This video was only made possible because of the tremendous effort of a lot of people, but I’d like to say a special thank you to my editor, Whit. If you like what you see here, you really have him to thank.
This video has been by far the most difficult one I’ve ever worked on - I nearly gave up multiple times. It’s also the video I’m the most proud of, and I think it’s my best work to date. I really hope you all enjoy it and can see the passion we put into it.
I’m so proud of you!

You'll always be the champ in our hearts, Wolfe!

Ashton denying the handshake to go in for a bro hug is one of those great moments of sportsmanship.
True!!!
I thought it was weird. He should've shaken hands and then hugged him
Anyone got timestamp?
@@Arcsut22:50
@@awennerlmao it’s not weird if you’re friends. A handshake + hug is literally what my father and I do when we see each other.
The facts that only two tournaments ever have been won using a perish trap team, that they have both been by you, and that they have both been AGAINST Ashton (almost a decade removed from each other I might add) is a truly unbelievable statistic
Poor Ashton Lol
Ashton: Two nickels .meme
That is legend status. To be able to take someone down as good as Ashton with a team like that!
Probably the same statistic as Meaghan Rattle being eliminated from the quarter-finals of Worlds by James Baek TWICE
@@fangjiunnewe3634 "If I had a nickel for every time I lost to Wolfey using a Perish Trap team, I would have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot, but its weird it happened twice."
Have no idea half the things he’s talking about but it’s really interesting to see him strategize. And sometimes even purposely putting himself at a disadvantage.
I won't touch competitive pokemon with a ten foot pole but watch wolfes vids for the strategy and story telling. He's just that good, must be the would champ dif.
@@trowabarton101 Fr dude, previously my teambuilding and pvp knnowledge was terrible, i literally thought Mega T-tar was the best pseudo lol
I adore how Spidops continually shows up to try and save the day. Even in one frame when Wolfe’s group is trying to think of a viable team on enoshima island lmao
Happy to see this finally be released! I had a blast helping out with some of the battle edits and I hope you guys like it!

And sometimes you feel like the only way to win is to get lucky. So you must maximize the probability of your success.
I want to know who that opponent was. Sounds like they were really mature about it and I wish I could attribute that credit to them by name.
@@alestrius1:44:24 His name is LeeGengar.
@blazechaos212 that was the person who reenacted that fight with Wolfe, the real person who fought against him was a Japanese player.
@@johnsonbaroncaveler6634 Yes and he was the person he fought against. He commented on this video, thanking Wolfe for the compliment and hoping to battle against him someday. And you're talking about a different player.
These kinds of videos scratch a specific itch for a certain style of story: one where the prep for the tournament is as gripping as the tournament itself. These are always fun to watch as a result! And of course the approach to the game, acknowledging others’ skill and admitting to your own good luck, are very much appreciated.
I don’t even play Pokémon, but this was such a blast to watch. You’re an inspiration Wolfe!
Wolfey’s absolute hatred for Incinaroar is so funny every time
It isn't hate, it is trauma

Literally one year of Wolfey's competition life is an entire 3-season shonen anime series.
I was going to say that I thought this would be awesome to see as an anime! It has all the beats you expect, including a training session on an island getaway!
He's living a more compelling arc in a normal season/year than the official anime has ever put out or tried building towards lmfao
Literally?
I know you probably won’t see this Wolfey, but thank you for this video. The quality and storytelling is top notch.
I have a dream to be one of the best ultra runners in the world. I’ve been running since I was 11 and am now 30. I’ve finally started running ultra races. I literally put blood, sweat, and tears into every training block preparing for my races. This past year was rough - one race the weather shifted and I was destroyed by humidity I hadn’t trained in, another I had an injury flare up and had to walk 30 miles, my last race I got Covid the two weeks before and was out for over a month.
In the moment, it’s always tough. My spirit starts to crack, but as you said, we don’t know what we can accomplish until we try. Sometimes we succeed but most of the time we fail…and that’s okay. It’s about learning, growing, connecting with like-minded people.
As “silly” as people see Pokémon, your mission and dream are inspiring and ultimately teach you lessons, which you share with us. To me, you are a “GREAT”. Thank you for your stories and wisdom you share 🙏💚
Deep bro❤
Ultra runners are some of the baddest mfs on the planet. Coming from a former Marine. Ultra runners are a different animal
I hope you fulfill your dream, I wish I had something that I could dedicate myself to, always be proud of what you achieved!
This was an incredibly engaging format. I didn't expect to watch this two-hour long upload but you made it so easy. Thanks for getting me through an otherwise mundane work day. Subscribed.
30:06 I didn't know iron mugulus was allowed to persue it's malicious plans in vgc, this is insane!
That's what happens when Old Money bankrolls the mean mug's schemes. He has to draw attention away from his financial fraud somehow.
Stay frosty out there

