressive. Rays voice is so emotive, and it’s such a departure for Tony and Mike.
@@LeftyPem they just shouldn’t have marketed it as Genesis, that was the main problem. There are good songs on the album but even then songs such as Not About Us sound like Travis and Alien Afternoon has the weird almost funky intro. Those are my two faves on there and really the only two songs I ever come back to but it’s still a mile away from even anything they did with Gabriel

as a lifelong fan of Genesis, I honestly like the album he was on. Ray's got a great voice and definitely one suited to prog-. I do wish Mike and Tony would have done at least another one or two albums with Ray. They really could have ventured into the more "rock" and darker side.
Ali is a better kead guitarist than Rutherford. The perfection is amazing. You can tell the he used to be in a cover band playing Pink Floyd songs as the similarities to David Gilmour on holding notes is clear. Brilliant . Would love to hear his Pink Floyd covers.
I've been a fan of "Genesis" since the early 80s (moreover, I was fond of the early Genesis of Peter Gabriel's times (by the way, I'm still his fan and concert visitor). And here's what I want to say - the album "Calling All Stations" was created in the best traditions early Genesis (especially 1985's "Mama") is complex multi-layered music with many facets, shades and meaning Ray's voice blends very harmoniously with such velvety music. I've read how difficult it was for Ray to fit in with the likes of Rutherford and the Banks and that the album wasn't commercially successful... But I think it's one of the group's most successful albums (on a par with "Mama"), where Genesis returned to back to its origins, turning its back on the commercialism and pop curtsies that accompanied Mr. Collins's days in the second half of the 80s and 90s... Thank you Ray for the opportunity to feel the momentum of the early Genesis again! With love from Russia....

I really liked the Calling All Stations album, I’m glad Ray is doing tracks from it as Genesis (Tony & Mike, Phil never wanted anything to do with it) have disowned it.

It seems that when Ray joined the group the songs on the album were already finished. Ray Ray Wilson's voice was chosen to give a darker tone to the Genesis band and to finish the group's new musical project. Made in the studio only by Mike R. and Toni B. In the end, the difference in years and having already an independent career meant that there was no continuity and the ideas of forming a new group did not develop beyond about fifteen songs. For me, Ray Wilson will be part of Genesis and Calling All Stations is one of the best Genesis music albums. There was another album with several songs that didn't seem to get a lot of support from the public. "The comparisons are hateful". But for me it contained very good songs. Although the support of the public was not enough. (It seems that the guitarist is doing his thing. He enters at the wrong time and Ray follows him somewhat suspiciously).

An ethereal deep, pure and distinct voice. Ray lives every note. His eyes gaze at every low and high note enunciated from his inner spirit. Ray was, is and will always be a unique sound that will permeate through all superficial noise that we call music today.
As a fan of Genesis from 1971', Ray your inclusion in Genesis rekindled my interest in the band after mostly not caring since Duke. Wish you'd got a better shake and a shot at that 2nd album as I think you guys were onto something. Thanks always and loved the Carpet Crawlers with Steve Hackett too.
Perhaps this track would’ve caught on more if Genesis played it with the energy this band has! I just watched Genesis in 98 playing it and was like, “Man, the studio version is so cool, but this just doesn’t have the same feel.” But I knew I’d heard Ray sing it solo really well on his live records. A back-to-back comparison reveals that this group has a lot more feeling!
Genesis got stuck to their own style and they were doing something new then.Ray is liberated and can give these songs a different dimension and obviously this is a more rich arrangement orchestra wise

I really liked the Calling All Stations album, I’m glad Ray is doing tracks from it as Genesis (Tony & Mike, Phil never wanted anything to do with it) have disowned it.
I didn’t like the album very much at all and even then I think the live versions sound great.
Still listening as always, like so many of us. Fantastic performance.

It seems that when Ray joined the group the songs on the album were already finished. Ray Ray Wilson's voice was chosen to give a darker tone to the Genesis band and to finish the group's new musical project. Made in the studio only by Mike R. and Toni B. In the end, the difference in years and having already an independent career meant that there was no continuity and the ideas of forming a new group did not develop beyond about fifteen songs. For me, Ray Wilson will be part of Genesis and Calling All Stations is one of the best Genesis music albums. There was another album with several songs that didn't seem to get a lot of support from the public. "The comparisons are hateful". But for me it contained very good songs. Although the support of the public was not enough.
(It seems that the guitarist is doing his thing. He enters at the wrong time and Ray follows him somewhat suspiciously).

Very close to perfection. WOW. 6.50 minutes just adds to the magic. They don't write songs like this anymore!

An ethereal deep, pure and distinct voice. Ray lives every note. His eyes gaze at every low and high note enunciated from his inner spirit. Ray was, is and will always be a unique sound that will permeate through all superficial noise that we call music today.
Ray Wilson is Genesis...if they ever decide to reunite with Ray as the master.

As a fan of Genesis from 1971', Ray your inclusion in Genesis rekindled my interest in the band after mostly not caring since Duke. Wish you'd got a better shake and a shot at that 2nd album as I think you guys were onto something. Thanks always and loved the Carpet Crawlers with Steve Hackett too.

Perhaps this track would’ve caught on more if Genesis played it with the energy this band has! I just watched Genesis in 98 playing it and was like, “Man, the studio version is so cool, but this just doesn’t have the same feel.” But I knew I’d heard Ray sing it solo really well on his live records. A back-to-back comparison reveals that this group has a lot more feeling!
Genesis got stuck to their own style and they were doing something new then.Ray is liberated and can give these songs a different dimension and obviously this is a more rich arrangement orchestra wise
They missed Phil Collins drive and stage presence, Banks and Rutherford had charisma bypasses when they were young. 😄
Great voice. Genesis with Ray Wilson were unique. They should continue with him.

Ze mną było podobnie. Pierwszy koncert półtora roku temu. W lipcu byłam na drugim, a w lutym jadę na kolejny. Gdyby koncerty były bliżej to byłabym na każdym.
