    Thanks for the clear instructions for disassembling. I found a total of three switches associated with the door. I was able to tweak the door alignment and switch assembly screw so door light now turnes off and unit now starts.

    Yes I did replace that switch because of the EXACT problem. What ended up happening is it blew AGAIN. Which means there is another issue or I bought a less superior switch. The replacement lasted one day. I'm going to look at the specs on the replacement I used to see if it is still that switch.
    “Thank You!” for sharing this.

    Please be aware that some of the door switches are normally open and some normally closed, if you do order them. I ended up shimming with paper next to each switch. I then put a small amount of glue there so they can't wiggle. Once they were all solidly in place it worked fine. I had to temporarily take out the plastic part the switches were held, to glue them in. A volt meter and a GF helps to test opening and closing the door. I also used nail polish to build back up where the middle switch wore down some.

    Unfortunately you are right, Consumer electronics and consumer appliance companies that build things by the thousands cut corners and use inferior parts when building their devices as they only care that it makes it past the 1 year warranty. If I was an engineer, I would be pissed if a company downgraded what I spec'd out to save a few cents in production costs! Anyways, the DongMan switches they use in GE microwaves are a good example of an inferior product. Dongman is NOT a well known or reputable brand of switches, therefore why would you use the same thing when replacing it? 3rd party sellers on Amazon are gonna sell you the same crap so you can keep spending more money and purchasing the same junk when it goes bad again! Omron and Honeywell make these switches in the same physical dimensions and ratings, but are a much more reputable brand and have a higher MTBF. About $3 or less for these switches from a reputable electronics supplier and I get the fuses locally for $0.20 each!

      @kevinh9262 Před rokem

      @@arizonaheatwave4080 Test it with a multimeter if you have one. If the switch is a normally open one, it should show no continuity on the ohms setting. If it is normally closed, it should show close to 0.0 ohms. If it is a normally open swith, the readings should be opposite. Regardless, you should get on open reading (usually an OL indication on the multimeter display) in one position and a 0.0 ohm reading n the otehr position (pressed vs depressed, or depressed vs pressed).

      Check the switches, make sure the click when you push down on the orange button. I had 1 bad 1 on the bottom and had the same thing, countdown but nothing else, that bottom switch lets it know the door is closed all the way and it wont fire up the magnatron if it thinks the door isn't properly shut.

    • @alcohtraz

      There is two things that "cook" food. The capacitor and the megatron. If I had to guess, I'd say the megatron. I had mine go out in this very microwave, and replaced it, and it's been fine since.