14:40 Wow that's incredible video making. The moment where you're like "This is literally the worst thing that could happen", that was SOO GOOD!
The speach at the end really hit home thank you for that and for all the lessons shared throughout the video you're awesome Wolfey excited for what next years holds!
big fan of whenever wolfey's like "only one player has ever accomplished this before" and then doesn't name the player and you 100000% know it was his ass
also incredible video as always !! i'm not a competitive player but learning about VGC strats is beyond fascinating. thanks for all you do!
The time and care you put into telling this story RIGHT really shows. And Wolfey, this was definitely a story worth telling. Can’t wait to keep following your career.
Thank you!
Thats nice

This video epitomises everything that we all love about Pokémon and is a reason why it’s so important to me and everyone here, it’s not just a game, it encapsulates all emotions and emulates life itself in a beautiful and yet painful way. Thank you Wolfey and love to all here !
Yes. As a chess player that went twice to the world youth chess tournament, I can relate to the amazement, anxiety, and not knowing what will happen. I also was extremely unprepared this year so I didn't do great, but the friends I made and the lessons I learned will stay with me forever. I respect Wolfey a lot because I know the struggle of frantically searching for a new weapon right before the tournament, and a lot of other things he showed here.
12:10 that was genius. “I need… a hero!” And then “Battle Against a True Hero” from Undertale starts playing.
Perfection.
I've clearly been out of the competitive game too long, seeing Focus Energy being a viable strategy blew my mind.
This video was well worth the wait, good luck in 2024 mate!!
I think it's been a niche on specific pokemon for a while, it's just a matter of whether or not the pokemon themselves are good enough to get use.
@turtle_7777 the problem is its needed on a bulky Pokémon with decent hi base power moves AND a good enough speed stat to not get statused by support Pokémon. only Hydreigon has all of these and a decent offense stat.
however it only saw use because the ability to terastilize making fluttermane not able to OHKO
@@DeadAimKillah It only saw use because Flutter Mane wasn't allowed yet in Reg A
Since Reg B, Hydreigon isn't seen anywhere
The team building section spoke to me on a personal level. Realizing what you're doing isn't going to work, then spending nearly all the time you have left stressing over different ideas. Eventually creating something that you can be proud of, only to take a step back and realize that after all the stress and anxiety, the strategy that fulfils your needs, is nearly identical to what you started with. As a programming student, this is painfully relatable.
i literally spent 4hrs today programming and i ended up with basically the same program that i first tried
@@jaleelhull941 same. It's a unique feeling.
You’re a skilled story teller and a great motivator! Even if I don’t play competitive Pokémon, I’ve been a Pokémon fan for 2 decades and you and your team are inspiring. The combo of humble humility + respect for your own abilities is very endearing. Keep up the great work!
i super loved this video. walking through each step of the journey, from the individual tournaments to your preparation to how you felt going into them was super cool. i also loved learning about the meta and how it has shifted throughout the season. awesome stuff

Fantastic content. Never imagined I would watch a 2 hour doc on your 2023 journey but it was worth it. I've never been more satisfied from watching something I was unable to properly comprehend. Subbed.
As someone who has never heard of you and is only vaguely aware of the competitive pokemon scene i just want to say the quality of this content is absolutely insane. Found myself fully entertained for the whole two hours, the amount of editing is nuts, and the goldingo bop was killer 😂
Timestamp of Gholdengo theme? Been trying to find it since it was so good but I can't lol
Man that rivalry story between you and Shiliang Tang is quite something.
He beat you at the end of Victory Road right before the Elite Four.
Thank you for your awesome videos. They inspire a lot of people to pick up competitive Pokemon and are entertaining at the same time.
As someone who only uses my favorite Pokemon I love your unique and creative teams. Truly the world champ difference.
I wish you good luck for your next tournaments and everyone a happy new year ♥

Great Message!! I pray that everyone watches through to the end and hears the meaningful message you delivered. Failing sucks, but I think that giving up may be the only thing that could really make someone a failure.
The production quality on this is actually inspiring, I genuinely couldn’t look away for even a second
Wolfey entering Worlds with some fish is truly the world champ difference
This is one of the best produced videos I have watched in such a long amount of time. I found myself at the edge of my seat even if I knew the outcomes of a lot of the tournaments. The story told throughout was incredibly well-paced and scripted and I never felt there was a dull moment. I also feel that I learned a lot of what I missed of VGC throughout the year and I thoroughly enjoyed that. The ending was very motivational, heartfelt and wholesome. Rooting for you to become the world champ come Worlds 2024
Thank you for all you have done growing the community through your skills, both as a competitor and growing your skills as a CZcamsr!
Wolfe is such a great storyteller. I wasn't too familiar with competitive for many years, but after I found his channel, watching his tournament stories and novel strategies unfold has been really engaging!
Iron Mugulis has officially entered the wolfyverse! This is insane

Wonderful storytelling! Love the narration throughout. I know next to nothing about competitive pokemon, but I do know I always love watching your videos! :D
Sorry to hear about the loss, but an amazing amount of effort put in to the attempt and hopefully a memorable experience with lots of friends around throughout!
My dude, I watched all your tournament breakdowns and yet your style of narration stil got me in suspense and my heart pounding, just incredible.
Yeah same I totally agree!
Beautiful video. I started my competitive journey this year only because of the guidance of your videos. I’ve watched every single video and stream you’ve posted since the release of Scarlet and Violet. It’s been great going through this journey with you and I can’t wait to see how you perform this year
wow. this video was so well crafted. It's easy to tell you are so passionate about this craft. Congrats on 1 mil!
I love this video! Incredible job with everything. The editing, the script, the emotion! Keep it up Wolfey!
I see why this video took so long. the effort put into this video is insane incredible editing throughout the video
Wolfe, don't feel bad about this performance. You perform best in what should have happened - a non-national dex format where you can find a unique and innovative strategy that you're comfortable with and know inside and out. The Pokémon Company switching the format on you right before Worlds is cruel and unfair. You did the best you could under the overwhelmingly stacked and stressful conditions and we're all super proud of you for putting an inhumane amount of effort and passion into this. ❤
Is it dumb for TPC to do the format switching like that? Yes. Does Wolfe underperforming under these conditions indicate a weakness of his? Also probably yes. Does that mean Wolfe is a bad player? Absolutely not.
but the format switch also affected everyone?
@@BuxxoTrue, but considering the type of teams Wolfe likes to build and has specialty in it comes off as a real slap to the face.
@@DaFlyingSeal tbh i think it is a good change, it is a way to get the best pokemon player out and not just the best damage calculator and best wiki reader to worlds, we already have the school system to do that, and yes if it affect everyone then it is fair and it prevent the chalk teams like wolfey mentioned
@@BuxxoThank you, I like Wolfey but I think this is protagonist bias. Everyone faced the same problem. He still should be proud, but by no means was he cheated
What an amazing video, just finished it after breaking up between 3 different days. Spectacular! Give it your all next year Wolfey we believe in you!!
This was so well put together and so interesting!!! Entertaining + love the science / methodology to your teambuilding.
Only Wolfey can make me sit and watch for 2 hours, its a real talent

I watched the whole thing and I was like "I can't believe 2 hrs went by" I nearly clapped at the end too, amazing journey retelling.
This really does sound like a storyline within Pokémon media
Wolfey, your content was been an absolute blast to watch this year, happy new years
I haven't played Pokemon in years, but your videos are fun to watch so thank you for that. Even someone who has no clue how deep the game is and what current Pokemons are available still can follow the events happening.
Thanks for sharing the journey, Wolfe! What an incredible ride, and I can't wait to see you try again this year. :) Whether you fail or succeed, you have my support.
The last line is so epic and inspiring. I'm so proud of being your fan Wolfey. Best of luck for 2024.
ahh i’m so excited it’s finally here! i had always seen your videos float around in my recommended but i didn’t start watching until january when my dad was stuck in the er and i needed something to pass those 12 long, stressful hours. thank you for that. i used to avoid competitive because it seemed too technical and confusing to know where to start but you do a great job explaining your process in a way that makes the knowledge approachable, and you’re also just a great storyteller in general. i’m still never gonna be a competitive player but i can say your videos have brought me great comfort, entertainment, and a better appreciation and conscious effort for battling
hope you have an incredible 2024 filled with much success and world champ difference ❤
Amazing video! What an experience/story to listen too. Mad props to all the editors too! As one myself, 2 hours of high quality editing has to be commended, amazing work all! ❤

Looking forward to your 2024 journey! Good luck!
The thumbnail makes it seem like im on a interview and wolfy is about to congratulate me for landing the job
Wolfey is Rika
I had to go back and look at the thumbnail after you said that. And your rite lol…. I hate interviews. Im fact when someone that is interviewing me asks “ what’s something about you that you think is a weakness?” I always say being interviewed haha
Wolfe is one of the biggest influences that led me not only to competitive Pokémon but also to starting video editing for CZcams and for fun. Thanks for all this amazing content. I hope to see even more as this new year begins. As saddening as it is that you didn’t win worlds, this journey looks like a lot of fun and definitely a journey I’d love to go through as well
This is a truly remarkable video. The storytelling, the humor, the editing, and the suspense throughout. All top-tier 👏
Your videos have been absolutely phenomenal this year. There aren’t many other creators I would see a 1-2 hour video and get super excited to watch the whole thing of.
I'm starting to think that VGC is driving Wolfey a bit crazy....

That end speech was absolutely beautiful. I won't lie when I say I cried a bit watching that ending.
The human experience is all about trial and failure and learning to pick yourself back up. Knowing the odds are so stacked against you in anything you do is a part of what fuels people to be passionate and to continue to innovate and push forward. It's exciting and it's beautiful.
The difficulty I had trying to watch this video in a small timeframe was about as hard as catching a fish in a frozen lake with a bucket full of gummy worms. Worth it tho
The heart and the grit behing this one... Thank you Wolfe, from somebody having this dream that you've already felt coming true but keep chasing nevertheless (I'll have my debut in Sweden in May but seriously compete in 2024/25).
Long Live Beastcoast!
You really ARE the very best 💛
Your commitment to this game is so inspiring. Amazing to see how you met so many good friends on this journey too. Loved every minute of it. It was like a documentary!
Losing to Shiliang Tang who you essentially became 2023 rivals with is very poetic. A storyline loss, hopefully you two meet up for many more thrilling games in future tourneys
Yes, your Gholdengo intro is exactly why I love your longer breakdown videos! They are always worth watching every second as you throw in tons of memes and Easter eggs for long time players. Still watching and I can say, the wait for this video was 100% worth it!
Absolutely masterpiece of video. Keep up with the great work Wolfey!
Enjoyed every second of this, great story telling. Some things here apply also in other things. Very well done
I'm just one person but i gotta say i personally enjoy these types of tournament rundowns where you focus on the bigger picture much more than the ones that turn into play by play commentary of what moves each player/pokemon used on every turn. They just become too repetitive and end up sounding like you're just reading moves and names off of a list. Videos like this however, still have the occassional breakdown of crucial battles but without getting too bogged down by details, leaving more room for the overarcing story of your experience and journey but also of the thought process behind the team and how/why it was build, which also allows you to cap off every tournament with a post mortem on the team you used and how it performed vs your expectations, what it did well and not so well and lastly what you learned from it. Which makes for a much more engaging viewing and listening experience in my own personal opinion at least. So if you can do more tournament breakdowns like this, i'd love to watch them.
Literally been waiting for this video for so long THANK YOU WOLFEY!! Next 2 hours I now have plans
Crazy crazy good video - especially with that legendary, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon outro theme at the end ❤
We love you dude!!! Excited to see your journey next year! ❤
Your type of content combining immense knowledge experience and connections with the community you are making content about alongside well edited starts to a video to get people to understand exactly what's going on followed by long gameplay segments with good commentary for a long term engaging video is just amazing.
your story telling was so good in this video, unironically felt like a movie about competitive, one of if not your best video yet wolfie, cant wait for 2024!
Well narrated. You are a world champ of a person and CZcamsr. Keep chasing your dreams king.
You're team is getting better and better at making these types of videos. Do some research on how movies play out where the audience could or does know the ending but it's still a surprise anyway. That's the perfect structure for these
The way you've narrated how this whole tournament went down was absolutely beautiful. Loved every second of it. Thanks Wolfey for this video.
This incredible video shows the hard work it takes to become to world champion. Many people aren't even aware of competitive pokemon, which saddens me after seeing the true hard work needed to become the world champion. This video was super informative and easy to follow. I watched this whole video straight and just couldn't stop! The ending of this video was super emotional, it was the perfect ending for a perfect video!
I love the sentiment in the outro. Falling short hurts *because* the goal is truly worth something. The number of times I've heard 'if it causes you pain, why do you keep doing it?' with regards to my own endeavours makes me sad sometimes, that others never find something that lights a fire in them that makes the disappointments worth it. Thank you for articulating this so well, best of luck next year, and I hope some day I can find something that calls to me again, like you have had with Pokémon all those years.
Havnt watched pokemon content in ages but you always seem to get me back into it 😂, congrats man!
Great video as always Wolf! Can’t wait for worlds next year
